I'm SHOCKED at the new MOSCOW | Moscow Vlog 2023

Welcome back guys In this video i'll share with you my first impressions of Moscow in June 2023. It has been 3 years since i was last in Moscow, a city which i loved and felt very proud to have lived in.. and then.. well we all watch the news! NOTE! - This is not a political vlog, i do not share my opinions on Russian politics or what i think of what is happening. In this video I just wanted to explore Moscow and see how things had changed in the last few years and see what the vibe was like on the street. I only had 6 hours to enjoy the city so time was tight as i had a lot i wanted to do! Thank goodness for the small rental scooters! Hopefully you enjoy this little insight... _______________ About me: My name is Matt, I am from the UK but currently living in Bali, Indonesia. I began my travels 7 years ago when I moved to Australia, since then I have lived in Thailand, Moscow and now here in Bali. I began making this channel as I loved cameras but had no real use for them! So I thought, hey – let’s make videos! Donna back in the center of Moscow so excited to be here look how beautiful it is I'd actually forgotten just our absolutely stunning this place is um so yeah I feel like an absolute tourist though I've not been here for three years I've forgotten how to suit everything I can't order a taxi and I forgot how the Metro works I forgot I had to scan in and out I actually had no idea where I was going to pop up then but I've actually popped up right next to the Kremlin so I'm going to re-jig my ideas
around today because I was gonna go I was going to head down into about uh Street where I used to live because I used to live here on Arbor Street um but I'm not going to do that I'm going to go to the Kremlin first of all because we're here so far no striking differences except pretty quiet it's Sunday so we'll forgive people for not being out perhaps but it definitely feels very quiet and the other thing that I've noticed just straight away serious lack of men my age around a lot of women a l
ot of elderly people a lot of young people but obviously not a lot of people my age rich devastatingly sad okay so I think when I pop out of this other side here I think we're going to pop it right in front of the Kremlin [Music] still blows me away how amazing this is so quiet I can't believe how quiet it is the first military poster I imagine we're going to find a lot more of those today but like I say just seriously quiet very few people around I don't know whether that's typical or because i
t's Sunday but that's the first serious observation that it's seriously quiet compared to what it usually is or what it was when I was last here [Music] [Music] foreign okay well it's definitely safe to say that it's much busier up here much more lively but still I've got to say quite quiet compared to what I'm used to usually there'll be like things happening up here maybe like a little Carnival or a winter winter festival or just something there's usually something going on up here it feels li
ke it almost feels like the soul has been sort of taken away just feels quiet feels sort of a little bit somber almost but you can't take away from the Beauty look at it just absolutely looking it around us so here behind us this is some Basil's Cathedral just simply breathtaking and it's obviously such a famous landmark in Moscow here behind us here we have the edge of the uh the Kremlin wall not actually in the Kremlin wall I'm in the I'm on the other side of it now to get in you have to pay w
hich I'm not going to do I'm curious as to put in this house there behind us I'm curious how much time he spends there these days and on the other side here we have this beautiful building which if I remember correctly is gum shopping center which now brings me on to my next thing that I want to check because I've heard obviously everyone's heard that all the brands have been stripped from Russia in fact I was looking at it this morning and it's up to a thousand brands have left Russia as part o
f the sanctions so it's going to be interesting to have a little look around here yeah gum shopping center so it's gonna be interesting to look around here where you where there used to be really high-end Brands Western Brands loads of cool shops so uh I think this is going to be a real test to see what is still here if there is and what it's been replaced with absolutely we have the Burberry window and just nothing inside you see all the way through the store there's actually nothing in the who
