foreign [Music] video so I want to discuss a  concert that Elvis did in 1956 at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio Texas this concert was on April 15th and um now prior to  that Elvis performed in Amarillo Texas on the 13th but then he flew back to Nashville uh until on the  14th to record I want you I need you I love you so then after that him Scotty and Bill uh  went back to Texas to play in San Antonio so now this um they were  right in the middle actually of a 15 City month long tour at
this point and  uh now tickets to that show were let me give you guys a little bit of info tickets to that show  were uh 1.75 for the floor and a dollar fifty for the balcony and the total attendance for  uh both the matinee show and the evening show was over twelve thousand and the box office  itself grossed over fourteen thousand dollars um now what happens at this show  there was actually a couple of interesting things that I thought  um that I wanted to discuss and um one was on the 13th wh
en Elvis was flying back  to when him Scotty and Bill were flying back to Nashville to record I want you I need you I  love you um they had like major airplane problems and you know the more I read about this you know  that it piqued my curiosity as because some of you already know like Elvis kind of was um he  didn't like flying and you know I mean he did fly to certain places you know back in the early  days but this certain instance I think really scared him um what happened was um they  took
off from Texas on the on the uh the 13th to go back to Nashville  now this was a private plane um that was charted and the pilot actually  uh got lost and they had to wind up going to Arkansas to refuel because um they were about  to run out of fuel and so on the way after that on the way to Nashville the pilot forgets to  switch to the full tank so the engine cut out so um you know obviously you know it got  uh they made it there right obviously but Elvis was quoted as saying after that flight
he was scared he was like man I don't know if I ever want to fly again so now that makes me  think you know because I'm thinking months later um now this is before he recorded like hound dog  when he went to New York City and recorded handled and uh I remember him taking the train  to that and I always thought to myself um why was he like jumping around in Planes for a  little bit there and then all of a sudden taking trains you know what I mean so I don't know if  that had anything to do with
it that just you know piqued my curiosity a little bit if if um if  that in that incident had anything to do with that so I mean but he actually they  actually got back on the plane in Tennessee and flew back on a commercial  flight they didn't Charter anything private this time they went on a actual commercial  flight I don't know if somebody you know said I ain't going on a private plane or something  I don't know if it was Elvis but in any event you know after they were done recording I  wan
t you I need you I love you in Nashville did they uh did wind up going back on a  commercial flight this time to uh San Antonio so now that was one interesting  point and so now the day of this show um I don't think Colonel Parker realized or maybe  he did I don't know how popular Elvis was getting because of reason I say this is because I and  I've read this thing I was like oh my God um now outside of the auditorium Parker had a table set  up and Elvis was to come out and sign autographs and t
hey tried to do it in like you know a way  where they would uh have two lines of people but as soon as um the fans saw Elvis you know come  to the table that all went out the window and they actually mobbed him they mopped the table and  they had to quickly take Elvis away you know and shut the doors and everything and and bring him  back to his dressing room to protect him you know but in the midst of all that just this poor uh 17  year old girl uh passed out from that happening and so that tha
t was like another thing  you know I'm reading this story and all these different things you know I'm like  you know this is very interesting about this show and I I felt inclined to talk  to you guys about it um I mean the show uh the show went on naturally but it was supposed  to go on at three o'clock in the afternoon but it Elvis didn't take the stage till 4 30. and  I don't know if it was because of those reasons but um then he went on again  at eight o'clock now while um while Elvis was in
his dressing room  before uh before he came out at 4 30. uh he did a radio interview with this  DJ named Charlie Walker from kmac Radio and this is another thing I found interesting and  I'll I'll tell you why um Charlie was interviewing Elvis and uh I think this was the second this  was Elvis's second appearance appearance at uh Municipal Auditorium so he he kind of knew Charlie  already and uh he liked them because Charlie always gave him uh you know good AirPlay with his  records and everyth
ing so Elvis really actually liked Charlie and um now I'm gonna actually have  this interview with Elvis and Charlie Walker um at the end of this it's like a five  minute interview and I find it I found it very interesting something that he said in  the interview that Elvis said um now at this point Elvis had just recently signed a seven  year movie contract with Paramount Pictures and one thing stuck out in my mind the DJ  asked him oh are you going to be Elvis are you going to be singing in an
y of your movies  so Elvis said well I auditioned without singing and you know I would like to believe that the  movies I do you know there'll be no singing because you know I already do that you know  when I'm on the road you know I already do that so I found that as soon as he said that  right away my mind jumped to all those movies that he did where he personally got tired  of them because every single movie it was just the same old thing where he would just he'd sing  the song almost a lot o
