Same girl, same
Hi guys, your fellow romcom enjoyer Dapinkeyâs here. Season 2 of theÂ
dangers in my heart has been airing for a month now and itâs been dominating this season everyÂ
single fockin week, staying at number 1 on the popularity poll and beating other big names suchÂ
as classroom of the elites, mashle or freaking solo leveling. Iâm just so proud. Now, only oneÂ
question remains. Why is it so popular? Is it that good of a show? Spoiler alert, yes. Then howÂ
so, you might ask? Well, let
âs find out right now. For those of you who havenât watched the show,Â
hereâs the premise. Sociopathic incel, prettiest girl in the whole school. Or if you look at itÂ
from a different angle, tall girl with booba, short guy whoâs conveniently at the same heightÂ
as her booba. So right of the bat, many people, including myself, would be rightfully skepticalÂ
about the show. Is this just some degenerate, fantasy, fanfic show? Then, we were hit withÂ
the opening scene. Aight, what is bro yapping ab
out. Haiz, what am I watching again? Oh ok,Â
itâs just a normal romcom. How I knew that? The background music bro. Listen to that again. Yep,Â
itâs just another romcom. The opening is just a little expectation subversion type stuff.Â
So ye, this is yet just an ordinary romcom, like any other romcoms. Or is it?
II. Romance: Ever since I was a little boy, I have alwaysÂ
been fascinated by romance. The first anime Iâve ever watched which has more or less defineÂ
me as a person was in fact a classic
romcom. Seeing them hanging out and then caring for oneÂ
another and eventually getting to the climax that is the kissing, it really makes my heartÂ
race and I would be engulfed in joy. Still, I wouldnât be able to understand what itâs like toÂ
actually be in love, and even until now I have yet to be in any relationships. However, as I justÂ
turned 18 and got to university, Iâve already been given a taste of what romance is like. ItÂ
was a one-sided love, but just in 3 months I actually got to
experience almost every aspectÂ
of it. From feeling like youâve got no enemies, starting to see birds and butterflies flyingÂ
around, to feeling like a piece of garbage when sheâs hanging out with other boys, or she hasnâtÂ
texted you for a few days. Joy, peace, excitement, jealousy, anger, depression,⊠Iâve gone throughÂ
it all in those 3 months and I was finally able to truly understand and appreciate romance.Â
Fortunately, I watched Bokuyaba after having known what love is. And oh my god, was
it great.
Ichikawa was an introverted dude whoâs got a great awareness of his surrounding despite only beingÂ
a middle-schooler. Heâs got some weird and quirky side to him, you know, thinking of what hisÂ
friendâs corpse looks like and such but donât we all have a little freaky side to ourselves.Â
Augh. That was my freaky side. Ok wtf. Anyway, because I donât want to spoil his backstoryÂ
to explain him as a character too much, letâs just say that heâs a very pessimistic andÂ
self-deprecating pe
rson. As he takes interest in a classmate, Yamada, who is apparently the prettiestÂ
girl in school and a model, he finds his boring and lonely world slowly coming to an end. HisÂ
used to be safe space which is the library, was also then occupied by Yamada and thatâs how theyÂ
met, and thatâs sort of where everything started. What I like about the romance genre is theÂ
fact that despite how clichĂ© it could be, there are still so many different stories thatÂ
could be told from it. This time, itâs
about a guy who created and trapped himself in his ownÂ
cage, but is now slowly taking actions to free himself because of love. Itâs not that this isÂ
such a creative story. I mean a shy person, or maybe even an isolated person lives their horribleÂ
life, and then randomly, the most popular, most perfect one comes to them and swoop them away. IÂ
like how itâs not like that in this series. Yes, it was thanks to Yamada that Ichikawa decided toÂ
step out of his shell, but he was the one to take the
step. Realistically you have to be the oneÂ
to take action if you want to achieve something, not depend on others for it and thatâs exactlyÂ
what was shown here. By the end of the first episode, you see Yamada sort of talking and isÂ
