helldivers 2 releases in just a few hours
coming to the PlayStation 5 and PC. so, no Xbox as this is a game published by PlayStation
but it is nice to get it on PC at release as well where now instead of the top view style of
gameplay from the original helldivers 2 took some risks in completely changing the style of
gameplay to a third person shooter and man it actually does look really good by the way it does
support crossplay So PC and PS5 players can play together which makes sense since
helldivers 2
is an online co-op shooter so you will need an online connection to be able to play which this
is one of the few games out there that actually make sense to require being online and that makes
for some really cool features that we'll go over in a minute the game releases at the same time
for everyone at 1:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time 4:00 a.m. eastern 9:00 a.m. London but they posted
the full times here so if you conveniently live in Australia or New Zealand like a lot of peo
ple do
when a new game releases that trick is not going to work since it releases at the same time
for everyone if you don't know what time the game releases for you you're not in one of these
countries just Google 1:00 a.m. PST to whatever time zone you're in there are only two different
editions that you can purchase for helldivers 2 which is nice since it seems like every other
game out now has like four different editions and you have to sit there and connect the dots
on what gives you
what cuz half the stuff is junk anyways for this game you have the standard
edition for $40 and the super citizen Edition for 60 which if you order the standard already you can
upgrade to the super citizen Edition separately pretty cool since if the game does turn out to be
as good as it looks $40 is a really good price for it compared to all of the $70 pieces of junk that
come out the super citizen Edition comes with this cool looking armor set a matching Cape the np98
KN weapon super cit
izen status which is just like the icon that you can customize with your name in
the lobby it's a title and the strategem hero ship game which is kind of interesting it seems like
it's just used to practice the order of buttons that you press for different strats in the game
playay you also get the steeled Veterans warbond with this Edition and there's a lot of warbond
info to go over in a minute so that you can really understand whether or not it is worth it because
warbonds can be unlocke
d for free but with a ton of grinding or purchase like here with the deluxe
edition but you can also do that with the premium currency in the game for pre-ordering you get
these three different armor sets which look like a PlayStation skin a white knight and a black
Stormtrooper these will only be available for pre ordering and will not be available later on
as of now but they don't offer anything exclusive that you can't get in the base game so you're not
getting any advantage stats wise w
ith these armor sets they're just cool looking I guess obviously
it's always safer to not pre-order a game and wait to form your opinion after all of the other test
subjects get their hands in the game like me but overall I'm prettyy optimistic about helldiver's 2
so far there are three different Cosmetics you can equip in the Armory the armor helmet and Cape the
armor being the only one out of all of those with actual stats the helmet and Cape all technically
have stats but are really just
cosmetic and have nothing to offer you stats-wise since all of their
stats are the same while the armor matters quite a lot and varies between each different type and
the only Cosmetics that you can unlock are those armor pieces so you can unlock armor sets capes
and helmets but there are no cosmetic items for weapons you get a weapon and that's how it looks
there are no different skins you can change and customize for weapons some of these weapons
armor upgrades and customization are unlo
cked through something called warbonds you can think
of warbonds as a set of challenges that need to be completed to earn rewards these warbonds are
purchased with a premium currency that can involve microtransactions so you can purchase the premium
currency called super credits but this premium currency is also 100% able to be earned for free
it's that getting that currency looks to take quite a few hours of grinding so for example you
have the steel Veterans warbond here that they've made
a trailer for you get this automatically
if you purchased that super citizen edition of the game which is that $60 version if you didn't
purchase that Edition you can purchase it for free after you get the amount of currency needed which
I found a post here on Reddit going over what the developers put in their Discord stating that
playing the game normally without using real money to buy the warbonds will likely equal about
10 to 40 super credits per hour which you will be rewarded while p
laying and these guys over here
are speculating based on that since the steel Veterans warbond takes about 1,000 super credits
to purchase that it will take anywhere from 25 to 100 hours of play time to earn enough for that
warbond which I mean makes sense based on what the developers have said in terms of how much you're
going to earn and super credits are not required to complete that warbond once it's unlocked it's
