Judge to Sherri Papini during sentencing: "People don't like being conned"

The judge who sentenced Papini said the sheer number of people that were impacted by her conduct – including the officers who took time away from other victims to investigate...and the real victims who had their cases ignored or put on the back burner -- was enough to make the sentence serious.

it was a shocking kidnapping that turned into an even more shocking hoax Sherry papini was sentenced today to more than 18 months in prison the case from 2016 Drew national attention thanks for staying with us here at 5 30 I'm Adrian Moore and I'm Curtis Ming a judge had harsh words for the running mom CBS 13's Madison kiwi was in court for the sentencing and the apology from papini herself when Sherry papini arrived at the federal courthouse in Sacramento Monday she was greeted by cameras and r
eporters like me with questions why do court documents say she's still telling people she's been kidnapped repeatedly lie to law enforcement since 2016 when she faked her own kidnapping she told them she was taken by two Hispanic women and escaped injured on Thanksgiving three weeks later all of it made up I think Sherry has said pretty much everything he could possibly affect in her sentences thousands of dollars from the state victims Compensation Board more than a hundred thousand dollars spe
nt by law enforcement on the search and thousands more from Social Security all of it taken part of her lies and when Sherry came to my office she told us the truth Maybe not immediately but it was the truth do you have anything to say about what happened today you want to add answer my questions but she did speak in court she apologized to anyone who was willing to help her and admitted she was guilty she said quote what was done cannot be undone it can never be erased I am not choosing to stay
frozen like I was in 2016. I am choosing to commit to Healing the parts of myself that were so very broken but a federal judge wasn't convinced he said just the sheer number of people that were impacted by her conduct including the officers who took time away from other victims to investigate and the real victims who had their cases ignored or put on the back burner was enough to make the sentence serious his words people don't like to be conned because of that they likely wouldn't take a month
or eight as adequate punishment papini who was audibly crying as the judge spoke was quiet for CBS 13's final questions he knew her heart by the time he sentenced her well papini was also ordered to pay 309 thousand dollars in restitution although the judge acknowledged she probably won't be able to afford that as for serving her full sentence she will be eligible to earn up to 54 days of good time credit after the first year and that means if she behaves she could get out nearly two months ear
ly she will report to federal prison in November

@jomc7425

I love how her lawyer said she's admitted her guilt from Day 1. How does he explain the last 6 YEARS of lies from this woman?

@iloy1218

If I were the judge I’d make an example out of panini “ 10 years NO BAIL “

@stevecobb9230

It took six years to sentence her to what will almost certainly be 16 months?!? Our justice system is an absolute joke!

@puredust5797

Her attorney "Admitted her guilt from day one".. hahahaha what a lie

@cynthiaconnors183

That sentence isn't nearly long enough.

@fabasi2912

What does she mean when she says “I am not choosing to stay frozen like I was in 2016”? What is this narcissist talking about? If I recall she was busy in 2016 planning her own kidnap and lying through her teeth.

@lucanolallo1776

A mother doesn’t leave her kids for 21 days in a world of fear and confusion just for fun. Her spouse stuck by her side this entire time as well.

@pastorpage2269

Blonde hair, blue eyes = 18 months, what should have been nothing less than 5 years

@ckalnicki

What a nutcase.

@Everfast3.5sec

I wonders how Hispanic women will treat her in prison.

@delilahrainelle7158

Her apology was no apology. She just said she was committed to healing the parts of her that were broken. In everyday terms that’s BS! She should be ordered to repay every shiny nickel it costs to look for her and every nickel she took from charity.

@marwatson7408

Exactly so many resources wasted on looking for her when other people were in need of them. She is a complete embarrassment😢 her husband divorced her good for him and hopefully the rest of her family disowns her and her friends dump her for good. When people do stupid things like this is only makes it harder and harder on everyone involved from the police, to people who are the actual victims of a crime.

@kaylabrownell1268

What kind of an apology was that, I'm not going to be frozen? Girl you faked a kidnapping you ain't the victim here!

@nicolekyle3964

Is that Keith yelling in the background haha

@robertafierro5592

This what happens when you spend your whole life LYING to get through the day.

@Gobble_de_Goop

Aren't they concerned she'll try to "take the easy way out" ahead of her November report date??? The Federal Marshalls should have taken her in ASAP.

@ashbash635

This woman had a life that someone like me could only dream of. None of it was enough for her, beautiful kids a loving husband and a great life. Yet she couldn't stop herself from telling tales, she lied numerous times over the years. However too fake your own kidnapping and actually starve and beat and brand yourself and then deceive law enforcement for four years just for money and attention is sick. Now she's lost her husband who divorced her after finding out, made to pay back all the money that she stole from real victims who needed it. Shamed and embarrassed once everyone found out her lies and 18 months in prison. For what? Such a selfish foolish woman, I hope she's learned a harsh lesson.

@ghostmanscores1666

Show the judge your brand.

@soalegria1971

In my opinion she wasn’t sentenced to enough time and her attorney is liar

@matstarcher7630

This chic is sustained on attention. Want to punish her put her on a remote island without social media
