the rivian r1t we've got one here and holy Frank this thing is some sweet I absolutely love it ever since Tesla brought out the model less that was the first car that was very clearly thought from the ground up to be an electric car and since then everyone's been well for the most part they've just been making normal cars just cramming the trunk full of electronics and crap not a care in the world rivian though they have done a fantastic job look at the size of this trunk look at how much stuff

in here we have the LTT backpack water bottle the holder for the water bottle sorry Nick I just stole that from you and even the wireless transmitter and that's not all down here we have this magnetically attaching cover and below that we have our bike lock as well as your AC charger that you can see it's at your house I've been absolutely loving just throwing all of my crap into this front it isn't the largest on the market that goes to F-150 Lightning but In fairness to rivian that is a much l

arger truck the overall design I think is fantastic I have never gotten as much attention electric car as this one right here spare maybe the tie can everyone absolutely loves it well not everyone some people think these look kind of stupid but they are factually wrong moving around to the side here we have our charging port which opens every single time you touch it fantastic and it's able to do 200 kilowatt DC fast charging that isn't quite as fast as you might find from like genesis or some o

thers but it still is pretty darn good and it has worked every single time for me for tires they have done this incredible thing where they give you options of tires that you might actually want these ones right here we have the all terrains and they are sweet good old Pirelli scorpions and of course all of the rim options I think look fantastic the amount of crap that you can fit in here is truly incredible you have all this space that's underneath the seats that's pretty average but there's al

so space behind the seats by pushing this button right here you gain access to the Gear tunnel which goes behind those seats but in front of the bed and you can fit just a lot of crap in there it isn't quite as practical as I thought it might be at first like I found my stuff always ended up in the middle and I kind of have to like yeah do one of those but at the same time it exists and as a bonus if you're putting like a kayak or something on top you can just hop right up here 250 pounds it'll

hold so you can you know grab something put it up on the roof racks or put something into the bed it's just a nice spot to have ours came with the power tonneau cover and to use it you just press right here you just press right you press yeah about that so the power 10-0 cover it turns out uh you get any sort of dust or crap or basically just use it and it breaks completely they are going to fix it but they haven't on this one yet so for now it's just disabled of course this being a truck you've

got a nice big old bed it isn't as large as you'll find on some but thank you Mr snazzy for confirming that 4x8 sheets of plywood will go in here just fine also back here is the spare tire area which uh notably does not have a spare tire in it and you cannot buy his spare tire from Rivier anyway it's a nice spot to throw your stuff it's like a Ridgeline back here we've also got an air compressor love it you can just dump your tire pressures when you're going off-road and then you know plug her

in and put them back up for when you're going home and also we have a very loud Miota hell yeah and also we have our bike lock which you can put through like that and attaches right in here so you don't have to worry about anyone walking off with it assuming your car is locked also back here we've got dual 120 volt outlets and some lighting for your bed in both sides of the gear tunnel we also have 120 volt outlets on the other side it's 12 and right here we have a first aid kit on the other sid

e is the air compressor line one of the coolest things about this air suspension though is that if you want to use the well the bed as a bed or get one of those fancy camping chummies it'll auto level for you let's see how well it works now if I come in here to Camping mode and hit Level truck apparently it will level it apparently it can take a while okay apparently it's done let's go check their homework we've got the level here put it on ah let's go right here not bad they're within a degree

given how we set them up within a degree is pretty darn good hopping into the back here this is a very nice spot to be we've got USBC charging USBC chargings seats are very comfortable it's got plenty of Headroom we've also got two cup holders access to the Gear tunnel and a little control for the rear climate and your rear seat heaters I really appreciate all the little details they have like this right here it feels premium without feeling like you're gonna destroy it the first time you touch

it in the driver's seat first thing I want to talk about is the key it looks really cool it's like a little Carabiner thing and it's also one of the worst keys I have ever experienced yeah it doesn't work most of the time I'm not concerned about the car not turning on but it doesn't always wake up doesn't matter I just use my phone now by just using the rivian app I can access the car like you normally would just through my phone I still do keep the key on me but it's really nice to be able to j

ust use this to you know lock unlock you've got all the controls that you'd expect climate control so if it's super hot or cold you can have it be comfy when you get in I like it in here we've got loads of space good old cup holders in here there's a lot more room than you'd think and we even have um a Bluetooth speaker for some reason it's cool I guess little bit gimmicky but it is cool in here they have eliminated almost all the buttons that you want but they at least haven't done it in a drea

