Hello, this is Lucas Palmeira from Imaginando, and I'm here to give you another tutorial on DRC. Today is Halloween so we have a special tutorial for you today. I've decided to show you how to make the bass sound and the pad sound from the song 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson. I've made some digging before and I came to the conclusion that the bass line was actually made by two Minimoogs played simultaneously and the pad sound was created by using a Jupiter-8 so I'm gonna start by showing you how
to make the bass line so I'm gonna open DRC on a default patch like we normally do Okay, here we have it. I'm gonna start by raising the pre-gain to about the same volume as the master and the oscillator to about maximum like this I'm gonna change the mode from poly to mono Then I drop the cutoff filter to zero and raise the resonance to about half Now we're just gonna raise a little bit the envelope generator that controls the cutoff filter like this About this much (0.54) Like this now I'm gon
na drop the sustain to about this much (0.3) and the release to about here (0.14) little bit more of decay like this now on the second envelope generator, we're gonna raise the decay to about this much (0.6) And we're gonna drop the sustain to zero So and finally we're gonna try to simulate the two Minimoogs playing simultaneously by adding a little bit of chorus like this Okay, we have the bass line now. Let's go for the pad sound another DRC here on a default patch As you can hear it's low on
volume So I'm gonna raise the pre gain for now in the master so you can hear it better And I have to raise the first oscillator to maximum and the second oscillator as well Like this now I go to the second oscillator, put it on the same octave as the first one and de-tune it (0.12) like this Okay now for the first envelope generator, we're gonna raise the decay to maximum Drop the sustain to about half Now I'm gonna drop the release to about this (0.13) Okay now I'm gonna drop the pre-gain, so w
e're getting a little bit of distortion - I don't want that. okay like this Now well we're gonna drop the cutoff filter to about half like this and the resonance to about this much (0.64) Okay Now we raise the envelope generator that controls the cutoff to maximum like this and on the second envelope generator We raise the decay to maximum like this We put the sustain at about a little bit less than half, and we raise the release to maximum as well like this Now for some chorus little bit of cho
rus like this and Finally some reverb Like this Now I'm just going to drop the amplitude give the volume of the amp a little bit, so we get about the same volume right volume to play the song drop a little bit of reverb and now Let's listen to the melody that I played before Okay, let's listen... This is it. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial don't forget to subscribe Imaginando's YouTube channel and I'll see you again next week. Have a nice Halloween and goodbye.
