Welcome to the Great Barrier Reef, friends! The world's largest reef system is in Australia it can be seen even from space. In today's vlog, come let's explore it. It's a very small airport called Gladstone Airport. We'll have to take a helicopter from here. The Marine Helicopter Charter. But we don't know if we'll be able to take these big suitcases on this helicopter. Let's see what we can do. We have this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, And this one is huge, actually. This is wh
at happens when I travel with all the equipment. It's not easy, but I can shoot a video in the Great Barrier Reef. Yeah, let's see about that. -Down here on the floor. -Okay. -And that'll give you some space. -Yeah And you can jump up in the front beside me, if you'd like. -Which side? -This one. -This side? -Yeah, unless you wanna fly. Thankfully, most of the stuff fit in. Only the green screen didn't fit in the helicopter. The other stuff fit comfortably. So you're all good there, are you? Yea
h, we're good, mate. Yeah, just like a captain. Landing from a start-up, so Okay. I have a huge view in front of me. So, when we'll fly above the Great Barrier Reef we'll see a lot of things. He said we can see dolphins and turtles from the helicopter. Let's see what we can actually see. Let's see. Oh, the seats are so hot from the sun. They are. Look at all these controls. They seem so crazy. If something happens to the pilot, I'm the co-pilot. the responsibility to land it is on my shoulders.
I think it would be just like clicky clicky clicky. Can you hear me? I can hear you. If you hear yourself, um, talking in your own ears it means we can hear you. Now? Hello, hello? I can't hear myself either. Mine is not working either. We're taking off like an airplane. So Great Barrier Reef is in the middle of the ocean, but there are a few islands in the entire reef area where there are hotels and people can stay overnight. Heron Island is one of those islands and we are going there today.
And it's not easy to get there. First, we took a flight from Brisbane Airport to Gladstone Airport. And now we are taking a helicopter from Gladstone Airport to Heron Island. Welcome to the Great Barrier Reef, friends! This island seems to be a bird sanctuary because there are so many different species of birds here. And the amazing thing is that this island is not an island that is a part of the continental shelf. Rather, it was made by coral reefs breaking apart. The dead corals that are coll
ected for thousands of years formed this island. It's called Coral Bay. -Coral Cay. -Cay? It's called Coral Cay. Basically, being on this island means that we are on top of the Great Barrier Reef. Look at all the nests of the birds. Oh yeah, wow.! -Scared of humans? -No, not at all. By visiting the reef, you're protecting the reef. We got out room. Let's see how the room is. Because this is not a luxury resort. You can't expect much in these places. Oh wow! These birds are not afraid of humans
. Because during evolution, they never had a natural predator here. So, they are not afraid of anything. I am so scared they are going to p**p on me. Let's check out the room. Oh wow, what a nice view. The special thing about these rooms is that there are no locks. There are no keys in this hotel. Since it's just an island, they said there is no risk of theft. I mean, it's possible. If we are unsure, we can keep our stuff in the safe, but there are no locks in the rooms. Oh yeah, wow. We have r
oom number two, and she said it's the best room with the best view, actually. Yeah. So one really cool thing is that we came exactly in the right season because the turtles are nesting and hatching right now. So, I think in the evening we'll go for a guided turtle hatchling walk. 5 to 6 pm. And hopefully, we'll see some baby turtles. What do you think? Yeah, what do I think? You're ready to see some baby turtles? -Yeah. -I think we'll see some today. Let's see. So this is the bird's eye view of
the room. It's a very basic room. There's an AC installed. Not all the rooms have AC here because there's no need for it. There's a bed, a couple of sofas, and there's the bathroom. But the best thing about this is obviously the view you get from here. During turtle season, please turn off all lights when you leave the room. Because the poor turtle babies won't be able to find their way across the beach if the lights in our room are on. Yeah, we don't want to confuse them. Let's see what's outs
ide. Since there are so many birds obviously, you can see a conclusion to that. Everything is white and covered with bird droppings. I hope they don't drop any on us while we're walking. Just look at the number of nests here. And the number of birds. This is the exterior of our room. And in a short walk without going in the water, you can see so many fish from above. I have never seen this before. I think there is going to be a problem with eating here because there is only one restaurant, for l
unch, dinner, and breakfast, all three meals. And here is the lunch menu. It is a single-page menu with two vegetarian options. One is a vegan burger and the other is the pasta of the day which can be vegetarian. Nothing else. It seems like, I'll have to live on this for the next few days. This is the burger. It has a dal patty, with some fries, garlic bread and salad. This stone is a major danger zone. Because if you look closely, you'll see the large amount of bird droppings on this rock. H