le store it's the same for Chanel next door although there are a few bags still here probably waiting to be sold so that's an ominous sign from Burberry straight away foreign [Music] well I don't know what people are talking about there's there's still so many shops here I've only seen a few but they're all still here [Music] I've only seen Burberry that's completely closed the rest of them have still got everything in the shop fronts and yeah this looks exactly like what it looked like come on
Blanc even [Music] I don't understand I really was expecting to come into this place and it'd be like a graveyard but this just looks like exactly how I left it this does not make sense Rolex amiga New Balance even Gantt I don't understand I was fully expecting to come in here and have like a wow factor on the video to be like look look how everywhere's closed but it's not it's just everywhere's open it is its own wow factor but definitely not the wow factor I was expecting I decided to leave th
e shopping center and take a little strolled over to arbat Street where I used to live [Music] now when you're here in Moscow there's literally only one way to get around in my opinion and that is these little cool scooters so just download yourselves the whoop that looks a little bit like this just like any sort of Taxi app just come next to it scan yourself in and then off you ride super cheap uh and super fun best way to get around if you ask me [Music] thank you [Music] okay I am on New arba
t Street this is the road parallel to the road where we used to live we used to live just on the other side of this road between our old our back street but we do have our very first big upset right on this road here I think it was either this shot there or the one next to it used to be the best burger place in Moscow it's called um Black Star Burgers and it was literally the best burger place I'd ever been to but I've just driven all the way here for the best burger ever and it's not here so th
at is a big shave Black Star Burger where have you gone maybe you've just relocated maybe you've been kicked out who knows but we're on new Albert Street so there's loads of places that I can go uh oh oh Black Star Burger is here it's just further up okay Black Star Burger I'm still here thank God well like I say everywhere as far as I'm aware everywhere looks exactly the same and I mean honestly exactly the same you wouldn't even know that there was a big W going on people are still living thei
r normal lives no fear on the street there's no extra military on the street there's a few extra military I mean the people that I'm seeing they're like kids like 18 year old kids just oh it's much smaller than it used to be they're like 18 year old kids that have just been drafted probably in their military uniforms and it's marched up and down streets but other than those and maybe a couple of extra policemen there's literally no extra forces on the street so it doesn't feel any in any way int
imidating it literally feels exactly the same I can't put my finger on what's different because there is something different but in terms of the shops the people the restaurants Everything feels the same [Music] um not spicy french fries maybe cheese ball it's french fries no cheese balls thank you guys [Music] okay let's head on to older Street there and see what's see what's happening over there I imagine there's going to be a few changes here because this is where there was a lot of Western b
rands so let's see what it's like now okay well here's the first one it's behind us here on this corner it used to be a Domino's Pizza I'm not sure what that says now but it looks like it's still a pizza restaurant what what's happening quite a lot of the time is I think they obviously have the menus they have the uh the recipe they have the ingredients and they have the supplies so they changed the name and then just call it something new sorry they changed the uh change the name give it a Russ
ian name and then just stay open okay so that's the first one I can see opposite is directly opposite the shot that's closed see just there I'm not sure what that was but that's got the shutter down now [Music] well just like before nothing's changed looks busy loads of people knew what about his sorry older but it's kind of famous for its younger crowd it's Arty crowd so there's a lot of hipsters and young people that hang around here playing music and just hanging out which is really nice and
I can still see that today yeah not a lot of changed it's a beautiful sunny day so that obviously a lot of people on the street there's more people here than there were near the Kremlin until you get right into the Kremlin area so that's interesting but this is a very popular little Street I love walking up down here we've got so many good memories [Music] well another thing that's a little bit interesting if you can just see over my shoulders a couple of policemen now I thought if I was just go
