dialogue and then we'll talk about the
answers before we get to that though we want to remind you guys to go back and listen to a couple
recent episodes that we're really really proud of the first is um 1328 don't use get on Iz it's just

and also 1333 a very recent episode why slowing down gets higher speaking scores because there's
a lot of advice in there that you guys will not hear anywhere
else yeah I think some listeners
have been surprised like you're assuming the faster I talk the more fluent I'll sound so some
surprising Insight in that episode about how it affects your score to speak quickly why you
should slow down and how that will help you yep exactly just awesome episodes all the time
here on I energy so if you guys aren't following hit follow right now so you don't miss an episode
um we love to do different shows sometimes like today with the live listening practic
e the last
time we did this was four months ago guys and I'm just looking at the YouTube comments now on that
episode um and they're so good I was like we have to do this again one person said this episode is
way too awesome please please do more of these um another person said um I find it to be such an
awe inspiring episode that at the end I was like holy cow these guys again didn't fa fail to make
me feel in all the quality material like oh my gosh that's so so nice yes amazing we're gra
teful
that you guys loved that one I know you're going to love this one this is really useful practice
and also all of the tips we've given you for the listening exam you need to make sure that
you're using them while you you know use this real listening practice exactly exactly so we are
going to do an is listening part one today guys um and first we will read the questions okay um
and then we will do the audio like you would hear on the test and then we'll give you the answer so
if you w
ant to write these questions down you can you can also go to our blog alls english.com and
this is episode 1335 so we will put the questions and answers in that blog post as well so let's
talk about I's listening part one first what can students expect in part one of the listening
test yeah these are conversations about daily topics they'll be one to two maybe three people
one to two or more people talking about very two or more people always two or I see the part one
one to two or more tha
t makes sense it's not a monologue it's always a conversation so two or
more people just talking about everyday topics yeah like renting a house or um applying for a
scholarship stuff like that right um so let's get to describing what the questions look like this
is a note completion question when there's a note completion question guys there will be a lot of
information there already there's a lot of notes there already done usually there's bullet points
there it's just in note form right
but there's a few pieces of information missing right and
those are the questions that you have to answer so don't skip the information that's already
there I think that's a mistake students make you need to read everything on those notes before
you listen because that helps you keep track while you're listening all of that information is in
order you can't just stare at question one and wait for it to come right you won't be ready
you have to track the conversation by tracking all the word
s that are already there yes and
like Jessica said this will be on the blog so you can make sure go there so that you can see
what a note completion looks like if you haven't yet taken the I exam that would really help to
see this table with headings and bullet points and like Jessica said a lot of information that's
already there you want to check for keywords when you read these questions so you know the signpost
words to look for as your tracking in the audio yes so this looks like a tab
le and the first title
says River Adventure so it's going to be someone talking to a travel agent all right about taking
a River Adventure so that's the title and there's information under that on the Note question and
it says big sailboat goes out three times a day so I would underline sailboat and three times so
I would listen for those words so I know where I'm at in the audio and then the next part of the
table says first stop with another bullet and here's our first question it says ca
n blank so the
number one blank at the bottom of cliffs so Cliffs is definitely a keyword you're going to want to
underline that and making predictions here right this is clearly going to be some type of activity
that you can do at the bottom of these Cliffs yeah so predict word form what are you listening for
here we're listening for a verb right can you even predict what that is you can eat you can swim you
can take pictures you can um bungee jump at the bottom of the cliffs I don't know
so you can even
predict possible answers and then there's another title it says second stop right so these are the
places that the boat is stopping at and here is number two it says blank church so Circle church
that's a key word I'm listening for that and I'm listening for some sort of description of the
church maybe the name of the church um so either like an adjective or a noun I'm listening for um
and then it says Brewery next door with tastings so I underlined Brewery I underlined tast
ings
right I'm going to track those words as I listen and that's such a good such good advice that you
gave here Jessica this bullet Point brewery next door with tastings there's no question there
there's no number in blank so I think a lot of students might make the mistake of just skipping
that one going right to the next question whereas this is going to help keep you keep track of
where you are in the audio so you definitely want to pay attention to keywords there as well y
these are t
hese are all Insider 3 Keys strategies guys allar english.com keys to get the complete
system of strategies for the exam uh continuing on here the next is the next bullet point is a
question it says pay extra for blank okay so pay extra for what it'll be a noun probably right
maybe some sort of food or experience you know um and then what's the last question today and
the last bullet point says take and then this is a question there's a blank here for number four
blank on the Moors so somet
hing you can take right some kind of trip adventure you want to predict
here this will also be a noun something that you can take exactly exactly okay awesome all right
guys uh so here is uh half of a part one that you would hear on the real exam Aubrey is going
to be a tourist agent and I am a customer hello thank you for calling Urban Adventures how can
I help you hi uh I'm looking for a fun activity for a group of about 10 to 15 people definitely
how about going out on the river we have
a huge new sailboat that takes three trips a day and
holds about 50 passengers H is there food and drink provided no not on board but there is along
the way there is an opportunity to swim though at the base of the most stunning Cliffs the water is
a bit cold but invigorating where else does the boat stop besides the swimming hole I was hoping
this would be a lot more than just going up and down a river it actually does make a few stops so
once you get on board the swimming opportunity is a
fter about half an hour then you have about 45
minutes to dry in the sun before getting off at the Flanigan church it's over 600 years old let
me write that down how do you spell that that's f l a n n i g n thanks got it so I'm sure it's
beautiful but I'm not sure how long it church will hold our interest of course do you have any
children in the group nope just me and some other adults all around the age of 35 uh we're old
high school friends oh fantastic well in that case there is a brewe
ry attached to the church
that has also been in operation for centuries the monks there are widely known for the beer
they make you can take a tour and even taste some is the brewery tour included in the cost of the
boat Excursion the the tour is actually free you only have to pay for any pints that you buy all
right sounds good so far uh what about food not at that stop no the other thing to do there that
most tourists absolutely love though is walking behind the church along the Moors it'
s a stunning
opportunity to take photos okay guys so that's the end of that listening audio now let's talk about
the answers so the first question was can blank at the bottom of the cliffs so the answer is swim
and what she says it's not exactly the same right it's parallel Expressions she says there is
an opportunity to swim though at the base of the most stunning Cliffs so base is the same as
bottom and the only other verb in there that can be the answer is swim nice this next one I helps
you out often with words that might be difficult to spell and names and that's what they do here
this next one you have blank church and you might hear them say the Flanigan church and panic not
knowing how to spell that but luckily this this would be if I were taking this test I'd be like
who thank goodness when they say can you spell that please and then they spell it out for me
totally um yeah guys anytime you hear something spelled out in part one of the listening which
happens quite
often that is an answer okay or else they wouldn't bother spelling it all right
so number three was pay extra for blank so we predicted either a noun or an experience of some
sort and the answer is pints or beer right both of those would be acceptable because she says
both of those words nice and then the last one take blank on the Moors and this is either photos
or a walk because both are said here that Taurus absolutely love walking behind the Moors and it's
an opportunity to take photos
so both would work but notice you may you must make the grammar match
right if you write walking which is what is in the audio it will be incorrect because you can't say
take walking on the Moors so remember it can't it won't always be word for word often when it's a
verb you'll need to make sure the grammar matches the question yeah exactly exactly um and I mean
you should just write photos right cuz answer I think is most obvious um I will rarely require
you to change the gramar you almos
t always write exactly what you hear the speaker say Okay um
okay awesome so again guys if you enjoyed today's listening practice um leave us a rating and review