uh? Look at these leaves! They're all white. Looks like someone threw paint on it. Every area here is a danger zone. The whole area is white. Sometimes... Oh my, God! That's a fresh one! -Where? -There. Sooner or later they will get us, I think. Uh oh! Another huge white area. Let's see if by the end of this trip, any bird dropping falls on us. Everywhere where there's a tree, basically. Oh wow! Such a huge white area. Another huge white area there. It looks like... It's almost like paint at th
is point. Better to stay away from the white areas. This is the restaurant and it's completely covered with nets so that no bird can go inside. Otherwise, they will get used to human food. This is the entire Heron Island and on half of the island In this small area, all the resort houses are situated, all the rooms are there. This is for research and mostly the forest is kept untouched here. It's a small island overall, it's not a big island. There's a warning sign here. While snorkelling or swi
mming in the water there is a jellyfish here which is as big as this 2-cent coin No visible sting, but it can cause vomiting if it bites. And pain. But I thought that was dangerous. How do we rinse with seawater if we are already swimming in the sea? You just continue to swim. I hope we don't get this. This is their information centre where they have kept the skeletons of very interesting animals. Like this turtle's skeleton, look at the shell, how big it is! It's almost as big as a child. And
there are different types of corals here. 2 million years ago. Wow! That's when it started forming. How did we discover it? That's how it started. Earlier, sitting on turtles was also allowed, but now it's written that -this practice is now prohibited. -Oh, my God. That is so weird. What were they thinking? Yeah. It must be so hard for the turtle to move. Yeah. There's an interesting diagram here about how coral caves are made. First, the coral dust from dead corals is collected and turns into
sand. Then, the birds sit on it. Fertilizers are produced from the bird's p**p. Their feathers and p**p carry seeds. And the seeds grow into grass. Eventually, bigger plants grow more birds come and gradually an island is formed. Like this island. This Heron Island is only 6000 years old. So it took 2 hours since we landed on this island and there we go! I can't believe it I mean it was expected when everything is white here. So it was just a matter of time. How long could we be safe? You know,
supposedly it brings luck, so... Yeah, is it? -How lucky you are! -I need a leaf. Just be careful that you're not gonna get a second one. Can I... Can you hold the water? Can I clean this? It really looks yucky. Wait, wait. Hold still. Bleh! -No. -Oh, my God. I can't clean it like that. It looks like it's been spread. I don't wanna wash my hair just because of this. Now that my hair is clean, let's go for a walk and see what's on the other side of this island. It takes me 20 minutes to walk f
rom one side to the other. And back to fake-feeding birds. Good for the birds themselves that they don't get too used to human stuff. Yeah, they're used to being made a fool. Is that the revenge for getting pooped on? -Fake feeding the birds? -Yeah. What is he trying to say? I don't know. Sounds like he's trying to talk to us. But this shot looks like it's from a nature documentary. He's so close. He is so close. A finger is right here. Be careful, he might really go for it. Do you think he wil
l go for it? I think he'll go for it. He's thinking about it. He can't fly away then? I also think so. It might look like it's not safe to go through such dense forest because there might be a lot of birds up there but it's much safer because there are leaves to protect us. There are so many leaves that there's no white paint on the ground. There are unique trees on this island. Can you see how the main trunk is growing? It looks like the roots have come above the ground. It's low tide right now
, so the water has receded a lot. Usually, there will be water here, but right now it's all the way down. The water has receded so much all the way to the end, where this coral cay is starting, that even if we walk all the way to there, the water won't rise above our knees. So instead of snorkelling, we can literally walk in the water to see the fish here. The water is so transparent it doesn't seem like there's any water here. Water is transparent all the way till there. You can see a sea cucu
mber in the water. There, there, and there too. We have to walk a little carefully so that we don't step on anything. This is Shark Bay, friends. We have come to the other side of the island, our walk led us here. Normally, you will find a lot of sharks here. But the water level is so low that snorkelling is not possible right now. So, let's keep walking like this. And let's walk around the entire island. If you see a fin coming to you in this kind of water, then it's time to wake up because you
're dreaming. You know, I asked the guy at the Marine Information Center if there's any dangerous jellyfish here. And he was like, of course, this is Australia. Of course, yeah. It's rare, but if you die, you die. We did it earlier while we were walking, actually. There were some black-tipped sharks. So, since the name of this place is Shark Bay, we've seen one shark while walking. And that shark was somewhere here. Where did it go? Where did it go? It disappeared. The dark yellow coloured shark
with spots on it. When you walk, you leave behind so much mud. Muddy trail. You have to walk very carefully in the water here. Obviously, snorkelling is the better option. Now, we are going back to our resort through the forest because it's almost time for the turtle tour, where we will see the turtles hatching.