being flirted on by this playboy guy, asking for her number and stuff. As Ichikawa was behind themÂ
and heard their conversation, he was undoubtedly annoyed, and what he did no one wouldâve expected.Â
He proceeded to throw his bike with full force, right down to th
e river and making a big fussÂ
to distract the two of them. By the end of that, Yamada noticed him. And I mean brooo, thatÂ
was just so good. From when Ichikawa noticed how Yamada was being uncomfortable, then gettingÂ
annoyed when she was acting like sheâs happy, to him pushing his bike to stop the guy from forcingÂ
Yamada to give him her number. Itâs so well done and it is so real. I mean I went through that too,Â
and to see how Ichikawa reacted to the situation, heâs such a chad and he deserv
es everythingÂ
coming his way. That is Yamada, ofc. I just picked out that one moment from the 1st episodeÂ
to show you guys that, this is such a well written story. There are other guys who are looking at herÂ
with lewd eyes. There are the ones that are more innocent but is still your love-rival. There areÂ
her friends. There are her parents. And of course, there is her herself. All of those could beÂ
considered obstacles in this pursuit of love that everybody so wish for. With an average roman
ceÂ
show, you would have all of those obstacles play into tropes and clichĂ©s and those people end upÂ
just being mere objects. In this series, itâs so natural. Every progression, every new person inÂ
Yamadaâs life that Ichikawa meets just kind of reflects how much more connected they are in theirÂ
relationship. And even if you look at it from the stand point that theyâre obstacles, IchikawaÂ
always managed to pass with flying color. And the way he did it isnât with luck or any meticulouslyÂ
thou
ght out plans, itâs simply that he has true love for Yamada and proved it every damn time.
Now that Iâve described how itâs realistic, letâs talk beauty. This is easily one of theÂ
most beautiful romance anime Iâve ever saw, and you know damn well I watched a lot of romance.Â
I mean visually, uh, stunning. The story itself, moves at such a perfect pace, in my humble opinionÂ
of course, and it gives the perfect amount of reward both for us as the viewers and the twoÂ
leads of the show. Ichikawa s
tarted off as someone who is self-deprecating, always having thoughtsÂ
like, sheâll never like me, I donât deserve someone like her. And the contradiction here isÂ
that he would have the arrogance to literally impose on others that, ah they hate me, they donâtÂ
see me that way and so on. That way of life is just horrible and well, Iâve been like that soÂ
I can relate deeply. What made the difference is that he loved Yamada and that part of him wonÂ
over his toxic sides. Thatâs when he was given
the reward. It was this moment. This moment. AndÂ
that moment. Each one pulled him away from that dark world he once enslaved himself in, turningÂ
him into a whole different person while still keeping all of his best qualities the same. It isÂ
wonderful to witness such an incredible journey. And Iâd also want to point out the subtletyÂ
of the progression. I love that Ichikawa was able to recognize that he loved Yamada in onlyÂ
episode 3. Many other anime would prolong this to the point of freaki
n 200 chapters and theÂ
MCâs like oh I do love her. With its setting, bokuyaba couldâve easily turn into justÂ
another 2 seasons of oh I do love her, but it didnât. Itâs crazy how Ichikawa could beÂ
lying to himself about anything, but not his love for Yamada. Oh my god I just realized how romanticÂ
that is. Ahhhhh. But ye, even when he realized his love for her, he still think of himself asÂ
someone whoâs not worthy enough. And of course, because he doesnât want to lose her he canâtÂ
risk confe
ssing, and have to tread ever so carefully to not show his true emotions. And notÂ
just him, both of them moved one step at a time, showing each other bits and bits of themselves,Â
and treasuring every moment they share. He loves her for she has opened his eyes to this beautifulÂ
world. And she loves him for he has shown her how to appreciate it. Now thatâs a beautiful romance.
