The movie starts from a beach party where we see Chrissie and Tom who go for swimming in the sea. Chrissie goes into the water but tom is drunk,he falls to the ground and loses consciousness. An unseen creature is noticing Chrissie from beneath the surface of water and moves towards her and attacks on her. She struggles hard to save herself

After that we see Amity Town Police Chief named Martin Brody who is at his home and he gets a call on which he is told about the disappearance of Chrissie and he goes to that beach where Tom tells him that Chrissie was seen into the water last time. They were talking about it then suddenly they hear the whistle of deputy jeff from a distance and they run towards him where they found the remains of Chrissie being feasted upon by crabs. Back at the police station,Martin
receives a call from the medical officer, who tells him that Chrissie was the victim of a shark attack. After hearing this, he prepares to close all the beaches of the town. The mayor of the town named Larry meets with Martin and tells him to change his decision and says him that the 4th of July is coming and many tourists will come in this town and if the beaches will remain closed, there will be a lot of financial loss.

After examining the creature's mouth, Hooper tells Martin that it's not the shark they are seeking because it's bite radius does not match the wounds on Chrissie's remains. To prove it, He asks Martin to cut the stomach of that shark and check it and says that sharks have a slow digestive system and recent meals would still be inside. After saying this she leaves from there. After that,Hooper comes to Martin's home and says to Him that the Tiger Shark caught isn't responsible for Alex and Chrissy's death and says that the great white shark may be responsible for it all and it will stay in Amity's water as long as she will find people there in the wate
r. After that,they both decide to cut and check the stomach of tiger shark without the permission of the mayor. In night they both arrives at the docks and Hooper slices it's stomach. Inside it,they find some fishes,some tin cans and a license plate but they do not find any remains of humans and they're sure it's not the shark they're looking for. After that,they go in search for that shark. With help of Sonar,they find out that there is something at a distance. There they find a boat of a fishe
rman named Ben Gardner. Hooper goes near to that boat for investigation where He finds an enormous tooth. He examine the tooth but all of sudden Ben's corpse becomes visible with one eye missing. He gets scared as He sees the corpse and that tooth is lost. The next day they both try to convince the Mayor again and tell Him about the attack of shark on Ben's boat and shark's tooth. Mayor asks them to show that tooth as evidence but they did not have that tooth and the Mayor refuses to close the b
eaches. After which Independence Day comes and the beaches are filled with people but no one goes into the water. After noticing it,Mayor ask one of His friend to go into the water and He along with His family goes into the water. People start to go into the water after seeing it. The son of Martin Along with His friends take His sailboat and goes into the water but Martin, keeping safety in mind, tells Him to take His sailboat to a nearby pond. He agrees and takes His sailboat towards that pond
. Suddenly a shark's fin appears and people runs to the coast . Police boats get closer to that fin but they find out that it is a fake fin made up of cardboard which is made by two boys and they were doing a prank. The beach goers begin to relax but suddenly a girl sees the fin of shark in the water of pond where there's Michael with His friends. With them there was a boy too there on whom the shark attacks and rips Him apart. After watching it,Martin rushes to that pond and saves them on time
but Michael have a shock. Martin meet with Mayor and this time Mayor allows Him to close the beaches and they hire Sam to kill that shark. Sam desires to go on the mission alone but they both insists that they will go as well. After that,they embark on their voyage in Quint's boat. Out to sea, the men set about attracting the shark by ladling chum and Sam attaches a line of piano wire to a sturdy rod. After hours of waiting, the wire goes taut and Sam gets ready after watching this and They try
to catch it but shark runs away by cutting that wire. After some time,Martin ladles more chum in the water and the massive head of shark emerges and He alerts the others after watching it. All of them see the shark and Sam estimates that the shark is 25 feet long, and weighs three tons. Sam shoots the shark with harpoon tied to plastic barrels. By doing this,they get two advantages one,the speed of shark becomes slow and secondly,the presence of shark becomes more visible due to the barrel. They
chase the shark with the help of that barrel but the shark goes deep inside the water with that barrel and they can't catch it. After which it becomes evening and then night. At night,Sam and Hopper reveal their wounds to each other. Martin asks Sam about his former tattoo to which Sam tells him that He was a Sailor in the Second World War. Japan's submarines fired torpedoes at His ship and His ship was destroyed and 1,100 people were in the water of which 800 people were eaten by sharks. After
which they sing a song to cool the atmosphere. Just then the shark comes back and attacks their boat causing a leak. Quint rushes on deck and fires at the shark but the shark escapes once again. The next day, they attempt to repair the boat but seawater has contaminated the engine. Just then the shark comes back and they take out that first barrel and Sam shoots it again with harpoon tied with a barrel. After which they follow the shark and Sam shoot the shark twice with harpoon and two more ba
rrels get tied to the shark and they tie the ropes of those two barrels to the boat and the other side of the ropes are attached to the shark,with the help of harpoon. After which they take that shark and go towards the shore and the shark is trying to stop them in which the shark succeeds and begins to drag the boat in opposite direction. Seeing this,Sam cuts the ropes tied to the boat and the shark breaks free. After which the shark starts chasing their boat and sam is wanting to take the shar
k to less water. Because of driving the boat fast,engine that is broken gets more load and that engine breaks down and their boat stops and starts to sink slowly slowly because of the damage. Hooper aiming to inject the shark with poison using a harpoon syringe goes into the water inside a shark-proof cage. After that,shark attacks on the cage and the cage proves to be no match for the shark. He drops the harpoon and hides to save his life. Shark attacks the boat and catches Sam and takes him in
to the water. Martin enters the cabin where shark smashes through the side of the boat and tries to catch him. Martin gives a tank full of compressed air to the shark's mouth after which shark goes back into the water. Martin climbs to its summit with a rifle and shark attacks him whom he tries to scare with a harpoon but the shark goes into the water with the harpoon. After that,Martin tries to fire at the air tank in its mouth and one of His bullet hits that tank which is followed by an explo
sion and fragments of sharks. Then Hooper comes to the surface and both of them paddles back to Amity's shore on a raft and with this the movie ends.
