now let's flip it over to the Chargers though because remember it was last week when it became clear that they had four bigname guys who were available Joey Bosa khil Mack Keenan Allen Mike Williams they end up cutting Williams trading Allen to the Bears for a fourth round pick other teams supposedly were interested Allen said that the Texans and the Jets were possibilities for him and the Chargers get rid of Allen to Chicago and the other guy Mike Williams ends up with the Jets instead but who'
s going to catch passes now from Justin Herbert that's a good question I mean listen I I think again with with their football team and what the way Jim Harbaugh wants to play he's not all about oh let me just find sexy receivers and play that way right it's going to be Smashmouth football right we're going to control the line of scrimmage we're going to you know we're we're we're going to be high high percentage passes with the occasional shot down the football field and do it that way I mean th
ey there right now and I know I want to pull up my roster and I lost my damn roster here as far as uh the Chargers they got Joshua Joshua Palmer right as we sit here right now but after that it's an unproven rookie and Quinton Johnson who they took out of TCU last year who has a lot of Mike Williams type qualities right but he's raw he's raw TCU they only ran three routes right so last year he kind of got thrusted into the the fire probably a little bit before they wanted him to right but that's
going to be the guy that you hope can go wait can he take the next step and become a number one receiver here and and help out the offense and be Justin Herbert's go-to Target you know the rest of the crew is you know like I said Joshua Palmer's got something to him there he's got a little Talent so that's good to have him there as well but I would think again the draft with the receivers that I saw we broke down yesterday I I you know I would again try be thinking they're going to be heavy pla
yers in the draft for maybe one I mean definitely one maybe two receivers you know when it's all said and done by the time the fifth round comes around the folks at ourlads.com do a great job of keeping an upto-date depth chart projected it's not official obviously the teams don't give us anything until pre-season and even then they have all sorts of disclaimers that were just put together by PR and then you get into the regular season and you know who's fitting where there's four receivers yeah
on the roster now to show up on this depth chart Quinton Johnson Joshua Palmer Darius Davis and Simi foku that's it so they're goingon to have to do something they're sitting there at number five in round one Marvin Harrison Jr may be there Malik neighbors may be there others may be there that may be a way for them to address it they could be one of the teams that possibly trades down if the run on quarterbacks goes one two three won't be at four unless the card trade out but there could be an
opportunity there to go back and get multiple receivers you know we've seen plenty of great receivers emerge from the draft in recent years all the seven on sevens all the guys who are developing like never before catching all those passes that quarterbacks are throwing you can find decent receivers and Jim Harbaugh has been plugged into the college game for the last decade he knows who he's seen on the other side of the field and on his own team that makes him say that guy can play at the next
level I think that's one of the benefits of having a guy who's got an extensive NFL career as a player coached a team to a significant degree of success for four years at the NFL level was an assistant at one point with the Raiders that's how he broke in he's been in college for every class that's coming out now every year he's been there so he knows and he's going to know next year and he's going to know the year after to a certain extent he's in a great spot to help the front office and Joe Or
tiz the new GM really focus on who to take because he's he's walking around with the scouting reports from what he did week in and week out in his job the last nine years so I think that the willingness to move on from Allen and Williams tells you there's a degree of confidence there that Jim Harbaugh is going to know who to who to take and which round to take him to help that receiving depth chart improve well definitely definitely going to have you know inside looks like like you talk about ho
w to feel for the college game no guys where you go yeah he's not rated that high but I saw him in person he's a handful you know my Michigan DBS who were talented right it wasn't that easy against this guy right here so yeah he's going to have some inside knowledge let alone you know I don't think he's about that type of stuff anyways and I mean that by you know Jim Harbaugh's not going to make it all about the quarterback and the receiver and oh let me have a receiver that's a big time you kno
w uh I got to have the bald diva-ish type of guy right that we know a wide receiver can be I don't think that's you know really what he wants you know ultimately I know he had Michael Crabtree right in San Francisco now he had come off an injury I believe right if I remember that and kind of fell into their LA right he inherited that's that's why I was going to say that but I'm going off the top of my head you know but after that you think about it like who were the other receivers on that team
