You can see the bullet holes... bullet marks... Many of people that you see around me could be spies in civil dress. It was a Passport Office. [SPEAKING ARABIC] I tried to know how much someone earns here after graduating. Hello Everyone! I welcome all of you in this video. I'm your buddy Paramvir. I'm in a city on the of Syria, Aleppo. As I told you in previous videos that Aleppo is one of the oldest cities of the world. And it was 3rd largest city of Ottoman Empire after Istanbul and Cairo. It
is my 3rd day in Syria and 1st day in Aleppo. Seeing all these buildings you can guess that how bad the war has affected Syria. Aleppo is very famous for Pistachio. And I spotted many trees of Pistachio here. People evacuated many towns and villages because of destructions occurred there. Aleppo is also very famous for it's soaps. You must would have seen in my Lebanon Series, there I told you that Tripoli, Lebanon and Aleppo, Syria are known for their soaps. Aleppo Citadel is called the Mother
of Citadels. And the Souk(Market) of Aleppo was the largest in the world before war. It was also demolished in the war. That's the citadel (Castel). We ordered this Chicken Burger. I must say that food in Syria is amazing, no matter what you order. I like it. Aleppo was very beautiful and many tourists used to come here before war. All these destructions happed here after 2011 in the war. Between 2012-16 current regime faced defeat here by different militias and groups. Till 2016 Aleppo was in
militias rule. People started leaving the city. Aleppo's population was more than Damascus but many people evacuated the city. You can guess the severity of loss that locals had to face. People had to leave their properties to survive. Each and every building here has bullet holes on them. Only the new constructed building don't have any damage. Evidence of blasts too The have started renovation but it will never be the same. This city was known in the world for its beauty. But now it looks piti
ful. It is sold for $25. Sharukh Khan... (Indian Movie Star) This use to be a hospital in Ottoman time. As I told you Aleppo was 3rd largest city of Ottoman Empire after Istanbul and Cairo. I'm going towards the citadel. There are some cafes on the way. There are many kids...May be they are on school trip. [SPEAKING ARABIC] Couple of guys approached me for a photo. Their English was good. He said what are you doing in a war zone. They said, they never saw any Indian here. All this is for you, my
viewers! I was trying to come here for 2.5 years. Finally I'm here after so much of effort, time and money. This building in front of me used to be the Police Headquarters. There was a Hamam Bath(special type of Arabic bath) too. All of it is history now. [SPEAKING ARABIC] They offer hot coffee to you and don't even expect money in return. I had 2-3 coffees, since I came here. They use the same cup to serve coffee to different people, still I accepted because they were very polite... Couldn't d
eny for long... They say that from citadel you can have amazing view of Aleppo. So, we are going to the citadel. Ticket for one costs 2000 SYP i.e. ~ $ 0.60 This is the entrance. They engraved snakes on the top to scare enemies. In Arabic they have written about there victories on Armenians and Byzantines. Just like forts in India, straight pathway ended and turned here. This is done strategically so that they can attack on enemy troop by arrow, boiling oil, rocks,... Although this citadel was b
uild in 3rd millennium BC but the gate were rebuilt in 13th century. You can see president's portrait, right after entering. You will see his portrait at almost all the places in Syria. You can imagine how weird it would be for us to imagine the same in our countries. This is a prison from Ottoman and French time. There was a special Mosque which was used for prayer only on Fridays. Fridays are public holiday in Syria. They go for special prayer on Fridays. So there were two Mosques there. Small
er one was used on normal days and the special-big one was used on Fridays. Citadel was destroyed in the war so they are reconstructing it. This is an Amphitheatre... This is Aleppo city. Fabulous! You can see many demolished buildings. Evidence of Romeos of Syria... Visit to any fort is incomplete unless you spot some couples. This is sheep fur, it will be used to make jackets. Mostly all the motorcycles here are like this. With 100-120 cc engines. You will find only Chinese and Japanese motorc
ycles in Syria. They cost around $450. Currently they can only afford these motorcycles. There's another one. We have entered Al-Medina Souk now. I know it is not completely functional. But I would like to tell you about this souk(market). Market is called Souk in Arabic. There used to be shops... That's the entrance and these are first few shops. This souk was 13km long. And during civil war it was destroyed. You could find anything in this Souk. Anything you can imagine you could find here. Th
ere were thousands of shops. But now nothing is left. This market is destroyed completely. The man's shop did not even have an electricity connection. Seems like couples favorite spot. If you have seen my Lebanon series, in one of those video I went to a souk in Tripoli. There also Souks were like this. Shops on the ground floor and place to stay above them. Traders use the rooms above the shops to store goods or rest at night. The shops... all the shop has some space to stay on them... Traders
used to stay in these rooms for 3-4 days. Aleppo is the last city connected by silk route. So it used to get many traders. All the shops were destroyed but the ceiling is still intact. But here the ceiling is also not there. Once it was used to trade Silver, Gold, Oil , Textile, Coffee,...,etc. It was a trade hub in Ottoman Empire but in recent years also it was known in nearby countries for shopping. After 2011 when Civil War started here situation went out of control and all the destructions h
appened. Right now they can't reconstruct the whole market because economy of this country also got affected. They have reconstructed 100 m of the souk. We will see that area. 100m is nothing if compared with 13km, but still it's good. All these shops got hit in the war. It's seems like the souk was destroyed 300-400years ago but that's not true. It happened in last 3-4 years You can see the bullet holes everywhere. There also... You can see the bullet holes here. I guess these were fired from t