all from just playing the game where you will earn medals they also state
d in their Discord though
that some players will likely optimize and be able to earn more than 40 credits per hour on top of
that super credits are also shared between every team member when they are found on a planet and
that also goes for Metals the currency that you cannot pay for those medals are what are used to
unlock each page of the warbond so you can earn super credits for free or purchase them with
real money to earn the warbond faster but then you need to unlock the items within
that warbond
with medals which cannot be paid for with real money and need to be earned in the game now also
for buying the base game you get the helldivers mobilized warbond which grants you apparently
more than enough super credit to buy one warbond something interesting is that you earn these super
credits always it's not like once you complete that warbond you don't earn super credits and the
free helldivers mobilized warbond and that premium steel Veterans warbond are the only two warb
onds
in the game at least at release so you'll have a pretty good Head Start in earning that premium
currency and you can continue to farm for super credits before another warbond is even released so
for example if you just have the base game you can complete that free warbond to earn enough credits
for the steel Veterans warbond and then just keep playing to earn more and save up for the next one
whenever it comes out it's pretty controversial at the moment whether or not it's ridiculous o
f them
to include microtransactions in a game you already paid for but to be fair nothing is locked behind a
pay wall so you do not need to pay for anything at least as of now everything is obtainable for free
but can be purchased to obtain it sooner also when you purchase a warbond you do not automatically
obtain the items in that warbond whether you paid real money or not when you purchase a warbond you
also keep it for good you can hop over whenever ever you want to play the game and chi
p away at
it it's not timed I think people are going to be pretty split on this on one hand it's not pay to
win since it's a co-op shooter and everyone is still able to obtain the items that others
have paid for it's just that you will have less to grind if you do pay for them on the other
hand a lot of people are just put off when a game offers something like this when you already paid
for it so definitely let me know what you guys think down in the comments for me I really hate
microtran
sactions in a game especially when you already paid for that game but I'm not too annoyed
here with how it works in Helldivers 2 as of now what I do get concerned about is when players find
a fast way to grind these warbonds for the rewards and earn them legitly without feeling pressured
into paying real money for them or the developers going to rebalance the game to make the grind
harder that's personally my biggest issue with some games that aren't too greedy on release but
then after rev
iews come out and a few weeks go by they kick into full greed mode the developers of
Helldivers 2 have been pretty down Toe with the past games that they've put out and pretty fair
to the point that they're loved by players but I mean so is every other developer until they're
not like look at Rock Steady as of now I've got my hopes set high for for this game there's not
a lot that makes me put off by it but if you're worried at all about pre-ordering or buying the
game right now at release
it's always best to give it a few weeks and see what everyone's saying
about the game if you're worried about wasting money this is a bit different from Helldiver's
one at least from what I recall you couldn't even earn anything for free in the first game
you did need to pay for some of the extra stuff but that stuff was only a couple of bucks so a
really fair price so I'm really interested to see if this changes for the better or for the worse
helldivers 2 is similar to the first game wher
e you have the galactic War where you basically
have a map of planets and the community's goal is to win the war by taking out all of the enemies
and completing missions on those planets and once the war is over it resets it's basically a giant
Community event where you're wiping out the aliens in different races from the planets to win the war
but they have made it a little bit different for helldivers 2 for one there are only two races in
the game at launch where the first game had three
here we have the bugs which are the alien looking
enemies and the automatons which are like cyborg robots in an interview on the PlayStation access
Channel they they mentioned that there is some type of real life humans a developer or someone
who apparently will be taking on the role as a game master so in a lot of tabletop gaming you
have a dungeon master or a game master right we also have a game master in this game it's very
hard to achieve exactly what you get at a table but we wanted f
lavors of that into this game
this is not a a minor part of our game this is a significant feature that we've designed that is
by the way somewhat different from the first game something that we're really excited to talk about
we have a suite of tools and a suite of real life human beings okay not just AI Bots right that are
