in our healthcast today a collaboration involving Florida researchers is expanding efforts to develop a blood test for Alzheimer's disease Mount Si neurologist Dr Ronan darara is part of the team that found beta ameloid biomarkers in blood samples long before they led to the formation of Alzheimer's causing plaque in the brain we looked at the relationship between the levels of the amalo in the blood to uh the pet scan which shows the amalo plaques in the brain uh and certainly what we found was
it was 90% correct in terms of detecting amalo in the in the uh pet scan um the blood test Dr DW says an accurate blood test could be used as a very simple screening method for the general population allowing doctors to find and then treat Alzheimer's at an earlier stage and a large study out of Sweden is suggesting that treating ADHD with medication can help reduce the overall mortality risk for patients who have it researchers tracked nearly 150,000 people diagnosed with ADHD and they found t
hat 19% decrease in the 2-year mortality rate for those who got treatment experts say the report emphasizes the importance of timely ADHD diagnosis and another new studies out there published today challenging the scale of the US maternal Health crisis it suggests that Reliance on pregnancy checkboxes on death certificates may have led to an overestimation of how many moms are actually dying because the checkbox does not indicate whether the pregnancy had anything to do with the woman's death so
as a result maternal death rates in the US may actually be a lot lower and more stable than the recent Federal data had been suggesting
