how to travel alone as a woman what's up everybody in this video we are going  to cover how you can travel alone especially if you are a woman and i'm going to share with you  my tips and tricks because i have been traveling alone for the last three years and i have been to  over 25 countries three continents and all of that by myself so if it's your first time traveling  alone and you are about to take that leap of faith uh and you are maybe scared and you need a little  bit of encouragement so
you are in the right place so my first tip for you is to start small what  i mean by that is you don't have to travel right away you can start small by doing things on your  own for example stay in your area but go to a movie by yourself or take yourself out to dinner  start getting comfortable with yourself this is actually going to help you build confidence  and on top of that you will end up doing these things anyway when you travel alone and then  following up with that my step number two i
s to get out of your comfort zone a little by little  so the next thing for example you can start going to another city by yourself take the train  or quick road trip and then get familiar with being on your own and i promise you at the  beginning it might feel a little bit awkward and strange because you think you're going to be  lonely but with time you might actually enjoy it after that start going somewhere else a little  further away so if you live in the u.s why not take a weekend trip to
canada for example at least  they speak the same language you're not going to be too much out of your comfort zone but still you  are in a new country and you can really explore and meet people and learn new things and all  of that it's going to build up your confidence you know when i first arrived in the us i was  born in morocco and i was raised in belgium i took a huge leap of faith i'm laughing because  i look back i'm set i was really crazy i was 21 and i had a backpack in a dream that's h
ow i  call it i arrived at jfk new york city in 2005 with nothing planned i wanted to go to new  york and i wanted to stay and i did it i stayed in new york 15 years and finally when  i got all my things in orders college degrees citizenship all of that i said to  myself well i guess it's time to go and i have been traveling ever since next  tip for you if you are worried you're not going to meet people my first recommendation  is obviously hostels there's a great website called hostile worlds b
ut hostile the reason why  it's great is because you have to meet people you're gonna go there and eventually you'll meet  other women who are also traveling on their own uh my only downsides with hostel is that you have  to share a room which i don't like some hostels do have their own private bedroom but at my age i'm  a little older now i like to stay either in an airbnb or i love co-living spaces there are tons  of them around the world it's an amazing concept where you actually live in the
same beautiful home  and you share the space with other digital nomads or digital entrepreneurs so check that out  this is one of my best way to travel i actually have stayed in co-living space in tahazu i love  sundesk i had amazing experiences i also stayed in lisbon in venice california with the company  called outside another option is to join a group tour now for that i would not recommend to be in  a group 24 7. for example i went to nicaragua but there i went with a friend we booked a hot
el and  then we booked our planes and nothing else was planned and when we arrived at the hotel we looked  for a local tour and we did that and honestly it was amazing not only we had a great experience  with the local tour but then we became friends with the local guide and then he took us on  other places that were not part of the tour on the following days and those were amazing  experiences when you are on your own you get to plan the things you want to do you don't have  to follow around an
d i really build uh confidence both so you become really resourceful and i highly  recommend that instead before you go on a trip on your own do your research it's very important  that you learn about the culture of the country you're going to but it also helps you understand  and how to navigate the country there are tons of resources out there like lonely planets i remember  my first book that i got to go to new york called 2005 i would never forget next thing i recommend  to build a community
or to connect with people are facebook groups there are tons of facebook groups  about digital nomad or women traveling solo type the city you are planning to visit for example  lisbon and you will find a group like expats in lisbon and there you can ask a sort all sorts  of questions about lodging where the best place to hang out uh community events volunteering and  that way you can connect with more people and make your trip a little less lonely i also recommend  volunteering for another vid
eo where i cover how you can stay in accommodation for free and  that include volunteering you have woofing that's a great website but you also have workaway so  make sure to check those out because not only you will save money but you will also connect with  another group of volunteers and sometimes you can build long-term relationship and that's really  an amazing thing i recommend you learn the base of the language when you go to a new place so i  understand that you cannot learn everything b
ut people really appreciate when you try to say  at least hello thank you a couple how much is this where is this learn these things so you can  speak with local but now google um translate has a an app you can also download offline and you can  even speak to it and then use the voice feature to translate so that person can talk back to  you and honestly there's tons of apps like that i know in france for example american always  say where french people are so rude well i think the main reason i
s because no offense but lots of  time americans when they travel to other countries they just assume everybody speaks english and they  assume everybody wants to speak english and that's the case with france try something like bonjour  e excuse me you can say do you speak english in french escobu pale anglais and if the person  doesn't respond and say no we don't really speak english then you can try to show your translation  but make the effort to at least try to speak couple words in their la
nguage they will really  appreciate it you should also download your map google map offline when and if you get lost or if  you don't get any data it happens to me so many times where uh i couldn't get data to my phone but  i always download the map of where i'm gonna be that way if there's anything i can always  navigate with the map and you can also pin on the map to make sure you know where you need to  go the other thing with that is that you can find wi-fi in major cities often in subway st
ations  or even coffee shops or stores or even the city might have a free wi-fi that you can always use in  case you need to use your phone or if you lost or anything like that get a backup battery for your  phone so now they have those amazing one called mophie's but i think there's other ones so the  mophie's what i like is actually it's plugged into your phone at all time you just press the button  and then you get another a couple hours of charge on your phone or but otherwise get a backup i
have  one that i use for my laptop and for my phones that i carry with me at all time my next tip for  you is to not listen to the media sadly the media always portrays negativity and it's just adding  on the fears you already have of traveling alone i've been to so many places where people were  saying that oh do not go there it's dangerous i'll give you an example with nicaragua my friend  and i we've heard people saying to us well you know there was a civil war there you shouldn't  go there
it's so dangerous oh my god we had the most amazing times not only no one heard  us but on top of that people were so friendly and nice to us talk to other women who have  been traveling there recently and asked for feedback and when you go there people will tell  you okay this area do not go there or this area do not go there it's like right now i'm in chicago  i've never been to chicago i've talked to people not to go to south south chicago why because it's  more dangerous there's more shootin
gs out there so i know this is not a place i want to go and i i'll  check all these things so it's up to you to use common sense and that's my next tip use common  sense ladies do not get drunk all by yourself at night in a place you don't know use your  common sense pay attention to your surrounding listen to your intuition if going to a place  doesn't feel right for you don't go do not go but only if you feel uncomfortable not  because you're afraid to travel alone my next tip for you is to be
open to learn  and be humble you are going to go to places that do not have the technology or the lifestyle  you have here for example some countries do not have amazon prime where you can order anything  and you get to your doorsteps no so be really prepared to be humble and to learn about the  culture and to accept this as an experience rather than come with an obvious obnoxious  object go with the flow learn from people and then my next tip is to bring books so  for example in my case i trav
el full-time so i'm very limited on the amount of books  i can bring but i always have one or two including my book which i will leave the link  down below if you want to get it it's on amazon and on my website don't rely just on digital take  some time to read and journal and be in the moment that is really what is going to make you richer  my life has changed in ways i could never imagine i've met people all over the world in so many  interesting settings and you meet people like that all over
it is just incredible at least take  one trip on your own and see how it feels be open to see and learn and meet new people and you'll  see how richer you're gonna come back i hope this video really was helpful and inspirational to you  and if you have any questions or comments please let me know down below and if you are interested  in becoming a full-time traveler aka digital nomad i have a full course that covers everything about  this and i'm also going to leave the link down below once aga
in thank you so much for watching  and i will see you on my next video bye-bye