dful way so steering wheel controls really nice we've got rollers we've got buttons so you can do your sound and your cruise control easily enough we've got stocks shouldn't be something that you have to talk about but here we are and of course the star of the show is this great big touch screen right here essentially every single thing that you want to do with this truck requires watching tutorial but at the same time once you've watched that tutorial it all makes sense and you can just do it a

gain and again looks like we've got our title app right here really nice and large to look at we've got Spotify if you want crappier audio and of course like your phone or your radio now one of the problems is that there's no Android auto or apple carplay rivian says this is because they can do a better job of their apps by doing it natively which In fairness the title app does not look this pretty if you're doing it through Android auto the problem though longer they're going to only just I don

't know it would be really great if they supported it for five years or so that's great for Tech but that's pretty freaking terrible for a car and I would really appreciate to be able to plug in my phone and know for sure that in 10 or whatever years Android auto will still go through my phone and I don't have to worry about this being good at all also you have to use Alexa which is fine but nowhere near as good as Google Assistant one thing that is very nice though is that they use Google Maps

for navigation so you don't have to worry about it sending you to the complete wrong spot like the Lucid was doing and overall even though for like climate control I'd really like to have physical dials you can just press this here it'll make sense the controls that you want are on the main screen at all times it's not bad I don't hate using it and well yeah it's not bad what else can we say Andy that's uh that's about as shining of a review as you can get these days an electric car I know somet

incredible all right let's put her into sport mode here break regen's ability uh off iron kill foot all the way on the brake gas oh my God this thing is fast holy Mick balls even though this thing is 8 500 pounds it also has four electric motors and a grand total of 850 horsepower that means that you have a 0-60 time of just three seconds this thing chopped the Lambos you can have a V12 and get absolutely dusted by this thing just like oh my God it is so good it is hilarious and when you think

of the performance for money it's like actually pretty good this is an expensive car this thing is 120 000 Canadian dollars but at the same time not many cars can do that kind of acceleration and especially it has a truck bed on it it has a front I can store all my stuff here and who does that oh my God Andy just asked if this is the fastest 120 Grand car 120 Grand Canadian it very well could be I don't know now as for cornering um it's a truck I've actually had a little bit of trouble kind of f

iguring out exactly how good it is just because like it's so incredibly fast so you can end up being extremely extremely fast in corners and the chassis isn't quite able to handle it but at the same time for a truck is the best handling truck I have ever experienced now the ride when you're in sport mode is pretty stiff so let's just put it back into all purpose and have things soften up a bit for us here this is a very bumpy road for just everyday cruising around this is very quiet and comfy it

isn't quite as quiet as some of the other EVs and most of the noise is coming from just the air around you this is not the most aerodynamically shaped truck well for a truck is pretty good but for a car it isn't but it does mean that you have a little bit of wind noise coming as I don't know there's probably some weird turbulence right around here overall though I think they have done a fantastic job at hitting what they actually want to do we can talk about going camping and blah blah most peo

ple are probably going to be just taking this to and from work every single day and it will be great for that these seats super comfortable this whole interior it manages to be premium but I'm not worried about like scuffing it up making it all dirty it isn't like those white Interiors in the Genesis overall it is just a very comfy spot to be and I quite like it oh it just started freaking out there that's one thing that I have noticed the adaptive cruise in this is not quite as good as what you

'll find on some other cars like genesis or VW or GM or pretty much everybody it's pretty bad overall it is good at holding the distance to the person in front of you but sometimes if there's a car parked on the side of the road or turning left or maybe there's even just like a hedge that's kind of close to the road it freaks out a bit and it's like ah is that someone no no it's fine it's not the most confidence inspiring but it's the sort of thing where you kind of know when it's gonna screw up

after a little bit one thing that it also has is the uh Highway assist feature which has never worked for me it just says Highway assist not available on this road and that's always been the end of the story in my testing going back to the hole this has four electric motors thing there's a motor on every single axle so you don't have to worry about like a differential not doing a good job or like you know locking up while you're on the road bad time time it just is always going to be able to do

it so that the exact amount of torque that you need is going to the tire that requires it this also has a really cool thing where by using those four Motors they're able to calculate the coefficient of friction for a given surface this means that they're able to pretty accurately guess if it's like gravel dirt mud snow so on and so forth because for all of those different surfaces you're going to want different allowable amounts of slip so on tarmac like this you want traction control to have i

