[Music] the words hazard and risk are usually used interchangeably but there are a few important differences between them knowing these differences can help us put our energy into significantly lowering risk rather than on trying to eliminate every hazard a hazard is a source of danger think of it as anything that poses a threat to health life property or the environment our risk is the chance that someone or something will be harmed by that hazard the important difference to remember is that ha
zards or any source of danger what we have to ask ourselves is what is the risk risk is the chance that the hazard will actually cause harm now I know that might not seem clear yet so let's go through some examples stairs are a hazard because there's always the potential you could fall down them it's as simple as gravity that being said stairs aren't normally considered dangerous but certain conditions can increase the chance that we fall which increases the chances of getting hurt which increas
es the risk driving a motorcycle is hazardous because there's always the potential to crash and get injured but the risk is significantly increased if you don't wear a helmet because the chance of severe injury is greater working with electricity can be hazardous if the wiring is live there's a high level of risk but if the wiring isn't energized the work can be done safely [Music] we all interact with hazards on a daily basis from driving to work to working and even our hobbies to stay safe we