his direction. Somebody shot from here and impacted this spot and thus, you can see the outcome. You can see the bullet marks on the wall. Here... It's everywhere. My trip to Syria is extreme and sad. If you have a light heart you can't meander around. War is terrible. When I stroll around here I see many people physically disabled or handicapped which I cant show on camera. Some with singe leg, or hand, or no legs... Nothing is left here too. People are living with disabilities that they got in
the war. Around 3 million citizens of Syria have some kind of disability. And around 5 million people kids were born in the war. They have not seen anything but war... By seeing this part you can imagine how amazing the whole souk would have been. It is just 100 m that got reconstructed. There are very few shops currently... People are afraid that this souk may be destroyed again. We should commend individuals of Syria because of their attempt to have a blissful existence, despite the fact that
their condition isn't great. Whenever someone offers them something they instead try to give them something from their side. And Syrian food is the best food I've ever had... Indian, Turkish, Lebanese...no other food can withstand the quality against theirs. As I told you before, Aleppo is very popular for it's soaps... My guide told me that he had many friends in this souk. Some used to sell Pistachio, some nuts, some coffee... in these shops. I'm still outsider but I can't imagine the amount
of grief that locals must face coming here. Syria's economy is in crisis. More than 60% of the citizens are jobless. More than 50%of the citizens don't have food to eat. Most of the hospitals are not functional. 70%-80% of all the power stations got difunctional during Civil War. So many place doesn't have electricity. Their currency got weak. I tried to know how much someone earns here after graduating. I was shocked to know this that the amount is $30-$40 per month. This amount is worth nothin
g. In Fact I had a chat with a guy who was selling boiled chic peas. He was talking in great English. He told me that he is engineer but couldn't find a job so he had to sell on street. Aleppo is huge... Everyone greets me. They are humble. Aleppo is huge... [TALKING ABOUT FAMOUS INDIAN MOVIE STAR] and spread over 200 sq km. You can find people of different religious beliefs and ethnicities here. Arabs, Kurdish, Turkmen, Armenians, Assyrian, even some Greek and Russian people. So, it used to be
a cosmopolitan city. Arabic is the most dominant language here. 80%-90% people speak Arabic. But many also speak Kurdish, Turkish and Assyrian language. If we talk about religions, there were Muslims with majority of 80%-90% further divided into Shia and Sunni. Rest were mostly Christians. But I can't tell the current data, there was no official survey after war. I guess many of the Christians migrated to Europe, Turkey...after the war started. Although, there were very good bonding between Musl
ims and Christians here. But when the war starter all the minorities like Christians, Jews, Druze, Kurdish people all of them stood against the regime. Then relations never became like before between different communities. And many Christians had to leave the country. It was a Passport Office of Aleppo. This is Sheraton Hotel. They rebuilt it. That is Hotel Riga Palace, one of the most famous in Aleppo. I read about it during my research. We will stay here tonight. Fabulous! Did you notice the
contrast between buildings outside and this hotel. Ironical... There are some markets in Aleppo's city center. After whatever they have faced during last 10 years didn't make them lose faith from humanity. They always try to provide to people. We tried to offer some food to a kid who needed it, but he denied to take. This was Syria's first modern hotel. It is not functional currently. Before this hotel, traders and travelers used to stay on the top of shops. This was built in 1909. And this was
2nd modern style hotel in whole Levantine Region. First was established in ~1890s in Baalbek, Lebanon. They are not operating this hotel. There are A.C.s but all rusted. I don't think this hotel was attacked in the war but I guess it must have played major role in shutting down this hotel. You can say Aleppo is a bit on the conservatives side not like Damascus. You can see girls in modern clothes in Damascus but here all of them prefer to wear Hijab. They never show skin in public. One more thin
g that became norm that you can't say or do anything against the government. In fact, there are separate jails for political prison. So those who try to stand against the government, they are prisoned. So, even if you are a foreigner travelling in this country, don't dare to speak against the government. Many of people that you see around me could be spies in civil dress. Their job is to point out individuals who show disrespect to the regime. So, it's good for me to be very careful while speaki
ng. I would suggest not to discuss these type of things with any locals also because it can create problem for him too. They may leave you because you're a foreigner but they will make sure to teach a lesson to the local. So, always keep this in mind. In Syrian Civil War more than 550,000 people lost their lives and many became refugees. Just in Aleppo 30-35k people died. These numbers are official, there must me many deaths that never got counted. Number of people who lost their homes or got ph
ysically disabled is enormous. There are many things I still need to show you in the next video... This is my 3rd day in Syria. I'm here for 4-5 more days. I'll visit Holms, Damascus, Palmyra, ... and film it. Will mention all these facts in those videos too. I've put a lot of effort in making these videos. It's risky too... If you like watching these videos then I would appreciate if you can show that too. You can follow me on Instagram to get live updates. I'm gonna put my phone in pocket beca
use all of them are staring at me. Yeah Boy! I'm buying Shawarma from here. As I said before they serve well. How are you? [IN HINDI] How are you, good? [IN HINDI] Yes, I'm good. [IN HINDI] What about you? [IN HINDI] Yes, brother! [IN HINDI] Holms is the 3rd largest city of Syria. He is not taking money.

This series is far far better than any other country tour. No fancy environment, no high quality life. Very simple living between the war zone and still smile on face.
