what's happening in Polk County. The Board of County
Commissioners recently approved
a pair of measures that will help Polk County's
waste and recycling division better service. Polk's residents
for years to come. First,
the county's waste collection vehicles will be fitted within
cab route management software, which will reduce the number of m
issed pickups
and increase driver efficiency. Secondly,
the board voted to increase waste in recycling fleet from three waste
collection vehicles to nine. The move comes as Polk County prepares to provide household
waste collection services to 13,000 households
south of State Road 60. There's good news to share about
West Pipkin and Medulla roads. A traffic
signal will be fully functional at the location
as of March 20th, 2024. Plans are also in place
to have a sidewalk completed by the start of
the 2024
25 school year. If you're a fan of wordplay
and interesting visuals, you should visit Polk County's
History Center this month to explore
the festival of writing. The Festival of Writing features
poetry and short stories written by Southeastern
University students. The written works
are being displayed on the doors of the History Center's
galleries that served as inspiration. Southeastern University students
also designed imaginative
display panels for the works. The pieces will be on d
isplay
at the History Center through March 30th. And they will then move to
Southeastern University. Visit Paulk History Center
dot org for more information. Polk County's utility division is calling
all aspiring young artists. The annual Water Conservation
Art contest is now open for Polk County students in kindergarten
through 12th grade. Winning entries will be featured in the 2025
water conservation calendar. The county is looking
for posters or pictures that demonstrate the how
and why of w
ater conservation. All entries must be received
