story that's new tonight we're getting much more information about the steps that Albuquerque police are taking in an effort to clean up Central the Avenue has become really Infamous for Crime for decades now Monica lonio joins me from our Newsroom so Monica APD did give you an update on an operation they have so what are they really focused on well Trevor for this specific operation APD is focusing on drugs and guns along the central Corridor the department says its Central narcotics unit and g
un violence suppression unit have been working together on the operation since January now in the last hour we got this lapel video of the arrest of Charles Casas you can see police were starting to put down a spike belt but Casas crashed his car before they could then you see the officer run to the car and hear hear him tell Casas to get out of it this arrest is part of an operation involving the narcotics and VI gun violence suppression units they've been going undercover along different parts
of Central in this operation officers had been tracking Casas for dealing drugs on Central and Sano back in February APD Commander Jeff Bernard says the person in the car Casas crashed into is okay Casas had four felony warrants as and was booked on aggravated flee from a law enforcement officer but APD says when they searched his car they found two Firearms one of which was an automatic and had a silencer Chief Harold Medina says APD is seeing more guns like these on the streets they also foun
d a lot of ammo and a ton of drugs that includes more than 3,200 fentanyl pills more than a pound of and a half of meth 39 G of heroin and 35 gram of cocaine in another operation police arrested Daniel saiz who was AR who had a warrant out for robbery related charges they found a gun a lot of ammo and gun parts and 149 fentanyl pills at his home now the gun that They seized is also they ran it through the national integrated ballistics information system and they found seven hits now today's new
s conference Chief Medina explained why he believes the operation has been a success I think there's several things that are making it successful uh number one we have great technology that is helping us pinpoint locations number two we have very hardworking officers who are motivated APD says they will continue to the the operations along the central Corridor in fact today Medina says they plan to expand those operations to include Louisiana and manal Trevor back to you

I appreciate APD, but our City leaders have let us down. Too little too late. Drive up and down Central and see all the boarded up businesses. More to come, too. How can any business thrive, much less stay open, with all the craziness. From San Mateo to Tramway. Side streets, too. If they truly wanted to make a difference, they could, but they don't. Notice all of the brand new Apartments going up? Interesting how that happens. The Fentanyl has been an issue for years. Why now?

@mbrain03

No way they have been finding more guns like this, Gov Michelle said we couldn’t have guns

@michaeldesanta953

The democrat judge will let him go.

@AmandaTexas

Is he out already?

@rudolphserrano3976

Uuuuhhh Silencer 20 years in federal.

@sendo427

No one drives on Central because you guys ruined it with those stupid ass buses that are not even making any money.

@eliasvalenzuela329

A machine gun and a silencer??? That should be mandatory Federal Prison

@_DB.COOPER

@BUY_YOUTUB_VIEWS_331

Your video quality is top-notch, and your personality shines through. Love it!

@NelbertJoe

Screen the city streets

@SLAAA__

APD is a joke 😂😂😂

@MikeMcgrath-yr7ge

If APD needs some help I am available. The "progressive" mayor is finally letting them do some policing, he must have an election coming up.

@eddielwilson6531

Na he'll be out in 72 hrs
