Knox Co. Board of Education member seated hours after primary election win

tonight from candidate to sitting School Board member in less than 24 hours the super Tuesday results we're watching include the district 8 Schoolboard race Travis Wright won his head-to-head matchup against Tommy linol T news reporter V siml joined us to explain why that one race underlines the immediate impact of local elections Ben Robin John the man who held that seat Mike McMillan died in January it's been vacant ever since Democrats didn't have a candidate in the primary so to today the Kn
ox County Commission voted to have right take the seat on the school board 6 months early the next Schoolboard meeting is tomorrow so he'll have to get up to speed and be ready to vote quickly as he was sworn in he told us school security and parental rights are important to him we asked about some of the more contentious issues before the school board like book banss and third grade retention I don't really have enough knowledge to make comments on those right now they're going to try to get me
up to speed um especially with things going on for the meeting tomorrow night a couple of the races in Knox County were close the Republican race for County Commissioner in parts of East and downtown Knoxville is separated by five votes the primary for property assessor has a 12 vote margin those races aren't final yet because election workers have about 71 provisional ballots across all Races five for the District One races these are ballots for people who election workers couldn't decide on E
lection Day whether the vote should count on Friday election officials will decide how many of those were legally cast and can be counted those could affect some of these close races the election administrator says usually about half of the provisional ballots end up being counted Robin John a reminder every vote counts vet thank you tenness