doing this that are observing the gameplay as it's happening and responding in in real time what like
so like servers in like Arrowhead and then they're watching people
play and then they're talking to
them that's right in one of our games for example Dave was handed a 500 kilogram bomb to use and
Saga says that's the impact of a guiding human hand one of our team members was was observing
your play style and debated what to do and was like I'm going to drop them this this extra
strategy that's wild you were playing with us at the same time as you're playing with each other
and against the bad guys right because superar is all in it together right we're t
rying to find
the right things to do uh so we have this game master functionality where we can drop in more or
less things like Buffs but sometimes debuffs will happen too a good challenge sometimes can be
really valuable imagine how how tight it was towards the end of some of those missions what
if you had to hold and defend the extraction zone for twice as long as you did before this is
the type of thing that makes me excited for this game but also almost skeptical cuz they seem to
be ta
lking it up a lot as if there were someone spectating you in each match to help give you
items and change up the game but that just seems sort of crazy like are they going to be paying a
ton of people to go around spectating probably not cuz I could understand if there was some code that
granted you items based on how you were playing or a real human who's observing the overall war and
changing things up that way but someone hopping around to different matches spectating is sort
of insane a
nd if that really is the case that is really cool but it does sound more like they
react to the overall Community when they went over some more details and how the actual War Works in
here and how it seems like the developers might change up how enemies act based on how the war is
going in the first game we had a system where you would engage against a bunch of enemies in the
galaxy and then you would win right so you would push them back and then you would win and then
the Galaxy would res
et and that game is going really well now people are still playing it even
this 9 years later right and it's successful but we wanted to try something different here here
the progress through the Galaxy is going to be slower than helldivers 2 yeah so you're going to
be fighting trying to liberate planets as you do that the enemies have goals they will look
at what you've done respond to the ways in which you as the community that is has behaved and
react in a way that changes the face of th
e Galaxy thereafter so if you say are clearing the way to
the first those planets that were mentioned that you have to get to and you then take over the next
territory in the next one it's hard to say what the terminat will do in response they might try
to circle around they might try to hit you head on they might do something that you don't expect
at all and by the way that is something that this game master functionality does for us and I keep
saying functionality cuz it's not just people
and it's not just tools but both are involved and we
have a human stamp involved in this part let's say you get yourself to a certain part of the Galaxy
it think of it like a Battlefront right so we're battling on certain planets and as you liberate
them you push back the Battlefront or let's say if you fail them the Battlefront comes forward
and then you're fighting on different planets you're going to have new types of biomes new
types of environments to play in you might even have uniqu
e missions that you haven't even
experienced that aren't available in the normal course of gameplay but might be at the right
time in the story so there's this meta narrative going on that's playing out at the galactic level
based on what actions the community takes the war therefore that you're playing in plays out almost
in real time it's not like in uh a few weeks the entire war is over this is a galactic battle so
people who join us players who join us from day one they're going to expe
rience the entirety of a
full story arc they'll see everything all the way through as it unfolds as super Earth arrogant
as it is digs itself into deeper and deeper problems so these are the two levels of game
master functionality that I think are really unique to this game and I'm really excited about
but also might be a little hard to see right at launch because they play out on a on a longer
time scale so that tactical thing so with the war it seems like they really want to make this
li
ke a tabletop RPG almost where they are the game master changing up the story as you play so
that each war is completely different which sounds really cool for single player there is no single
player offline play but in the first game you were able to play solo and it seems like that may be
the case here as well although if it is like the first game it'll likely be a lot more difficult
but you can also matchmake to join a random party if you don't have some friends to play with
that is way
more recommended than playing solo especially if you're new to the game cuz again
this game is designed to be an online co-op shooter that allows you to have a team of up to
four total players if that's you you just want to play solo I would personally either pass on this
