starts right [Music] now we got a lot of rain overnight this is great news that was a shot from over9 at the KAC garden and after I planted those seedlings they really needed that rain Sarah Spivey is going to give us a look at that overnight rain ooh look at that lightning even what we can expect throughout the day and early this week and taking a live look outside now a little bit of a different story 61° at 800 a.m. beautiful start to our St Patrick's Day what we can expect throughout the wee
k in just a bit from Sarah Spivey good morning look at this rain it's beautiful thank you to our producer MJ for shooting this overnight when you know you may have woken up to that pitter patter I did see some lightning I didn't have any lightning at my house Sarah um and it wasn't really like those thunderstorms that keep you up it was just kind of a good soaking yeah the the storms were more bark than bite right there was no severe weather last night just a few flashes of lightning and periods
of heavy rain as we showed you it looks nice outside in San Antonio right now there is one lone storm moving into Kerr County approaching kville here it'll be on your doorstep kville in just the next couple of minutes possibly some pea-sized hail right there but nothing severe just a few flashes of lightning this lone shower and storm is a great example of the kind of weather we could see today for the most part it'll be quiet but every now and then there might be one or two passing showers or
downpours or storms but outside right now in San Antonio it is beautiful as we start the day with some extra rain in our rain gaes 61 degrees with winds from the Northwest at about 10 milph so the main show was last night we're not going to see more widespread rain like that uh today instead what we'll be dealing with is only spotty showers and storms and then looking ahead to next week it'll be cooler through Wednesday coming up I'm going to detail those neighborhood rainfall totals show you ho
w much rain fell in and around the city of San Antonio Sarah Sarah thank you now to our top story this morning a big update to a story we've been following for a month now so the owner of the business Angelic monuments Elena Moreno she was arrested this weekend on theft charges after a dozen families paid for headstones but they never got them our Courtney Freedman reports those families are overwhelmed with emotions their pain has been immeasurable it hurts to go and visit him and he has no sto
ne it makes me feel like I have lay her down by not having a headstone in at the plot these grieving women spoke to me in two separate stories within the last month they're just two of 12 families who paid Angelic monuments owner Elena Moreno thousands for their loved ones headstones which they never received as our stories came out more and more families reported their losses to San Antonio police who found enough evidence to arrest Moreno Saturday morning she claimed her innocence in front of
our cameras why' you do it why' you steal from these people I did not the arrest was just for one of those families who lost Isaiah Velasquez in a tragic car accident 2 years ago they paid over $8,500 for his headstone that falls under a charge of theft $2,500 to $30,000 a state jail felony this is for one family um we have multiple victims already that have come out and said that they're victims of this company San Antonio police public information officer Ricardo Guzman confirms that if the to
tal eventually exceeds $30,000 the charges could be upgraded it's frustrating for those families absolutely and especially not being able to receive uh that closure that they're waiting for this headstone is frustrating heartbreaking um but we're bringing Justice to families Courtney fredman kat2 news thank you Courtney and as news of the arrest came out Kat was flooded with text and emails with these families reactions these are quotes the messages they sent look on your screen it says quote th
is gave me a little relief during a difficult time another one we watched online it's so emotional and lastly I hate that this had to be the outcome but it's not fair the pain she caused as for any future charges alleging theft we will keep you updated as this story continues to develop in your morning headlines officials in Egypt say ceasefire talks between is Israel and Hamas will begin again today officials add after turning down the latest proposal Hamas gave mediators a new proposal for a t

ost anticipated game right now is this Tuesday when the Dallas Mavs make their way to the Frost Bank Center for a wimy versus Luca Showdown that starts at 700 p.m. today is St Patrick's Day happy St Patrick's Day the holiday honor St Patrick the patron saint of Ireland and is marked by parades good luck charms and green themed items and a report from data rapper says bear county is home to almost a 100,000 Irish residents making San Antonio the 16th most Irish in the country did not know that an
d yesterday the city of San Antonio got the party started early as you can see there they dyed the river green with an eco-friendly dive so let's take a look this is live okay so they're going to be dying again the river probably around 11: this morning so it looks greenish I think this is why they died again Sarah yeah I was I was laughing because it doesn't look all that much more green than it usually is out there but they're going to die it again I think they have to Dy it again because they
