so we extended from here to here that's just one variation that's just one way that we can repurpose those same notes in different areas of the fretboard one of my favorite ways to get from something like down here to up here is using those octaves remember I said that g appears here an octave of G is here an octave of G is here we've got a g here we've got it all over the place it's either the same octave just twice uh or it's different octaves one lower one higher but we can use those to creat
e Pathways in guitar that allow us to extend the fretboard and really dive in I'll give you an example let's talk about the first lesson we learned how to play G major the first seven notes remember on the low E string we went 357 on the a string we went 357 and then we ended on the fourth fret of our D string well that's seven notes that's a proper full playthrough of G major in one octave but if we take our index finger and shift it up to the fifth fret of the D string that gives us a new path
way it gives us a new road map so to speak so when we look at those first two strings that we played the low E 357 the a string 357 I want you to pay attention to the spacing so you'll see that we went up not one but two Frets a whole step and then we did the same again and we did that twice so we skipped a fret in between each of those as we went up well just remember that for the majority of your guitar playing because that's why I love guitar so much it's just repurpose it's movable it's very
easy to visualize so again we go 357 on the low E 357 on the a four on the D string slide up to the fifth fret of the D string and now what do you know go 5 S9 on the D string 579 on the G the only string that's wonky is the B string so you have to shift one more additional threet but it's still pretty easy so on the B string then we will go seven slide up to8 and we'll end up going 8 10 12 8 10 12 and to make it sound good and resolved we'll slide our pinky up to the 14th fret and 15th fret so
all together it is 357 357 4 579 5 5 7 9 7 8 10 12 8 10 12 14 [Music] [Applause] [Music] 15 and already look at the distance you've covered we started here and we've ended all the way up here just by using two simple tricks with octaves that's it we we did two transitions with octaves so again we've learned from here to here being able to extend now we're going from here to here extending and this concept continues we continue through this entire learning [Music] concept [Music]

This is awesome! One of my practice routines is to pick a key and just jam in a mode 🀘πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🀘

@awclewis

not learning the note names on the fretboard held me back for so many years. wish creators would dump the tab numbers for saying the actual notes instead. otherwise, very informative.
