Foreigner's First Chinese New Year in Philippines - This was CRAZY! Binondo Chinatown, Manila

I spent the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, in the oldest Chinatown in the world. Binondo is the name of the Chinatown in Manila, Philippines and was established in 1594, so it's 430 years old. The city of Manila's government predicted that there would be 1 million visitors to the small neighborhood of Binondo during this new year's weekend. Dave On Arrival

wow there's a lion dancer in the restaurant, okay welcome to Chinese New Year in  the oldest Chinatown in the world, it's turning like 430 years old. This is Binondo in Manila Philippines we are on Ongpin street right now it's one  of the main thoroughfares for everything Chinese here in Binondo Let's check it out Eng Bee Tin, one of the famous restaurant  Delis, home of the best hopia and tikoy one of the most popular places here in Chinese New  Year as you can see. the line is super super long
hot dog if you come here to eat at a sit down  restaurant during Chinese New Year, be prepared to wait for literal hours Lucky Money you know, they're expecting 1 million  people to show up to the festivities just here in this neighborhood  over the Chinese New Year weekend 1 million, that's what the city said so we decided to come early on the first day to try to avoid the crowds  a little bit but they're still here probably going to be a lot more crowded tomorrow 10:30 in the morning how are
we feeling? super daming tao, crowded we haven't eaten anything yet just the kwek kwek You had kwek kwek, come on and then there's something akin to  a Street Market here on this corner what is this? yes just so you know where I am oh that's actually clever you see this, only princess yeah I get it all right. very good this is Juday, Abby's sister, by the way so there are lion dancers,  there are fire breathers, there's a whole bunch of loud noises that's  going to go on for hours and for days C
hinese New Year in Chinatown, it's  a lot to process, a lot to take in don't think I'll be here that long there's supposed to be  fireworks at midnight, I think I'm definitely not staying around for that I can't deal with this amount  of people for that long Abby Paano sabihin crowded? madaming tao what? madaming tao our filipino word of the day tao means  human or people, madaming means many I don't think there's a word for crowded there's no direct translation?  well there should be well, comm
ent if you know it I'm not sure comment if you know the tagalog for  crowded, because uh grabe. too much came down one of these side streets  here to find a restaurant that we really want to check out I don't see it yet oh it's over there it's over there back to the crowds. is that the line? wah, there's a lion dancer in the restaurant okay oh snap awesome. what was the wait  time to sit down, like 5 hours? if we dine in wow good thing we got take out thank you kuya sorry sorry sorry we got take
out gave you a bunny latte art. why not a dragon  though? that would be more appropriate why bunny? because the year of the bunny it's not year of the bunny so we ducked into this uh beautiful coffee shop  because yeah we didn't want to wait 5 hours so we took takeway and they were kind enough  to let us bring in some siomai from Wai Ying so shout out to Apologue cafe. very aesthetic and wow the coffee is really good,  it's an Americano I recommend that how's your latte? bunny latte Sweet. Sara
p the legendary Wai Ying fast  food siomai. look at it glisten that's that's really good it tastes like siomai that  you would get in Hong Kong legit quality right there, that's delicious.  like the shrimp is really strong flavor This is pork and shrimp right? yes big thumbs up from me. that's best  siomai I've had in the Philippines well that wasn't hard to finish off where to you next? Lumpia want to see if we can find some fresh lumpia why am I talking with my mouth full? it was so good you g
ot more? yeah Frozen you got frozen stuff anything else? and hakaw and siomai and then mami and the beef mami. awesome big radishes, I like it Abby really wants to try this  place for their bicho bicho I'm worried about your mami by mami you mean soup, right, not my mother? no it's not spilling is it? I hope not so you're supposed to order at the tea counter  if you want to get the bicho bicho Chinese donut long line but it's actually shorter  than most of the ones around here we're waiting in l
ine for some  fresh Lumpia in this Alleyway that's one block from Ongpin super crowded Street yeah this Alleyway smells really  good, it's full of snack shops and uh this noodle house right here,  yeah that that smells really good but uh can't get everything so we're  going to see about the Lumpia here How's the Taiwan sausage? sweet. tastes like ham yeah that's good so you got the bicho bicho, is that powdered milk? Sarap. yeah? You don't like this. I don't know I haven't tried milky it's inter
esting. I'm glad it's a little bit sweet otherwise I think I wouldn't like it but uh it's worth a try anyway okay so we walked a couple blocks away trying  to get away from the crowd we booked a grab we're uh taking the rest away now  because uh yeah, too crowded for us we've got siopao we've got  Frozen siomai we've got Lumpia other Pasalubang so yeah time to get out and uh get some Chinese  New Year dinner at home, what do you say? okay just kidding we're taking a tricycle instead we have a a
straggling passenger all right since we couldn't try  most of the food at Binondo while we were there we brought them home for Merienda it's a big Merienda here but today is all about  eating and celebrating Chinese food, I guess fresh Lumia has a very sweet  sauce it's almost syrupy and I tell you what, I added the chili sauce  that they gave us to this and it is amazing like this beef wonton soup um maybe the winner  of the day, it came from Wai Ying as well, so yeah that place is tops for me,
and uh  I'm going to go back on a less busy day week days yeah week days maybe cuz both things we've eaten from there the  siomai and the wonton soup are just awesome mama mama oooooh Hello finishing up the day with  dinner at Mama Len's house what's cooking? Sisig, Dave oh I love your sisig we put already sautee the  garlic, the onion, and the chili wow, so many chili yeah so many chili I love it yeah and this one I put the mayonnaise and this one is a pesto pesto chicken. yummo. For the pasta
And this one is a fried chicken, chicken lollipop ah chicken lollipop. love it smells so good. Bango Mabango this is hopia, a uh little red  bean cake that's super popular for Chinese New Year from Eng Bee Tin,  which we passed in Chinatown earlier What's that look like? ooh if you know what red bean tastes,  like you know what this tastes like yeah it's good. little bit dry, I  kind of want a glass of milk now Oh boy Steamed siomai and Hakaw chicken, sisig, and pasta pesto pesto pasta but wher
e's the rice? rice dao? not a complete meal without  rice. you know where we are bone apple tea Wow, what a way to ring in the year of the dragon, being one of literally a million  people in Manila's Chinatown Kaloka I hope you enjoyed the video let me know in the  comments where you celebrated Chinese New Year be sure you're subscribed for more content  coming from Manila and all over the Philippines take care

I’m one of your subs Hi! Dave and I truly enjoy your videos. I’m from Cebu now living in the USA. We just had our vacation in Pinas last week and spent one day driving around Manila area. I used to love Manila every time I go there but this time we had a bad experience with traffic enforcers not just one but two extorting money from us as we were not familiar of Manila streets and it was bad traffic and very chaotic, dysfunctional not very well organized. I hope that you will continue to have a great time over there and best of luck always.

is the name of your channel meant to be a funny similarity to Dead On Arrival?

@toddak47

Have you had any problems with immigration at Manila airport ? I have seen tons of videos with them stealing and putting a bullet in your baggage . I fly to Davao and I make my flights so I don't have to go though Manila airport .