use it an ecofriendly D so it doesn't last as long which is good because you want you know the native habitat not to be harmed but there's several St Patrick's Day events happening along the Riverwalk today including a dog parade so cute with a costume contest that's starting at 2 p.m. at laita the historic Arts Village there's also so many pubs and restaurants celebrating you know they dye the beer grein one of those being mad dogs which sponsored the dying of the river grein with that 25 gall
ons of that eco-friendly green D so it looks calm out there right now Sarah yeah and by the way you know the weather should cooperate just a few showers here and there so pay attention to that so very cool okay since we have a lot of Irish residents here in San Antonio let's put our St Patrick's Day knowledge to the test okay here we go St Patrick's Day trivia okay let's see the first ever St Patrick's Day Parade in 1762 didn't take place in Ireland so so where was it Germany the US Canada or De
nmark ooh I'm going to go with uh Denmark I'm going to go with Germany I don't know why let's see what's the answer it's the US okay okay well that makes sense here's the thing okay 1762 though that's it wasn't the us yet I know but it was people were still here I know but like got tricked by the question same it's okay it's okay to be wrong sometimes Sarah okay all right let's look at our oh it say a oh it would happened 14 days before the Declaration of Independence was signed okay very cool a
ll right let's take a look at this next question in 2020 the St Patrick's Day Parade was cancelled in NYC for the first time in how many years because of Co okay so it's not World War II it's not World War I I'm going to go with 175 years a okay I'm going to go with B 200 let's see here oh both wrong man we're just not doing great here this is this is tough MJ prod good job with this so New York City St Patrick's Day Parade the largest such celebration oh in the world I thought maybe Chicago had
a Bigg that was that was interesting okay so experts say St Patrick was actually not Irish O Okay Sarah I think you know this maybe I don't is is he polish was he polish Italian Greek or British I'm going to say either polish or Greek but I think polish I'm going to go with Pol too okay let's oh my gosh we are for three both of us I hope you guys back at home did better okay so St Patrick's was actually born in Roman Britain growing up he was first brought to Ireland through Irish Pirates wow c
aptured to take care of sheep that's when he converted thousands of Irish people to Catholicism becoming known as a pain painon saint of Ireland I actually went to St Patrick's Elementary School Corpus chrisy and we were the Shamrocks Shamrock maybe you should have really known that last we not really yeah we tried we did hey happy St Patrick's Day I'm sorry I didn't wear green I have little bits of Darker Green in here I had to be careful because of the green screen okay your eyes are green the
re you go permanently celebrating St Patrick's Day thank you for reminding me that all right it's 68 excuse me it's 810 and 61° let's take a look outside with live cam a beautiful start to the day here there's downtown San Antonio things looking a little more green out there cuz we got some good rain last night will we see more rain today it's possible just not as much as last night I'll have those details coming [Music] up the path of a total solar eclipse will pass through Texas Monday April 8
th but here's the thing only half of San Antonio will be in the path of totality and you definitely want to be in the path of totality right now on kat.com we made this really cool interactive map so that you can see if you're in the path of totality and how long totality will last just zoom in to a location you're interested in or you can type in a specific address using the magnifying glass I've also made County bycount lists showing when totality will start and how long totality will last for
many locations there's even fun Eclipse View which show what the eclipse will look like all across South Central Texas depending on the time and location so make sure to check it out Kat 12 is your Eclipse Authority station now the only thing to do is hope for Clear Skies okay as we're getting closer to next month's total solar eclipse you can scan this QR code on your screen it will take you to our Eclipse Authority page where we have all of the information you need to know ahead of the big da
y on April 8th Sarah earlier I was talking about I was looking at that map I live on the city's northeast side there's a parking lot in Target inside 410 and 10 right there I'm going to go you can shop at Target then walk out to the parking lot for that one minute or you can go further there's a water Burger on 1604 in Bandera but shout out to the Peterson family they live on the northwest side they just invited me to watch it from their home in the back that was so nice thank you guys well whil
e you're enjoying your day off and watching the Eclipse we are going to be really uh covering the eclipse we are hoping for Clear Skies even if we don't have clear skies even if it's cloudy you want to be in the path of totality cuz it gets completely dark outside it's really cool and a once in a-lifetime thing so we're excited about it when when did NASA estimate the last time this happened it was like oh the last time an eclipse moved through San Antonio the city of San Antonio was in 1397 bef
