Something that would have been unimaginable today. However, before the Islamic revolution, Iran was ruled by Shah Pahlavi, and while it wasn't a safe haven in terms of human rights, women enjoyed much more freedom. They had access to education and were involved in practically every facet of life, making Iran a leader in the field of women's rights among developing countries. Unfortunately, after the Iranian Revolution in February 1979, the status of women changed substantially.
Ronald Reagan once said: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on for them to do the same..."
