project aimed at making bus trips more efficient and the Central Valley has legs again Fox FES Mike Allen joins us live now from one of the stops on this route expected to get a boost Mike yeah John I'm at Maryland and University right now this is about the midpoint of this huge project that would make Maryland Parkway a lot different from Russell all the way up to about the downtown area Carson to be exact now the city of North Las Vegas is going to vote on whether or not to increase funding fo
r this project this after a couple years of it being on the back burner a multi-million dollar project would completely redesigned Maryland Parkway and more from the South Strip Transit terminal on gespi and sunset all the way up to the Las Vegas Medical District this project would add 50 covered bus stops new shared bus and bike Lanes widened sidewalks and upgraded pedestrian Crossings most of that work would happen on Maryland between Russell and Carson and would include the six Lanes of Maryl
and being reduced to four to make room for those bus and bike Lanes which RTC told us back in November would not create traffic issues Maryland parkway's traffic volumes don't necessarily warrant uh six travel lanes for for through movements you just don't have that kind of demand but Clark County lists Maryland Parkway as a principal arterial carrying between 30 to 35,000 cars each day there are also about 9,000 bus riders on Maryland each day according to the RTC those six Lanes would still ex
ist if this project gets the green light so when you look at Maryland Parkway uh right now it's constructed with six Lanes uh six travel lanes and when we get done there's still going to be six Lanes there but they'd specifically be for buses and bikes with an exception for right turns the city of North Las Vegas will decide Wednesday whether to increase funding for this project and is expected to be the first municipality to sign on to the latest version of the agreement now because this is an
interlocal agreement that means all of the municipalities within Clark County including the county itself need to sign on in order for it to move forward reporting live tonight from Maryland and University Mike Allen Fox 5 news local Las Vegas

Im 30 today and I remember reading about this for the first time 10 years ago ....that should tell you a lot

@shereesheree7735

NO NO NO NO NO MORE traffic 'improvement' projects should begin until the projects already started are completed!! My word!! I understand improvements are necessary but this latest proposal is BS!! The improvement work currently happening on the I-95 / 515 has brought an enormous amount of traffic on Boulder Highway. If this particular project began in a year, imagine the traffic on Boulder Highway to increase more because of the south/north directions. Good Lord, you can't even use I-15 as a substitute alternative because work is being done there. My word!! Our local electorate sucks now!! Sorry ...not sorry!

@joconnell8145

NO traffic on MP??? Pull your empty head out dude!!!!

@vegasmarc7252

The cheap and less-efficient way instead of the admittedly more expensive, but way more efficient light rail.
