Hey everyone Sarah from easy English club back with another English lesson. Today's lesson is different to the other lessons I watched some old movies the other day. I love old movies Anyhow the words, language and vocabulary that they use is different to what we use today So these words I've chosen, they're not commonly used although some of us use them. I use them. Hope you enjoy the lesson. If you find it useful and this is what you like Give me the thumbs up then I'll have some feedback and
I will continue to produce these movies Anyhow guys today's lesson Increase your vocabulary through movies Spartacus 1960 British English, of course so unusual words Thumbs up guys if you find it useful anyhow let's get on with a lesson the first word I've chosen from this movie is "Cohorts" two syllables Cohorts what this is it's a really old word to do with the Romans. It's from the 15th century Seriously old it's anothe"r word for like an "ancient military unit Like a group of warriors or Cen
turions Now how I use this in my everyday English. I normally say something like "where are my fellow cohorts" Where are my fellow Cohorts as in where are my friends? Where are my people? You can use it this way too "the police arrested the gang leader and his cohorts" so that's the first word guys "cohorts" Second word just happens to be another c-word Like this word don't use it very often. It's a noun and it is "corpulence" three syllables "corpulence" corpulence Well, this means is like a bu
lky state of being like obese Today's example would be you're a fat man. But the nicer way of saying is corpulence or he is corpulent just means that big bulky Large or obese. So people watch this movie. You'll know that the Romans were into excess excessive drinking Excessive eating excessive behavior too. So Example sentence. "He wasn't large but in the last few years he showed his corpulence" a more modern example "the doctor suggested that the corpulent woman start a fitness regime" or a fit
ness program Next word like this word makes me smile "ravished" Two syllables guys Ravished it's another verb. What it means is you can seize something carry it off by force Another one you can be ravished by something you hear or see it means like intense delight or excitement Example sentence. "I was ravished by the beautiful musi"c. I was ravished by the beautiful music Basically means you were overcome with intense feelings Another example, "she was utterly ravished by the way he smiled". Ne
xt word. Found this word hard to find him example sentences really has to do with Roman times "patrician" Two-syllable puh tri shn patrician what this means it's like an aristocrat, a nobleman like a title to person. Years ago you had rich parents and the kids were patricians ie they came from this rich family. They were kind of like destined to own land stuff like that So example sentence "on his return to Rome he was raised to the rank of Patrician" so really it's about people who have got a c
ertain breeding or a certain cultivation like the king and queen of England their children Another example the "Romans fled leaving behind the patrician" Last work guys, if I haven't confused you completely is a base two syllables "abase" Don't use this one very often. But what it means is you behave in like a way that belittles or kind of embarrasses somebody or someone you do something embarrassing like dishonorable Example sentence" a political scandal can cause a basement to the whole party"
More modern-day example "Tripping in the canteen or cafeteria, which ever word you like to use can cause a thirteen-year-old abasement". Basically means can cause him embarrassment or dishonor okay guys first movie review first bunch of big unused words Unusual words I've done in a video If you like it give me the thumbs up leave me a comment guys and I know what it is I need to feed you with these videos. Thank you for your time Appreciate it. I see in the next one. Bye. Bye
