Wednesday morning may is mental health awareness month and a group of veterans is using comedy to help fellow veterans heal operation hilarious yeah you like that there brings therapeutic humor to help veterans think more positively and joining us in studio this morning is Demi Chang judges Dwayne White and PT Bratton all of them are veterans thank you all for your service so Duane I want to start with you what made you guys want to use comedy to help veterans and First Responders heal uh well I
mean obviously mental health is huge and especially in the military community and we've all used humor to help us through some hard times in our lives and and we just want to bring that and give veterans a voice in that in that area and Demi for you you're one of the hosts for the actual comedy show when you're out there and you're hosting the show and you see the excitement on people's faces what do you think that gives folks everyone to just laugh together there's something infectious about c
omedy and like Dwayne I credit comedy with saving my life as well and just seeing getting we have a DJ so that's uncommon with um comedy shows we get a DJ to get the party started and we just make sure that that camaraderie that we had in the military we kind of simulate that and PT you're one of the judges what are you looking for a funniness well you're winning you've got to be funny no we want originality creativity um and we want we want you to show us you we want to get to know you so put s
ome of your stuff in your routine so we get to know you yeah I'm looking at your sweater it says clean comedy matters yes sir why is it so important because comedy doesn't have to be found to be funny so I think it's important that everyone needs to laugh so we need to have laughter for everyone yeah I was actually looking at a study recently the U.S Surgeon General he said about 30 percent of people who experience loneliness end up dying early when you think about loneliness and moments where y
ou can find laughter that often helps people absolutely and people who are veterans I mean they experience so much first respondents they experience so much do you see kind of that immediate impact um yeah I'd say you've seen impact and what what I think brings people together a lot with comedy especially uh veteran communities there's a big veteran comic community in DC is just that camaraderie and that teamwork that we have and and that kind of that family atmosphere that maybe we used to have
in the military we don't have maybe in a regular job but the comedians are really we've gelled and uh and it has that family atmosphere in at least in DC that's good and for folks who are watching right now if they want to come out and see one of the shows where can they go when's the next one oh bestmedicinebrigade.com is where we have we update our shows and the tickets so tomorrow evening at 7 30 p.m at the Arlington Cinema and draft house that's where our show will be all right operation hi
larious I like it thank you all we appreciate it and again thank you for your service