ore the city of San Antonio was even a thing so again pretty rare all right let's go ahead and take a look out with the authority radar we had some great rain last night we're going to talk about rainfall totals here in just a sec but first I want to show you that area is out toward Del Rio getting some of these light rain showers this morning right near Lake Amistad and then just north of Eagle Pass in uh Maverick County some light rain some Cloudy Skies out west of San Antonio even though we'r
e seeing some sun in San Antonio and there is one lone thunderstorm in her County at the moment you can see that a few flashes of lightning as the storm is weakening as it moves closer and closer to I 10 but kville I'm sure you're hearing some of that Thunder seeing some of that lightning uh kville was one of the areas that kind of missed out on the really healthy rainfall earlier this uh in the overnight hours and so it's good that they're at least going to get a little bit of rain here from th
at uh storm here's how much rain fell last night around San Antonio really impressive rainfall totals especially on the south side of Bear County we'll go ahead and sample some of these between right between South sand high school and Mission San Juan about 2 and2 in of rainfall there nearer to Lidle as well you can see there was a swath from about uh Almo Ranch area all the way to the airport that only saw about half an inch of rain but still that is something and then up across parts of the Hi
ll Country like in Leon Springs Bernie area about an inch uh of rainfall so very good rainfall anywhere you see the greens here that's at least an inch of rain the yellows is 2 in of rain so south of Pleasanton lot of rain now we are not going to be seeing that widespread of rain today in fact as you look outside you can see the sunshine in San Antonio what we'll be seeing instead is a lot like what they're dealing with up in kville the isolated lone showers and storms do not cancel your plans O
utdoors enoy enjoy your time Outdoors just have the umbrella ready in case and the case out Weather Authority app 57 in Bernie it's 62 in Canyon Lake 62 in Hondo and 64 in Pleasanton here's that case at 12h hour forecast we'll call it about 20 to 30% chance for an an additional shower or storm throughout the day today around noon it'll be near 70° in the afternoon we'll get into the low 70s we'll have Northeast winds today Breezy at times 10 to 15 mph checking on high in neighborhoods around Sou
th Central Texas 71 in Del Rio 73 in ceso Springs 73 in Gonzalez 71 in Canyon Lake 72 in San Antonio 75 in beille 66 up in kville so a little cooler in the higher elevations in the Hill Country all right a check of the weather setup there is that complex of storms that moved through heavier rain now falling in Louisiana as we take a wider view some showers and some snow across parts of the Great Lakes the reason why we still still have a chance for isolated rain today it's because we have this l
ow pressure system continuing to send us energy but the next thing that's going to move through is actually a cold front that cold front is in the panhandle of Texas right now and temperatures behind this front are noticeably colder it's 40 in dalh hard now we're not going to be getting down into the 20s or the 30s but we'll see Mornings in the 40s and afternoons over the next couple of days in the 60s it's going to be 65 tomorrow 60 on Tuesday and 65 on Wednesday it's a little bit on the cooler
side in the next couple of days before temperatures rebound back into the weekend we'll be in the 70s once again something I want to focus on in the next half hour Sarah is looking at how much rain fell over the areas that are experiencing the most extreme drought so I'll do a little bit of radar analysis there in just a bit Yeah earlier you were saying that those shower was over Lakey and that area of the hill crun I mean if you go to any of those Rivers like I went this summer they're non-exi
stent and it made me really really sad they really need the rain extreme droughted those areas thank you all right it's 821 and 61° coming up a San Antonio teen using her sacrifices to help Inspire others why her story just made her the recipient of a national award that's coming up after the break but first let's take a look at these Lotto numbers pick 3 637 Fireball 7 Daily 4 66 87 Fireball 3 Cash 5 1 5 11 20 23 in Texas Lotto 3 13 21 37 40 49 Powerball there was not a winner the jackpot is ov

unday of St Patrick's Day and Sarah uh yesterday they died the San Antonio River near their Museum Reach green yes and they have to do it again because one I think it's an eco-friendly die but also I have a theory that all the rain that we got last night may have washed away that green dye I don't know how to test that Theory science with good thing you do experiments like science with Sarah yeah all right we'll we'll try that one out for sure okay but we did have a lot of rain yesterday Sarah l