game or wait a few weeks and see what solo plays really like and if you don't have good internet
you're not going to like it either since you do need an online connection to play it's mandatory
the co-op actually has some
really cool features for example IGN's preview of the game said that
any of the equipment you call down can be used and equipped by your teammates and then when you die
they can loot your body and use your stuff as well something that I think is insanely cool is how in
this bit of gamep playay I think there's a couple of different parts of gameplay like this you have
a teammate loading the shells into the mounted gun while another one shoots I think you can also do
this with the rocket laun
cher at least it showed and I really hope there are other features in this
game like this because a lot of these Co-op games would be a million times better if they gave you
more abilities like this to play together instead of everyone just selfishly shooting enemies the
entire match this actually makes it feel like a co-op game and it's probably my favorite piece of
gameplay that we've seen you're also going to want specific teammates using specific weapons and
strategems since certain ene
mies really benefit from getting hit by fire and others explosives it
has also been confirmed that Mech like we had in the first game will be returning in Helldivers 2
however they will not be returning at launch which is why we haven't seen any of them in the gameplay
reveals or trailers they'll be coming out a later date so that is it I planned on getting this out
much sooner before I release but there was just so much information to go over and just about all
of it came from the helldive
rs 2 official Discord where they answer a ton of people's questions
leave a like and don't forget to subscribe for More Helldivers 2 videos I'll definitely have
some more out when the game releases see you
Comments
Anyone going to be playing Helldivers 2 tonight? A ton of people are currently having issues with matchmaking and finding other players to join. They've said that they're currently working on a fix but just something to be aware of. Premium currency in the shop is also super cheap as of now.
Everytime someing good gets dropped by a spectator, I will shout: "EMPEROR PROTECTS!"
8:23 blasted homie without remorse
To everyone hallucinating that there will be a Gamemaster actually watching you play and doing things, its been clarified that they will be doing things on the galactic front aka giving a planetwide buff/debuff not watching you play and doing something.
Yea, hopefully the server will be smooth tonight.
I wonder if the "Game Masters" will punish trolls and team killers...
Sony is probably keeping a close eye on H2 in the terms of revenue. First release since Sony's commitment into the Games as a Service field. The game has a shop that refreshes every 48 hours as well. So if this game does very well, might reinforce Sony's opinion on GaaS
So we’re all on night shift somewhere not getting off til 9 or 10 huh… guess I’m staying up longer to do my part!
I gotta wait until tomorrow night around 7 pm because I work. I just wanna show my enemies democracy so badly😭
I have to agree with a friend of mine. Helldivers 2 is just Helldivers 1 just as a First Person Shooter instead of the top down view. We all loved Helldivers on the PS4, 4 of us on a couch and we played it for days. I am exited for the Release of Helldivers 2 but recent game trends make me scared that it will run like crap on PC.
Played the game this morning for about 2 1/2 hours before work and I love this game, I was only playing solo but will definitely be on every night after work
As excited as I am for this game, I really hope their servers are up to the task. A lot of people will be pretty annoyed if none of us can play because the servers can't handle the influx of players. Still, holding out hope it all goes smooth.
Tbh, holding the mech stratagems for a later time is a good idea it gives something for the players to look forward to and unlike the first game you wont have to worry about new players unlocking one early in progression then accidentally stepping on you constantly. Though I am excited to see how they do the tank or apc variants from the first game. They weren't particularly amazing to use in higher difficulties, so heres to hoping they become useful.
$10 says the human gm stuff is only really used on streamers lol
This information kinda blows my mind and makes me appreciate what went into this game! Thank you!
I wonder if they'll spectate, moderate, record outcomes, and then pass it over to a bot or some code based off of the outcomes, recording a different dataset for each planet/level and each race on that level.
13:18 back when i still played roblox i remember a game that a similar feature with an artillery truck and you could have a buddy manually load your shells while you fired the gun and i can say it was a very fun experience
Most useful video ive seen for this game so far! Keep up the phenomenal work!
I'm so hyped for this games release
The warbonds seem incredibly fair to me. A lot less aggressive than other AAA games make their microtransactions. And everything is obtainable for free just playing the game even though yes that does require grinding. But if the gameloop is fun and keeps me engaged then it's only a plus.
