out of all the interviews that you've had in these many years uh does there one that stands out as the most profound oh most profound interview well so I've interviewed people like literal dictators like people that have killed people like perz I don't know if you remember uh per marari was the leader of Pakistan uh and this was uh post 911 so and and Al-Qaeda had been threatening him with an assassination now I've had great like malal Yosi and Bishop Desmond Tutu Jimmy Carter like people of pur
e goodness like you just they they vibrate on a different plane of kindness and goodness than most people and you can feel it on them uh and then you have dictators slightly different vibe so perz musar it was only memorable because so uh he was at the time the president of of Pakistan and he was under assassination threat he' just written a book uh and it was his uh autobiography I think and so he came here to the show to promote it and that day we had snipers on the roof we had uh AK-47s in th
e hallway guys marching we had bomb dogs we had I mean it's it was a level of security that I had never seen before uh and I realized like this man is risking his life to tell his story on on this show I I should have read the book that's what I remember thinking is I thought I thought oh [ __ ] I feel terrible now here's this guy's he he could die and I'm just going to be like so is Pakistan hot like I didn't know [ __ ] but the CRA so the crazy part was even with all that security layer right
in the studio they put a Kevlar front on the desk like this was no [ __ ] this was you many of you are are younger so you don't remember after 911 like we all lost our minds safety-wise so like so they put a Kevlar front on The Daily Show desk and I'm in there and I'm I'm looking at it and I say because there are Secret Service agents from both countries America and uh Pakistan in the room and I go what's so tell me about this what's going on and they said well if somebody manages to get through
any kind of security issues and tries to assassinate President mushari we will jump and push him down below the Kevlar to protect him from the bullets and uh I said you know funny thing is I'm also uh you know cuz he you know I understand he'll be there and then and I'll be sitting there what should I do without missing to beat a New York City Cop walk by and he goes you your [ __ ] duck

@Ms_Nightshade

“You should f*cking duck” is the most New York of any New York cop I’ve ever seen!!😂

@aragregorian6039

I should have read the book... Brilliant!

@tonyb3123

I remember that interview. It opened with a gag where amid serving tea and exchanging pleasantries, Jon blurts out abruptly "so where is Osama Bin Laden" Mushareff laughs it off and says he doesn't know and it's not Pakistan. And of course it turned out later 1. He did know 2. It was in Pakistan

@bobtheskutterbot

Hey I was in that audience! Coming from the UK, I thought these New Yorkers were crazy with their security.

@perkusshin5505

Inhale...exhale. Like a breath of fresh air,in an otherwise stinky foul smelling time in politics. TRUTH !

@sammm141

One of the most interesting anecdotes from Jon Stewart I've ever heard and this man has a lot of anecdotes!

@maggiebodek

I love this on many levels. But when Jon mentions in his perfect way the names of Tutu, Malala, and Jimmy Carter, he gave us a minute to reflect on goodness and that maybe we can still have hope. He is so brilliant,. The whole clip is wonderful and left me sobbing in laughter and respect.

@busterbrown446

One day a week of Jon Stewart is not enough.

@melissasaint3283

As absolutely horrible as it was to be in America in the days and months and years right after 9/11, Jon was a great person to be in that emotional foxhole with.

@doctorbeanis

I could listen to stories like this for hours - Jon is a natural. Glad he is back! ❤

@batgurrl

I love Jon and his versatility.. Love when he throws humor into the serious tone- maybe I should Have read the Book

@zizinnnn

his mind, his humour, his voice, Jon is a gift❤

@DryHeart23

Jon, you are just priceless. Never stop! (Please) 🙂

@laalaa99stl

Nobody read the book. But it was a best-seller. Such is the way with dictators.

@Lennybird91

More of these After Cuts please!

@alexandergiesser

That definitely sounds like more security than even former president Jimmy Carter got WAYYYY back when I had the luck to be in the audience. The book and NYC cop were priceless. Keep up the great work, everyone!

@sakura5697

This is wonderful hope to see more of these

@alfredocastellanos8398
