Think Media

2 years ago

it all started when i got an ad on instagram for a 4k video camera that cost a hundred dollars turns out it's the cheapest 4k video camera on amazon so i ordered it for think media this youtube channel i work for that has almost 2 million subscribers and so this was the idea i thought it'd be awesome to shoot a youtube video for think media using this camera and see if anyone notices if this goes as good as possible the video does well no one notices the camera quality and i can finally tell peo
ple to stop giving me the excuse that your camera isn't good enough if this goes badly the video flops the comments rage with 2 million angry subscribers and my boss fires me and honestly i was really excited until i looked at the footage for the first time and realized that this was probably a terrible idea so let's go back to when i was still optimistic about the experiment it's a hundred dollar camera as long as the camera works and it's decent then that's okay [Music] okay now before i turn
this thing on guys i've already committed to this so whether it's decent or it's absolutely terrible i'm gonna have to use this camera to shoot my youtube video and post it we got a power button on top so let's hit this and see if it turns on please turn on maybe you have to hold it down oh there it goes i see a light welcome guys i'm so excited about this oh let's say this wide angle lands onto the camera and get the full effect this thing has a front light are you kidding me all right here is
the first test on the 100 4k camera on amazon here is the moment of truth all right here is the first test of the 100 4k camera [Laughter] why this was probably a terrible idea before i take some test footage with this thing i'm gonna show my wife my brand new camera and i'm gonna see how much she thinks this thing costs so i wanna show you my brand new camera are you ready for this yes you're excited yeah i'm excited here it is i want you like so vintage i want you to guess how much this cost u
m three hundred dollars here take a look at it it's got a flip out screen but you can't like tilt it any other way it just flips right back like that got a flash it shoots 4k video this is a wide angle like lens adapter you think 300 yeah because it looks cheap it cheap yeah that's my guess 100 seriously i don't know also i'm shooting my next youtube video with this camera without telling anyone are you just gonna see if people notice that's exactly what i'm doing hopefully they don't realize or
they're like what camera is this probably not let's uh test this thing out you want to say something i would like to say that i don't know how this is going to turn out i hope it turns out well how do you feel about me using this camera to shoot my next youtube video i don't think that's a good idea i haven't seen the footage yet but i just can't imagine i just can't imagine this i feel like the colors look okay but they're bad really okay let's see how this footage looks as far as quality goes
i would highly argue that it's 4k it doesn't look 4k at all not at all not at all it's not good but for 100 bucks do you think it's worth it um i'd have to see more clips but i just i don't think you're in focus right here either the background's on focus you can just not be too close to the camera i don't know well now i need to shoot a full youtube video on this camera actually yeah i'd be interested what it looks like right here like with the light and everything i'm going to try and make it
look as good as i can with all my lights mics everything thank you for being in my video you're welcome sir you know where to find me all right now is the time to shoot my youtube video using this camera it's it's not the best quality at all but crossing my fingers i'm hoping that this video project turns out okay let's just do it i started to set up the camera lights microphone but in doing all of that i found out something about this camera there's one really bad thing about this camera this
one it doesn't autofocus and you can't manually focus either i tried every setting i even went back to the amazon listing here i thought it did say something about autofocus when i bought the camera but i'm looking at it now and i i don't see it i thought you said it was digital focus that's not a thing the camera is going to be way over there i have to sit way over here and it just looks kind of funky oh in order for it to be in focus like my books back here are in focus but i'm not totally in
focus so i just don't know what to do i have to shoot the video though why because i told people i would i committed to this is shot on pizza i don't know i don't think you should do it i really don't actually my wife thinks that i shouldn't shoot the video on this but i told you guys i was gonna do it so i'm gonna do it and that's what i did i pressed record and 20 minutes later i finished filming the video and i'll see you guys in the next video [Music] and all i had to do now was edit the vid
eo i kept telling myself that if the content was good enough then people wouldn't care about the video quality even with my positive self-talk deep down i knew i was still scared but regardless of my fears and without telling my boss i uploaded the video to youtube it was time to see if the people would notice today is the day to be honest i'm a little bit nervous the video dropped this morning time to see if this video is performing well and check out the comments let's just get right into it s
o far we can see that it's ranking second of ten uh within the first four hours eight point nine thousand views that's really really good now for the moment of truth let's take a look at the likes dislikes as well as the comments and hopefully i don't get roasted too hard let's just get right into it so here we are 636 likes and 46 dislikes that's pretty good but really what i'm wondering is the comments there is a 167 comments all right let's check these out i'm only like 10 comments and we hav
e a lot more to go but so far zero comments about the video quality there's no comments yet on the video quality a lot of people are saying great video so this is good so far let's keep reading comments and hope that there are no other okay that is the last comment there were absolutely zero on the video quality so truly this mission was a success but the truth was all of those comments really meant nothing if my boss hated the video just like that i got tagged in a message from my boss okay sea
n is posting about the video he said heaters this week nolan this is second right behind the editing tips one maybe he didn't notice okay there's some more messages and tony just responded i love how no one commented that it was shot on the 100 4k camera basically a baked potato true okay sean is typing dude i didn't even notice you're right tony we got him now if you're watching this i want you to be encouraged whatever camera you have i promise you it's probably better than this one there's ju
st no more excuses you can use your phone you can use a webcam you can use whatever you have and start making youtube videos what really matters more is the lighting the audio the storytelling the editing and truly just the content that you are giving with that being said click on the screen and check out a lighting tutorial to level up your camera no matter what camera you're using and i'll see you guys in the next [Music] video you