ast night or early morning in my case we had some good rain half inch to 2 Ines of rain fell around San Antonio now all we're left with are these isolated showers and storms this is the kind of rain that will be possible today only in pockets and we're seeing some heavier rain falling right now over Comfort Bandera Tarpley area these have some flashes of lightning uh earlier perhaps there was some small hail non-damaging hail out near Lost Maples but now things are looking okay again this kind o
f isolated rain is what is going to be possible today last night was the main show today we'll have spotty rain and then in the week ahead it's going to be a little bit cooler especially through Wednesdays so coming up in the forecast I'm going to show you a cool time lapse of the storms over San Antonio and we're also going to take a look at where the most beneficial rain fell coming up in just a bit Sarah Sarah thank you so take a look at your screen right now cuz San Antonio police are lookin

so sweet oh my goodness we both have adopted pets and it's been awesome it has been absolutely a good day to get out and walk I had the most beautiful walk yesterday Sarah around from 6 to 7 right before the sun went down it was nice and cool the sun you know was still kind of up but it we didn't have any rain then but I could see all the wild flowers starting to bloom it is it is awesome cuz we had the best of both worlds right we didn't have a ton of rain during the day yesterday but we got a
lot of it last night while we were sleeping so you can enjoy your Sunday there will be times of spotty showers though Sarah here's a look at the time lapse from last night this is at midnight and then all of a sudden right around 13:00 1 1:30 13:00 1:30 in the morning we had some areas of lightning some showers some heavy rain at times that continued until about 3:00 and then take a look at the sunrise this morning absolutely beautiful as we see a break in the clouds there gorgeous couldn't ask
for better timing of the rain unfortunately though this is the effect that it has had on the pollen count molds are high past 6,000 and even though the rain washed some of the oak out of the air it is still high okay here's a look at the authority radar right now we've got areas of light rain around the Del Rio area Eagle Pass you're going to have these light passing showers throughout the day but a little bit closer to San Antonio we're looking at generally clear skies at the moment let's go a
head and take a look out near San Antonio again not much going on on the radar at the moment but look out toward kville and Bandera you can see a few isolated thunderstorms here these are not severe just a few flashes of lightning perhaps some very small pea-sized hail for with any storms that develop today Bernie this is headed to your neighborhood it'll be Crossing I 10 here very shortly some additional rain out near comfort as well and what I want to do too is I want to zoom out because I thi
nk out uh near South of San Antonio we've also got some additional areas of rain yes right near catula you can see some additional rain here heading Northeast so these kinds of very isolated Thunders showers is what is possible today ring about 20 to 30% coverage but last night everyone got some good rain and around San Antonio here's a look at the rainfall accumul ations around San Antonio even the light blue that you see here was still at least half an inch of rainfall so everybody around the
city of San Antonio got at least half an inch of rainfall but some neighborhoods got upwards of 2 Ines of rainfall we're talking about areas uh from uh Highland Park down to paloo College these neighborhoods got 2 Ines of rainfall two plus inches of rainfall downtown area got about an inch anywhere you see this green that's at least an inch of rain so a lot of San Antonio got at least an inch of rain new Bron is right by the uh radar and so often times you can't actually see exactly how much rai
n fell there but it was at least half an inch of rain for new Bron Falls as well Floresville an inch of rain Divine an inch of rain Bernie an inch of rain I want to focus on this area across the Hill Country here remember how I said that these areas in green equal about an inch of rainfall take a look at this compared to the drought monitor a lot of the heavier rain fell right where we needed it to along the areas that are experiencing the most extreme drought so again just to reiterate a few pa
ssing showers and storms today about 20 to 30% coverage will be near 70° by noon 72 for the high temperature do not cancel your plans because of those rain chances keep your plans just bring the umbrella with you and then tonight temperatures will fall into the 60s it's going to stay in the 60s though in the Hill Country where it's a little bit cooler in the weather setup we have isolated rain today because of this low pressure system over Baja California and a front is going to be moving throug
h tomorrow morning that means cooler weather for the first part of this week highs only in the mid 60s and low 60s on Tuesday and that big low pressure system that's out to the west of us that I just showed you that's finally going to be moving through Texas Wednesday and Thursday and that's why there there's a small chance for rain then as well awesome thank you Sarah M it's 851 and 61° as we head to break we want to let you know that diabetes alert day is almost a week away on the 26th univers