t so that your tire is slipping as little as possible the more that it slips the more you're just going to be turning energy into heat bad time you will go slow on dirt though it's a little bit different so if you say want to do a really tight corner or do some hard braking you want to actually be biting into that surface a little bit and slipping the tire will allow you to be going faster and have more traction that's why in rally they're doing those big old big old slidy slide they're able to

get more grip by doing that whereas on a race track you do not want that in the slightest the limiting factor when you're off-road with this is not going to be the capabilities of the car with this four wheel drive system it will go there the limiting factor is how hard do you want to push it with a hundred and twenty thousand dollar truck I guarantee you that buddy in a 30 year old Pajero is going to be ripping past you because he does not give up now there is also an option for a dual motor se

tup so this right here has an open differential for the front and the rear so it isn't going to be as capable off-road but at the same time you have Motors on the front and the rear so as long as you don't have like Each corner in the air you should be fine and using the brakes they probably still can get you out of most situations one advantage of the dual motor setup though is that well there's a couple advantages one it's cheaper and two you have more battery options so this right here has th

e 135 kilowatt hour battery which is good for about 500 kilometers of range there also is a 400 kilometer of range 108 kilowatt hour battery that's available with the dual motor and an incredibly beefy 135 kilowatt hour battery that's also available with the dual motor so if you do want over 600 kilometers of range that is possible although it is expensive and you don't get the quad motor the seats are a little bit high up for my liking but at the same time like it's a truck of course they are a

nd oh we've got a corner coming up right here is not the most confidence inspiring I'm sure with the sport tires instead of the all-terrains it would be a little bit better but at the same time it's a truck and these seats you're just gonna be yeah just flopping all around it tight Corner they're not super bolstered but again it's a truck you can chop just about everything on the road like I am certain this goes faster around corners than my GTI and this is 8 500 pounds incredible what you can d

o with 850 horsepower you do get a surprising amount of inverter wine in here I don't know if you can hear that right now but you can sort of constantly hear the electric motors but for one it sounds cool and two you don't hear Too Much once you start playing some music in here we have a sound system from Meridian Audio and it is pretty dang good it isn't perfect but they gave us a full-blown EQ so any weirdness that there was we were able to just take out and it's yeah [Music] okay at that load

it distorts a little bit but when you're right around here it is pretty darn good for all of you r1t owners out there this is the EQ settings that we use to hit our lmg Target curve but with an EQ like this you can put it in however you want and the 3D surround is actually pretty darn good now in audio there's a thing called staging so you want your singer reading the center and then your instruments pan from left to right and in cars that's really hard to do because you know you're right again

st the side there's these reflective panes and so on so for the most part you just hear the speaker that's closest to you and this though it does a great job of sort of surrounding you they have this 3D surround in here so enhance sucks it brings too much to the back but on and off both sound pretty darn good it is a little bit roomy but at the same time like we have this huge pan of glass we have glass glass glass they've done a pretty good job now although practicality wise this thing is fanta

stic there is one thing that I'm sure all of the truck people have been absolutely screaming about and that's Towing and uh yeah if you want to tow things far don't buy this get a diesel like that's pretty much it you're going to have to be charging it up because at the end of the day like f equals m a you add a trailer and all of it's a drag back there you're not going to be able to go that far it's just physics that said though if you just want to tow something locally you're going to have no

trouble this has heaps gobs of torque it's going to be a good time and like I freaking love this thing this is a fantastic car sure 120 000 Canadian is a lot of cash but at the same time trucks are freaking expensive and this one right here is the best one that I've ever been in for the most part the vast amount of people that are buying electric trucks it is their very first truck and I have to say for most people this is gonna be great like we are in Langley and there are so many City trucks a

round and I freaking hate him like I'm from rural Nova Scotia and I absolutely love a truck for like you know doing some good truck things hate it when someone's just driving this big stupid thing around to take their kids to soccer practice and stuff so stupid so for the vast majority of truck owners around here this is going to be just plain better for them like way faster way more convenient and also just way cheaper to run have you seen the gas prices here brutal but yeah if I had the money

I would go out and buy this thing tomorrow like I like it that much it is absolutely fantastic probably my favorite car that we've reviewed so far it is oh it is so good like what what truck can you do this in Andy nothing oh nothing yeah it's sick guys please make the r1w the wagon I would buy that in a heartbeat I don't even care go into debt oh we have a corner oh my God uh right sport lowest turn off stability sure actually no I want stability on I'm not that confident uh we don't have time