@Banteilangsyiem

You only need a good story, a $100 camera, a $900 microphone and $2000 light setup

@vidIQ

I'm fasciated to know how much you make on affiliate sales for that camera because you know at least one person is going to get one. After all, it's 'vintage'!

@ernestjorda2777

Finally, a camera I could use to film UFOs and bigfoot sightings with.

@Brick_Science

Loved this video!!

@OCSHORTZ

I am ashamed to say that that IS the camera I have been using since I launched my channel in January. It’s done me well to be fair, achieved over 13k subscribers in 6 months, so not too bad. Granted, I know i need to up my camera game, but finances don’t allow it at the moment, and my mobile phone camera can’t switch off the autofocus!

@MagnetMindMeditations

This really made me think about NOT upgrading my current camera! Thank you!

@thethriftyfawn

Agreed! I'm a huge advocate for "use what you have" and at the end of the day it how YOU put your creations together... whether you're starting with your phone, borrowing a camera, or have one of the most expensive cameras out there, it's still YOUR story to tell! 😊❤👍

@FrontPageFinance

Love that you mentioned audio and lighting there at the end. So many people don’t prioritize those, and I feel like that will boost their production value more than upgrading to a multi-thousand dollar camera setup will. My first equipment purchases were adjustable lights, and then a very high quality Rode Mic. New camera will be next, but I feel like the audio should come first because no one will listen to what I have to say if the audio quality is junk. Great video!

@WhatchaGot2Say

This was really enjoyable 🤓

@somycolleaguescantfindme

This goes to show that the best camera for YouTube is the one you have now! Be resourceful and make full use of what you have now. I used to record with just my phone! Content and Consistency is the key. Best of luck to everyone starting out ❤️

@Paul_Greenwood

Dude, this video works on so many levels!! Obviously, the message is fantastic however what people probably don't see is the clever use of storytelling. This is textbook 'Setup, Conflict, Resolution' and it works like a dream. Nice work Nolan.

@jonstamm

Great value proposition on this video. Loved the intro too. 🤙🏻

@JonDaiello

This is so encouraging! I've been using my iPhone + Yeti mic for the past year. I've wondered about upgrading my camera, but haven't wanted to spend the money. Thanks for this video, and thanks for taking risks for all of us! Keep up the great content.

@OOYAH

Your wife looks at you in the cutest way imaginable, that's so sweet ♥

@aaronsjorgensen

I went back and watched the video again, and you can definitely see the difference of the camera quality compared to the normal cameras you use. The colors are off and the footage looks a little jittery. But I wouldn’t have thought much of it because the audio sounded good, the lighting was strong and, most importantly… the content was great! Thank you for making this video and proving the point that gear is less than important then the skills of making a good video.

@KeepItTiny

Honestly, the editing done on this video is a masterclass on how to keep a viewer's attention. Amazing.

@cupofjoen

The best camera is the one that you have with you (plus 1000 dollars lighting setup, 500 dollar microphone with 700 dollars audio interface, 2000 dollars PC , 300 dollars light stand,200 dollars tripod and 420 dollars of annual internet bill)

@joshuadelaughter7968

This is just proof that the lighting is so much more important than the camera.

@ThreeTwentyTech

This goes to show that the equipment that you use plays a small role in the success of your channel. Don't worry about fancy cameras, lighting, and a special green screen that every other YouTuber has. Focus on what makes your content valuable and that'll take you to where you want to be. 💪🏻
