How To Renovate A Chateau

in this video I'm going to be sharing one of  my favorite tricks that I've used throughout my career as a designer in fashion it's a simple  trick but an essential step that enables you to take your drawing and transform it into a complex  beautiful repeat print that you can use to cover a large surface area after watching this video  you can have a go yourself with your own piece of paper to see how easy it is to come up with  your own print design but before we get started I wanted to remind y
ou what we spoke about in the  last two videos I showed you why learning the Lino print technique alone is not very difficult  the main problem that most people struggle with is how to come up with their own print design and  for that there is a simple method a lot of people think that you need to be an accomplished artist  or a professional designer in order to come up with your own print designs but that simply is not  true everybody even complete beginners can come up with their own print des
igns if you use a simple  and fun method which I call mood boarding if you miss out on the those first few videos then I  recommend that you go back and watch them now now I'm excited to share with you this tip which  is going to transform your designs and make them look professional to begin with I'm going to show  you how to make a basic repeat design so begin by drawing something in the middle of your page  make sure that you don't go too far out over to the edges just ignore my very quick dr
awing  this is just in order to show you what I mean there we go once we have finished our drawing in  the center of the page we're now going to fold it along the vertical center of our paper in order  to do that we're going to just fold our paper in two you just want to Mark in your  Corners the numbers 1 2 3 four now you're going to invert the two pieces of  paper so that your drawing is now at the edges of your paper now we're going to  SAE those two pieces of paper together on the back okay
now we're going  to cut it in the horizontal middle here now we have all of our numbers  in the center here 1 2 3 4 and you can continue your drawing as long as  it stays in the center and it doesn't touch the edge just like that now let's photocopy this  and show how it repeats so I've just printed out four photocopies of of my design and  as you can see when we put those together it creates a repeat you can see that the  design does repeat and it looks great here but as soon as we start to rep
eat this over a  large surface area it's going to become very repetitive and that's the problem with the  simple repeat I prefer when my designs are less repetitive and more complex and that's  where I use my secret trick which I'm going to share with you now we begin by drawing a  design in the center of the paper as we did before 1 2 3 4 we cut it in half  vertically try to be accurate when you're cutting now we invert them and this time  instead of inverting through the whole Center we're onl
y going to invert this piece  here so we find our Center and cut through the half so now we have half of the design here and then this half has been split  into two so we have one 3 2 4 and we can fill in this area  here remembering not to go off the edge we now align all of our photocopies whereas the  last one we had it repeating like this you will notice it doesn't repeat here so actually what we  have to do is come halfway down the paper and now we have a repeat that is dropping down so that
's  why this is called a half drop repeat and as we put this into repetition you'll see that it is  much nicer to look at and less repetitive this is the secret technique that I use for all of  my print designs in order to get a professional result you'll see it's super simple anybody can  do this why not have a go at home yourself this was just one of my tips and in my upcoming course  home print Academy I'm going to be sharing loads more such as where I like to find my best sources  of researc
h and inspiration also how to use a mood board to come up with a beautiful design and  techniques that if you cannot draw if you've got no drawing skills whatsoever will enable  you to come up with a beautiful drawing and a design for your print the course is going to  launch in the next few days so make sure to keep your eyes open in the next video I'm going to  be sharing the complete course plan from start to finish so that you can come up with beautiful  designs at home inexpensively and eve
n if you're a complete beginner I'll be sharing every single  step you need to take you won't want to miss that video because I'm sharing my complete creative  process don't forget that places are limited on the course so if you want to reserve your SP make  sure to sign up to the early bed wait list down below all you need to do is enter your name and  email address and then your spot will be reserved
