My little Amudha, happy,
happy birthday. - Someone's wet the bed!
- Who wet the bed? - Must be Akhil.
- It wasn't me. Appa! - Was it your father?
- Yes! You blaming him?
Amma, I wanna pee! You fool, I told you
I wanted to go. Oh God! Come here! The telephone...here. No, he doesn't travel out of town
to attend any events. Why? Because his wife is unwell. She's mentally unstable. He doesn't travel. That's right. - It starts first thing in the morning.
- I'm your daughter after all. Wait a minute.
- I didn't add any sugar.
- Don't worry. Did I ask you to come here? Why did you come here? You should come believing in yourself You should have confidence
in your own abilities. If you don't believe in yourselves,
how will others believe in you? Jeevan is on line. If you depend on me again,
I'll beat you all. Now go! Yes, Jeevan? Hurry! Here's 50 rupees
for your birthday. Don't tell your parents.
Buy whatever you want. - Anything?
- Yes She's nine today. Remember we decided to tell her
the tru
th on her ninth birthday. This evening, not now. You'll have to tell her.
I don't have the guts. What did you ask God to grant you? A big ask! To transfer my Tamil teacher
to another department. What about you? You take her out. Come on. I'll tell you a true story. But don't ask me to suggest
a good ending to you. This is not a story...it's about you,
Amudha. I know. I'm 9 now. If I behave badly... ...talk back to my teachers... ...or whine about my mother,
or... ...hide my maths marks... You're
not our daughter. If I behave badly, you'll send me
to live in the hostel. Amudha, listen! You're not our daughter. If I behaved badly, I wouldn't be. You weren't born to Indira and me. Indira didn't give birth to you. We adopted you when you were a baby. Come here. We love you more than we love ourselves. Akhil, Vinay? They were born to us. What's wrong with Amudha? Is she sick? - She doesn't look well.
- Where are Akhil and Vinay? They're playing downstairs.
What's wrong with Amudha? We've to
ld her. How foolish! Why tell her now? - We had to tell her someday.
- But why today? - So when?
- When she's 80. I mean she's not mature enough
to understand. Do want her to grow upon lies? What can I say?
Do whatever you like. It's better we tell her than she hears it
from someone else. Don't worry. Don't worry. You look beautiful when you're worried. Ma, aren't Akhil and Vinay like me? No. I gave birth to them. Why did you tell me I looked like you? You do. Look at my hand. I'm not as fair as
you. You may or may not understand me,
but listen to me. Nothing has changed... ...in your father's and my feelings
for you. Or Akhil's and Vinay's.
Nothing has changed. Have you told them, Ma? No. Don't tell them.
They'll hit me. No one will hit you. Did you find me in a dustbin? Who are my parents? - We are.
- Will you send me away? Silly girl! We thought you should know. That's why we told you. Why did you tell me now, Ma?
You could've told me later. Bye! See you in the dance class. - Is Amu
dha in class?
- You are...? Her grandfather. Where is she? That's what I want to know. Didn't she attend class? Chitra, where is Amudha?
What happened? She was throwing up. I sent her
to the toilet. She didn't come back. Any problems at home?
Did anyone scold her? You should be more careful. I'm going to inform the police
commissioner. - He's from my village.
- His daughter studies here. Don't try intimidating me,
Mr Ganesan. Why don't you call home? She might have gone home
with a friend or a r
elative. Don't worry. Did Amudha say anything in class
today? No, she was very quiet The teacher scolded her because
she hadn't prepared her notes. She threw up and so the
teacher sent her to the toilet. - Did my sister Amudha come here?
- No. Is my sister Amudha here? - Is Amudha here?
- No. - Is my sister Amudha here?
- Have you seen her? What happened? Have you told Amudha? I said not to. But who listens? They read psychology magazines
and... Maybe you shouldn't have. Where's Thiru? He's look
ing for her. Amudha? And you are? Give her the phone, please. She's at the Perambur Railway Station. Amudha? Sweetie, why did you run away? Are you okay? I'm on my way. Don't be scared. Put the police officer on the phone. Sir, we're coming very soon. Stay with her till we do, please. When you see Amudha, don't ask her
too many questions. Hug her, kiss her.
Save the questions for later. GK, have I ever told you how
to bring up your children? He's your brother-in-law,
the head of a company. He pu
t aside his work to be with you. I'm very grateful to him. But I don't
need any advice. Why are you crying? We know where she is. I just feel like it. Why does it bother you?
Keep your eyes on the road. Didn't I take good care of her? I did.
