this morning we are in the presence of a true Trailblazer in 1960 world-renowned scientist and conservation activist Dr Jane Goodall immersed herself in the world of chimpanzees in Tanzania her groundbreaking discoveries have had a lasting impact on the scientific World well today Dr Goodall has continued her advocacy work and her research through an organization called the Jane Goodall Institute and she's here to tell us about an exciting new partnership and a special day because Dr Jane Goodal
l turning 90 years young today happy birthday happy birthday good morning do good to see you good to see you and my sister's four years younger it's her birthday too what's her name yeah Judy Judy happy birthday Judy and J so in a sense you've been traveling like the last 300 days living on a plane for for all intents and purposes uh in kind of a birthday tour if you will because your advocacy for conservation continues no matter what well it has to because look at the state the world's in look
at how this deforestation climate change loss of biodiversity poverty and all the other things you know the industrial farming so it's really important to get the message out slow down Jane you're 90 I've got to speed up because I don't know how many years left I have it's going to be a long time listen the let's talk about this new partnership uh with jewelry company brilliant Earth and today they've announced oun that they are giving you really a sizable uh donation to the Jane Goodall Institu
te talk about how this donation will help impact uh your research well we we're having a gala this evening and there's going to be an auction and look at this beautiful tanite and it's recycled metal and you know what's fascinating to me what this chain this beautiful chain could be recycled tooth fillings really you really could I only learned that today oh my goodness what beautiful you know and it's really important because I just was in Brazil and I saw the effect of the illegal gold mining
where they use mercury and huge areas of beautiful River totally polluted for years to come and the the people living alongside are suffering from mercury poisoning all the life in the streams and rivers is dead and so to partner with a company that's using recycled metal and everything is sourc like the the diamonds that are around here they're from lab grown diamonds and so there's no impact in the creation of these on the environment yeah over the years Dr G you've youve really embodied I wou
ld say kindness and compassion um and not just for animals but but for for people um as well what more should we all all be doing folks who are watching and listening even sitting on this couch what more can we do to spread that message ourselves you know I think the most important thing is for people to understand that every day we live on this planet we make some impact and we can choose so we should ask question this this thing we're buying did it on the environment when it was made was it cr
uel to animals like Factory farmed meat eggs milk uh is it cheap because of unfair wages or slave labor those if everybody asks those questions and it might cost a little bit more to buy ethically produced product but then you value it more and we waste less human waste is horrendous whether it's food clothing or whatever there's so much of it yeah yeah so I I mean Jane to us you are a true icon so there is Jane the icon but there's also just Jane so it is your birthday how does just Jane want t