it wasn't about that you know again he he's not going to make it about that he's going to play balanced football he's going to try to spread the wealth I think throughout the roster of his football team and then at receiver yeah he's going to have good but he's not going to be looking for oh I gotta have Jamar Chase or Tyreek Hill or Justin Jefferson I just don't imagine him you know that that's never been his style he's not about sexy air yards and do that look he's got a quarterback last year
that's going to be a top 12 top 15 pick of the draft one of the receivers was my number five guy Roman Wilson he's going somewhere in the top 35 picks of the draft right so you got those two guys there and he still said well we'll run the ball 30 straight times in the second half against Penn State right so it's not about that and that's where I don't think they're ever going to be a team that's going to be chasing the rabbit of oh Superstar receiver we got to have them we'll pay $28 million for
that I just don't see them building their team like that there in in Los Angeles receivers on the 2011 49 first year in San Francisco Michael Crabtree Ted gin Jr Joe Hastings Josh Morgan I'm scrolling through the roster here alphabetically Brett Swain Kyle Williams 49ers fans do not want to hear the name Kyle two muff punts by him in the NFC Championship that open the door for the G make it Super Bowl and win it that year over the New England Patriots speaking of Harbaugh nine years in Michigan
yeah 9 years in the same house in Michigan right you accumulate a lot of stuff that you don't want to take with you to Southern California apparently and instead of giving it away packing it up and sending it to Goodwill Distributing it to friends and family you know what you do you have a garage sale Jim Harbaugh 16 million a year with the Chargers and he had a garage sale we don't know whether or not he gave the money to charity I assume he did he's not doing it for the money this is just an
effective way to get rid of your stuff and it gives people people who show up a chance to get some good stuff cheap I'd like to think that that's the way Harbaugh would look at it it's not about turning the stuff he's hoarded into money he can hoard it's just an orderly way to to move on from your stuff and you reward the people who show up there's a whole industry of folks who go from house to house every weekend looking for bargains and I think he respects those people they roll out of bed att
acking the day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind for finding good deals at someone else's house buying all their crap that they don't want anymore I could see where Jim Harbaugh would have a ton of natural respect for people who would put in that effort going from house to house looking for anything they can find that they say hey one man's trash is another man's treasure I mean you know again you you don't want like strange people bringing you sandwiches that you don't know to eat you know
I'm I'm more of the like I don't want strange people walking around my house and doing that type of stuff but I guess he's not there he's not going to deal with it right he's probably he's out next owner can deal with that it doesn't matter right the next owner can deal with that I would think you know more times than not like a guy of his status to your point would just go let me donate it to this shelter or whatever and just give them all this stuff I would hope he's not trying to turn around
and make a profit if he is uh I doubt that he is then we got to we got to make fun of them a little bit we do we we definitely do but I doubt that he is I think this is this is classic Jim harah like well why why would I why would I I could see him like having the conversation with his wife hey Jim we should just pack all this stuff up and take it a good why would we why would we people go all the time to we don't need these winter clothes anymore we're going to Los Angeles get these out of here
the these people honey these people put in a lot of effort to go to these houses and try to find these Bargains we have to contribute to that this is their opportunity their ship has come in but I do agree with the idea that you know depending upon how secluded the property is all of a sudden you've introduced anyone and everyone who felt like showing up to poke around at the garage sale that hey it's a pretty nice house so huh maybe I'll come back here sometime maybe they'll leave a door unloc
ked I'm not saying that the people who frequent garage sales would do that it's just the whole idea of introducing strangers to your property okay so anyway I thought that was just kind of that is just quintessential Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh if you told me any coach like we'll do from time to time hey who's the who's the coach most likely to wrestle a bear or whatever who's the coach most likely to have a garage sale it's Jim Harbaugh without question I think you're right I think if I had to yo
u know dissect it you're right I think he would lead the way for sure lead the way but hey to button it up I I would expect the Chargers with that you know that wide receiver position maybe they get another value signing here with one of the free agents that's on the street right and I would expect them to strike somewhere to your point third fourth round hey I got a look at this guy people don't realize how good he is I don't know let's try to grab him and go that way that that's what I expect
I don't expect the Chargers to be drafting a receiver at six uh I don't or five whatever it was there uh I don't expect that it just doesn't seem like a Jim Harbaugh Harbaugh family type of move you know to start your tenure with the Char it just doesn't hi it's Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football talk