nna be walking down the street clearly filming into a camera I thought maybe they'd have a few questions for me or at least you know tell me to put it away maybe or just asked just hassle me a little bit but really nothing honestly nothing I cannot get over this it's been completely different to what I was expecting in a positive way I mean without getting into any politics whether that's a good or a bad thing but for me it's nice to have some nostalgic moments we'd have to walk down here and fe
el like not a lot has changed [Music] we go another Stars coffee it's just behind me here it used to be the Hard Rock Cafe and it used to be where you could get the best ribs in Moscow or at least my favorite rooms so that's obviously change as well someone could tell what that says that'd be great that's a shame that's gone one of the one of the 1000 companies that are out there we go we're starting to tick them off we've got Starbucks we've got Domino's we've got uh Hard Rock Cafe and I assume
we've got McDonald's McDonald's was just on this corner here so let's uh let's Rush down there see what's taking that place [Music] okay so this was the Madonna's window you can see probably they just stuck a little sticker over the top of that little red uh canopy I used to say McDonald's but they've still got the window let's see and they've still got the little old Graphics that were on the bins see that that's the old graphic that was on the bin let's see what its name is then what have we
got I do not know what that says let me ask someone sorry what's what's the name now what's it called just McDonald's but what does it actually say this says thank you it's pneumatology yeah what does it actually say though it sounds like a taste and the camera oh okay cool worse than McDonald's oh what the food really interesting so I thought maybe they would keep the same menu it looks very similar right yeah same same size because of War McDonald's took a lot went away go away from Russia don
't spot to work yeah sure and uh Russia boats no some Russian company boats McDonald's and made a new brand new brand yes but it is first time it was pretty good but yeah just very bad such a typical conversation with most Russian people super friendly super happy super like wanting to talk to foreigners and I imagine like most of them not supporting the Big W okay my day here is drawing to a close it's getting to nearly five o'clock which is when I need to jump back on the metro to get to the t
rain in time but I decided to take one last little trip down to the river uh so I'm gonna jump back on the whoosh scooter and head down to the river can't come to Russia can't come to Moscow without at least seeing Gorky Park and seeing the river so I'm just on the hunt now for a scooter and I'm gonna jump on [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] so this was one of our favorite things to do oh man Moscow in the summertime you just cannot beat it there is no City like it I promise you it's abs
olutely gorgeous so this is the river this is the river it cuts through Moscow separating the North and the South and also it's housing and also is home to Gorky Park Gorky Park being moscow's biggest I love us um Gorky Park being moscow's biggest part and a really cool Park but you can actually start to see it just open my right shoulder now it's huge loads of fun loads of people just doing so whoa look at this I was not expecting that I was not expecting that that's the first shower I've had s
ince Friday morning because of the flights I've all been on thank you I'm not sure what that was about so here's goalkeeper so as I come over the bridge you can see for the first time just the scale of it I'm curious how big it is compared to like Hyde Park or any other big Central Parks and big cities um I doubt it's as big as say uh hide or Central but it is still massive it's really good congestion on the bridge there we go okay so I've got nine percent left on this battery I'm gonna try and
show you a little bit of water park [Music] thank you [Music] well what better way to end this video than a little bit of barley behind me I didn't even know this was here but this is all I mean about this part just little things just get put up here here and there the last time I was here there's like a big skateboard uh like Center here and then like a big competition so this is really cool look how many people are playing as well love this park so I'm gonna have a little bit of fun here in my
last half an hour and guys and I see you in another video hopefully you've enjoyed this next video will be in ninja grad I'll see you there peace out