f his movies wound up being like that towards the end of his uh movie career  and I found that very interesting when he said that because I like I said right away I thought  about like all those years later you know where he got tired when he was just it became monotonous  that he was singing in every single uh movie so that was another interesting point that um that  I found in this interview and in this whole uh this whole day as a whole and everything's  surrounding it there was like like I s
aid um like a few different things that it's not one of the  most popular concerts he ever did I don't believe um but when I listened to this interview and I've  researched more about this concert and I seen you know that whole thing with the airplane and then  I uh I'm like and I'm thinking to myself gee was that part of the reason you know after that  that like Elvis started traveling that he got his own bus because he used to have his own bus he  used to take to Hollywood is that the reason w
hy um he would take the trains you know to New York  and stuff like that when he could have flown so I don't know if if he was scared of flying  before that happened or if that certain incident uh really scared him a lot so much that you  know he started doing a lot of his traveling for buses and trains you know what I mean so  that's you know neither here nor there I really don't know whether or not that I'm just you know  that peaked my interest I'm like I never knew that Elvis had been involv
ed  in you know a plane that was not that it was uh yeah not that it was like a any  type of way they were going to crash it just um like you know Pilots are usually trained in those  um instances you know how to handle that but it seemed like it was such a situation that  that it it scared Elvis enough you know so um so so like I said this was something uh I wanted  to share with you guys because I found a few interesting things that surrounded this whole you  know this concert um and that actu
ally this tour included uh some of you guys know about it when  he played at the New Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas um that was at the end of  this tour he did two weeks in uh the New Frontier hotel in Vegas  that also was at the end of this tour so um this might not be the most uh popular  thing to talk about with Elvis I just thought that there were a few interesting things  that surrounded this event you know so all right guys without any further ado  um actually there's two more things I do wan
t to talk about my apologies there were  other people that performed at this show so and I want to you know talk about these people  not talk about them I want to name them this way you know you guys knew who was on the bill with  Elvis during those two shows on the 15th uh it was Wanda Jackson Hank Locklin uh the farmer boys Leon  Payne and also the Texas cool cats they were all on the same bill with Elvis for those uh two shows  I don't know if they were always on the bill with Elvis during th
at tour but for those two shows  um those artists were with Elvis on that show so and then actually Elvis got some good reviews  after he performed um at Municipal Auditorium on April 15th 1956. so I'm gonna review review I'm  gonna read the uh nice reviews he got for his uh for his performances that day so um it's one uh  lady this writer said his stage act consists in equal part singing guitar playing and dancing  the whole being classified If he if it can be classified at all in the rock and
roll category  to an adult ear all his songs sound pretty much alike but he puts them over with tremendous  Verve and vitality and keeps it up steadily for nearly an hour without visible signs of  fatigue perhaps because of his youth he shows no signs of nervous tension that's interesting  too because as you guys know Elvis always said he was nervous before his shows but this writer  says that um Elvis showed no signs of nervous tension in his show I just find that very ironic  because all his c
areer Elvis himself said I never got over the thing they call stage fright so that  that's pretty interesting in itself right there um yeah he showed nose no no signs of nervous tension or need for arrest that is  common to older performers um then in another article this other uh writer  said you couldn't hear Elvis on in the front row uproar exploded each time he looked as though he  might open his mouth a flash of white teeth from Elvis a loose hip slur and of dance steps a Brando  like gays
Marlon Brando they're talking about from from Soulful blue eyes and the floor vibrated with  6 000 stamping feet whistles shattered in the air cries have looked this way Elvis over here Elvis  drowned Elvis out lip readers jumping out of their seats in the vicinity in the vicinity of this  reporter obligingly supplied the song titles so and then his set list for um these two shows  were Baby Let's Play House Heartbreak Hotel Long Tall Sally I was the one I got a woman Only You  Blue Suede Shoes
money honey and Tutti Frutti so he got some pretty good um they  gave him some pretty good write-ups so all right guys so now I'm gonna take you to the  interview from this day uh April 15 1956. at uh Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio Texas where  Charlie Walker uh DJ from kmac Radio interviews Elvis this is right before the show and you  could actually hear the Mayhem going on like outside the auditorium fans are just the girls  are just screaming for him actually Heartbreak Hotel I believe E
lvis mentions in this interview  Heartbreak Hotel um had just gone gold meaning um well he was he said while he was in Nashville  recording I want you I need you I love you RCA presented him with the gold record for Heartbreak  Hotel that he recorded earlier this that year so all right guys I hope you uh enjoyed this video  I've I thought it was like I said very interesting on a few levels like few different things popped  out to me and I thought I would share that with you and this video in thi
