The Board of County Commissioners recently approved a pair of measures that will help Polk County's waste and recycling division better service. Polk's residents for years to come. First, the county's waste collection vehicles will be fitted within cab route management software, which will reduce the number of m

The move comes as Polk County prepares to provide household waste collection services to 13,000 households south of State Road 60. There's good news to share about West Pipkin and Medulla roads. A traffic signal will be fully functional at the location as of March 20th, 2024. Plans are also in place to have a sidewalk completed by the start of
the 2024 25 school year. If you're a fan of wordplay and interesting visuals, you should visit Polk County's History Center this month to explore the festival of writing. The Festival of Writing features poetry and short stories written by Southeastern University students. The written works are being displayed on the doors of the History Center's galleries that served as inspiration. Southeastern University students also designed imaginative display panels for the works. The pieces will be on d
isplay at the History Center through March 30th. And they will then move to Southeastern University. Visit Paulk History Center dot org for more information. Polk County's utility division is calling all aspiring young artists. The annual Water Conservation Art contest is now open for Polk County students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Winning entries will be featured in the 2025 water conservation calendar. The county is looking for posters or pictures that demonstrate the how and why of w