I was in Moscow last may and I can tell I will back any time I am American and of course westerners media and politicians portray Russia as a bad country but hey not all Americans are brainwashed by media. I hope to go back in the future. Greetings from Texas.

@takoto2610

Bro, I'm from Serbia and I was also shocked when I first visited Moscow in 2021. I'm coming again in mid-September 2023. Mainstream media are portraying Russia in such a negative way, while the reality is almost 180 degrees different.

@umbertomattei6553

I fucking love Russian people. Going through everything and still comes out stronger than ever. Stay strong Russian friends, greetings from Italy.

@paulkay3307

God bless the Russian people! Sending much love & support from sunny Florida, USA!

@hanefar11

I had a four week vacation in Murmansk, Monchegorsk, and Saint Petersburg. I have to say that the rural people of Murmansk & Monchegorsk were the friendliest people I've met in a very long time, comparing them to the rest of the world. They're very similiar to americans in terms of politeness. And Saint Petersburg is by far the prettiest city I have ever been in, with of course the best Russian food, almost as good as rural homemade food. I would recommend any one to travel in depth to Russia at least once. It is a very eye opening trip, in terms of the people who live there. And just how similar they truly are to the rest of the world, without the filters of the media trying to obscure their absolutely beautiful country. Greetings from Norway

@knowmoscow

Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve personally seen

@GaryAroundTheGlobe

Cannot wait to visit Russia again 🙌🏻

I'm a foreigner (from Europe) that have been living here in Moscow since 2017/2018. I have two restaurants here and business is doing great. I don't see any difference in young people walking around....and actually very very few people got mobilized from Moscow. It's pretty well known that most men that are in the Russian Army are from other oblasts and rural areas. Even in Ukraine, when these days men are openly kidnapped when walking down the streets, you can still find tons of young men walking in Kiev since the majority are kidnapped from rural areas or in the Eastern/Southern oblasts. Here in Moscow there was some panic when the partial mobilization was announced last year and many people fled temporarily but they are almost all back. Moreover I don't believe that most people are against this war...the ones that read Western propaganda or Western financed russian propaganda (Meduza, The Insider, Radio Liberty and garbage like that) are, but most people understand very well that the conflict started in 2014 with the US sponsored coup and was further provoked by NATO by rejecting all Russia proposals for a buffer zone in Ukraine. Basically it was either this war now or a major war later on that could have been much worse. Imagine if Russia had military bases in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela ecc...what the US would have done? Back in 1962 they almost got nuclear because the Soviet Union dared to put some missiles in Cuba. Here we're talking about encircling Russia from all sides and contravening the agreements reached in the past about the NATO expansion towards Russia/Soviet Union. Not to mention the killing of the people in Donbass.

@Mama_joo

Man i love Russia more than Russian’s So much love ❤️ From Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

@malikmalik-ny7tv

Before the war started i wanted to visit Moskou and now is difficult to come from Belgium😢,lot of respect to the Russian people who in my opinion are not treated correctly by the EU and US politicians

@nickname2557

My Favorite Country in the World, RUSSIA. i wanna get once there. Glory To RUSSIA!!

@anthonymanderson7671

This is why i want to visit russia as it is worth it. Greetings from zambia!

@sunl0unger

New McDonald's isn't actually that bad. To be honest, when I ate there, I didn't really see much difference. The fries are different in size, but the flavours are the same. That guy was too pessimistic and liberal haha.

@nicekami11

Sunday… quiet? What do you expect? 99% of the citizens are out of towns (in dachas (country houses) or also traveling cause summer is holiday season everywhere (Russia is not exception 😂) Also “BlackStar Burger” is Russian brand, it can’t leave, doesn’t depend on sanctions

@fartz3808

I'm Dutch, thanks for this video, i've always wanted to see Moscow. My mother used to study there in the 80s soviet time and it was much different then. I'm amazed seeing all the changes.

@user-ex2gx3nl5n

Машины, поливающие воздух, освежают Москву в жару. Это реально помогает. Я как-то ехала за такой на машине в жару 35°С. Люди выбегали с тротуаров под эти струи воды, чтобы охладиться.

@Junejane4

Thank you for the video. There can't be any winter festivals in July. They were there in winter. And the soul is there. It always there. Russia's been through a lot even for past 100 years. But you can't just take away it's soul. I would say it was in danger at the early 90s when Russia didn't know where they were going, they were lost but now it stands it's ground and defends itself, it's culture, history and it's right to be there despite constant attempts of some other foreign governments to create problems for them intentionally. And even blaming and punishing Russia after that because they didn't surrender without fighting. It means they don't know Russia at all. That's it's soul.

@boltandcat1686

How elegant and comfortable Moscow looks.

@user-dj1ii8gb5p