s interview as well so  um I hope everybody is doing well thank you for watching the video thank you for subscribing if  you haven't please do and if you like the video just give it a quick like because that really  helps me out and in case you guys aren't getting any notifications about my videos just go into  your subscriptions next to my channel and tap the little bell this way you get notified every  time I put up a video all right hope everybody's doing great enjoy the rest of the video enj
oy  the interview and as always TCB and God bless well David was still backstage at the Municipal  Auditorium here in San Antonio and we it's really a pleasure to get to interview the next artist  on our big Elvis Presley show because this is the boy that in the last year or so has become  the outstanding Show Business personality in the entire world not only the United States but all  over the world this boy I think is probably the hottest Show Business personality in the last  25 years and we'
d like to get him over here to say hi to you at Great RCA Victory recording Star  Mr Elvis the cats Presley Elvis it's wonderful to have you on our show buddy thank you Charlie  for that wonderful build up and everything I just hope I can live up to what you just said  I'll be all right well I guarantee you that the two shows that you did here this afternoon  and tonight in San Antonio is proof to us that you'll be here for many many years to come thank  you very much Charlie I hope so it hasn't
been but about what about three months since he was here  on that's right about three months I was here remember I know but I know that in that time since  you've been here you've been on so many big shows and so many wonderful things happened to you I  know she'd like to tell the person about it of course we've seen a lot of publishing on it and  and I know that I guess one of the outstanding things that has happened is the uh the new movie  contract that you have with you yes I I guess I gues
s actually that's about the biggest thing  uh of course it's a dream come true you know I'm gonna find something out and everything would  happen to me from all people but it shows that you never can tell what's going to happen to  your life is that with Paramount pissed with Paramount Pictures and a seven year contract  seven-year contract and that's what they wanted I've had people ask me was I going to sing in  the movies I'm not I mean not as as far as I know because I took a strictly an act
ing test  and I I wouldn't actually I wouldn't care too much about singing in the movie because uh well we  saw yeah I did enough singing around the country we saw you on the Milton Borough television  show here recently and I guarantee you that the the job that you did with your dialogue and  acting on that show was really wonderful and I know that yeah you'll do real great in Motion  Pictures as an actor thank you very much sir and uh I'd like to tell you that it's really  been a pleasure seei
ng you again Charlie and all these wonderful people here in San Antonio  and they really accepted as well here and we're we're just thrilled to that we hope we keep on  pleasing them and giving them things they want tell us to understand that you received the gold  record this week for your Heartbreak Hotel it's sold over a million yes that's right yesterday  I had a session in Nashville Tennessee and and they awarded me with the gold record we talked  to those Justice tonight at the RCA Victor
manager in San Antonio and looked like this this  album I believe is going to be the biggest album seller that that RCA Victor has ever had in  the history of RCA make the record and that's going to be something in it but it really is  it's really great uh actually I didn't think it would do it as well as it had already when  we put it out but but it's doing okay Elvis I don't know if you can hear that or not I think you  can but I doubt if it's picking up on her mic but outside the window here
where we're talking  about 5 000 about 5 000 ships of Holland we want Elvis I wish we could get this let me see  if we can get this on the microphone foreign outside the window here and we just was lucky  enough to get our microphone and did that pick up all right there Wayne gee where's the boy  there holler like it was this afternoon it's ready to ride and I know that a lot of the  newspapers here in San Antonio gonna have stories on it tomorrow about the regular ride  that was closed here thi
s afternoon in fact it was so bad that I don't think you had a chance to  do much autographing did you no I didn't actually uh I I you know I I hated my two but if a lot of  people start getting hurt there's a lot of little bit of kids in the crowd and they get trampled  on everything and please make us quit you know well I know that you couldn't possibly have  gotten out there on autographed this afternoon because with that many people and they were  pushing and shoving and everything while you
would have probably gotten killed and a lot of  people that was out there would have too and I know that you would have liked it possibly gone  now what happens I know that if you have a long schedule ahead of you you've got uh I think  you go to Corpus Christi tomorrow today then when this tape is being played but here Monday  you're in your purpose and so then we will take up too much movie time but we're just like say  a million thanks to you lots of luck to a little Mississippi Boy that's d
oing real great thank  you Charlie and he's making those wonderful records and and we'll be looking for that movie  when it comes out and I want to get right on the front row thank you very much Charlie and uh  I'd like to say that some always people here just me chewing on some ice okay there's  nothing wrong with a tape recorder and I'd like to say thank you for all the spam Charlie  you've been giving me you've been really been I want to know that I really appreciate it and  uh I'll be lookin