Many people forget that two seasons ago Herbert lost all his receivers and still put up big numbers throughout the season. He’ll make lemonade out of lemons he’s that good. I’m sure the draft will help Herbert a ton as a chargers fan I’m not stressing.

@andrewbird57

Harbaugh added Anquan Boldin in SF who became the 49ers' best WR in the Harbaugh era.

@kevenadrien

I’m annoyed of this whole “Harbaugh loves to run and be physical.” Well, he’s never had an NFL pro, elite talent like Justin Herbert, to think this is going to be a 30-carries a game type of offense is misinformation. Harbaugh was a QB himself, he knows what this offense needs to look like with a great thrower like Herbert. Trust me, this offense will be far more explosive than most are thinking. 4,500 yards for Herbert and 1,800 total rushing yards for the offense. I promise you that.

@RipzandCards35

I’ve been a chargers fan my whole life and when Mike and Keenan left I was heart broken. On top of that, ekeler decides to leave and I felt like we were in shambles. But after listening to this, something clicked; among all of those names, how many superbowls do they have? How many times have these players came in clutch when it REALLY mattered? I’m not talking about a statement win in week 6 or week 10, I’m talking in the playoffs. Heck let’s go all the way back to the start of the franchise? The answer is never. At the end of the day, we as chargers fans wants a Super Bowl and it’s never happened. Doing the same thing with the same players and coaches over and over again will lead to the same result. Have faith in a man that historically wins games

@michaelschmidt6548

Too much overthinking...The best player available(Hortiz) and need at the WR position align with MHJ or Nabers. It's that simple

@user-iq6cc3df3l

I don’t know “who’s gonna catch passes from Justin Herbert now.” But I do know one thing: that receiver better wear some pretty good gloves.

@ThatJerkDude

Nabers at 5!

@robertschoelerman7496

Jim harbaugh will get it straight with the chargers kc better be ready for harbaughs chargers

@martinianovaldez2883

Denver and Kansas in december and january its cold as fuck. Got to run the rock, Gus Edwards its the man, harbaugh its cooking.

@garse70

This offense is going to hit teams for big plays down the field with play action. Believe me, Harbaugh isn’t stupid. He’s going to take advantage of Herbert’s arm. It will just be selective. It’s all about the OL and DL. Protection and pressure! That’s the message.

@ryansuter4424

Great point about Jim knowing about college players he has watched.

@montfordpointmarines9474

"When they zig, we zag"! ⚡⚡⚡

@P2G

3 out of 4 head coaches in the AFC West are legendary, hall of fame caliber.

@NoFace-ke9pc

The real question is. How many wolverines will he draft.

@cameronburnett1897

I think Chris is a little bit too hung up on Harbaugh’s proffered play style. Jim has never had the 5th overall pick in a loaded blue chip WR class. You don’t move off Keenan and Mike just to not have taking a WR at 5 not be an option

@christopherlewis8893

Im just confused why everybody is already giving up on OUR TCU boy! Imagine that locker room, it was probably rough in the rookie.

@jwalt16

Chris Simms is the only person covering the NFL that actually takes into account how Harbaugh thinks and coaches when talking about how he’s going to build this roster. Y’all gonna be sad as hell when Harbaugh passes on those receivers in the draft to take a TE or an OL. Dude been talking about running the ball and the trenches since he got to LA and y’all still want to believe he’s going WR at 5.

@LaoiseDeBhruin

Herbert is the only QB in history to have 6 players catch 3 TD's & have over 500 yards in a season. He was throwing to 2 undrafted players, they need a talent infusion but having a good run game instead of the 29th run game since he was drafted will help too.

@adammartinez9641

I think with all of the moves they have made, they will take a wr, mhj or nabers.
