[Applause] on the third season of the hit sitcom Abid Elementary Lisa and Walter busy getting laughs in and out of the classroom take a look oh Melissa I think that man wants to socialize with you I would hope so he ate the last of my cereal this morning what he was at your house girl was there a fire you dating this man no we're not dating they're hooking up jaob now I is the second C well how did I not know about this or me because there's nothing to know except maybe the walls in my place are
thinner than I thought Jacob wow please welcome the most fabulous Lisa and [Applause] wal hi hi Honey hi I'm so sorry you guys she's been singing your Praises well we go back whoopy was the star of my very first movie Eddie and she uh handpicked me out of obscurity to be her coar the hair am I embellishing yes oh my gosh oh my God hair so much hair so much hair so much we did a whole scene in Barney's and do you know this a hand of God I don't even know if you remember this you were supposed to
be trying on clothes it was for a montage the movie Eddie she plays a coach coach of the Knicks and so she's going to level up and trying on clothes we hung out in Barney with her changing in and out of everything bra everything for like 6 hours just like girlfriends yeah we were have we had a great time also she's a great poker player I used to play poker at my house you just cuz I took your money you know when you're good you're good well also you took I'm so sorry hi ladies this one I had a
terrible breakup with a guy who uh he was cheating like it was religion and um and I was called her sobbing sobbing you don't like him no no he's the devil but she just she said I want you to come to my house I will take care of you and she told me and I said I don't know if I could see the drive and she was like go up here she gave me directions and I went there and she literally took care of me she put on a treadmill cuz you had a not a treadmill a bike a bike and we and we worked out to it's
not right but it's okay memories very generous continue I love wait one more thing one more thing I have to tell you this young lady it it I'm so pleased that finally she is getting her shot this is one of the funniest women I mean for years we can take a step back leaping back to these years cuz you started out in theater but then you moved to a really successful career in standup comedy yeah well when I moved to New York to be an actress that's what you did you studied and then you came here a
nd some of us made it big right off the bat and some of us got pregnant immediately and um and I figured after that it was standup was a big boom in those days this is the 80s and so I figured if I can make a human being I could do anything and I got on a stage and started talking about the stuff that women experienced cuz I kept hearing men telling their stories about having babies and I'm like you don't know so I was like I can do this and I got real famous real fast doing standup but then the
y offered you TV shows and I came out came out to LA and with a little poker on the side you're here today exactly but this I'm serious so generous who was dragged me on stage with her for the end of comic comic relief and I just went to visit her and she like come on stage for the finale I'm like I wasn't in the show and speaking up about what's important has always been a thing for you it's always been come naturally to you since you were a kid we love that here okay we love that at this table
speaking up about what's important but how did that start for you how did it uh manifest I grew up in DC and and I had um my sister and I were iish twins a year apart our neighbors were the same and the same age so there were four of us girls about the same age running around like Hooligans all over the neighborhood and we took it upon ourselves we were very involved and active I had a poster of shirely Chisum on my wall I I walked in the marches downtown um Civil Right marches erra marches fro
m when I was little by the way erra still not passed hi hi America hi oh hi it still has a past I'm on the ER Coalition now and I was guarantees women equal rights we still don't have it and a lot of people don't know that young women don't know that they're like what what now yeah let me ask you about Abbott Elementary right because it's just so fantastic You' got yeah I mean come on it's fantastic it's in its third season the show has won Emy Golden Globes recently uh two NAACP image Awards an
d fans and critics just we love it more than ever before um it makes people feel good I think it does what's the experience been like for you well I mean like what you I hear you say those things and I get goosebumps because I watch I am a part of arguably I think the best Ensemble comedy cast on television every single well the Emmy said so yeah and I mean Tyler James Williams who was on here and you guys were talking about me and I saw it and started crying immediately and texted him the most
generous young man and with the famous side eye and he does he gives the camera a really good take but he also is super smart he grew up in the business so he knows everything like literally we're sitting there there Cheryl and I gossiping over what dress we're going to wear to the next thing and he's like well they're going to tighten the shot right now so he's going to come around this way give a look the camera go over here and he's just so so smart Chris Peretti who came up in theater and Ch
eryl who's a legend everybody Janelle James nobody knew Janelle and she is behind she is fabulous fabulous right and everybody went where's she been and of course quenta who is um a miracle she the fact that she had such a Clear Vision which doesn't always happen there are people in charge that are like well maybe this is the show oh the network said this the network and the studio ABC and Warner Brothers got behind this young black woman and said she knows this world let her write it and she di
d and I think that's the result we get is it's not it's it's a diverse show obviously but everybody loves it because we've all either been a kid in school we are you know teachers or we're parents that have kids in we can all relate so and she got all you Stars so and she did she had that eye and also I will say she she put a crew together of the nicest people in the world so CU she's nice I have to ask about the Beloved parent tra from 1998 you played Chessie um how why did this movie still res
onate so many years later and what was it like to be part of that well I mean it's it's gr gosh look at me um wearing Chessie core with no makeup chesse you know so funny is I was so young then and people assumed that I was the nanny character so when they saw me 20 years later they're like why don't why don't you look like thma Ritter your cat's name I remember why don't you have the the tight gray curly hair and I was just I was 30 and so they but I was that that character and in my head I've
always been that character I think that people love it because it's a movie that kids love um there's a kid who's a star who becomes powerful takes matters into her own hands with a very improbable premise oh the parents split up identical twins but we still root for them right nuts um but but also it's a romance I mean Nat beautiful Natasha Richardson and sexy Dennis Quay oh yes who my knees went weak every time I got near him I had to pretend like he wasn't hot that was the best acting I've ev
er done you know I can't say it enough you are one of the best best of the best thank you and thank so much this happening is just magnificent our thanks to Lisa and Walter A Elementary airs Wednesday nights at 98 Central right here on a and streams the next day on Hulu

Lisa Ann could be the daughter of Joy, the mannerism, humor and for sure the red hairs.

@Monika-mh2je

And they didn't mentioned, but Lisa won the celebrity Jeopardy. She's smart too. Congratulations for everything, well deserved. 😊

What a great interview. Lisa W. is very funny. I loved her stories about Whoopi supporting her. Really great. I am glad she is finally getting the recognition that she deserves. I am a fan of Abbott Elementary.

@shashavengesayi6055

I remember watching Lisa for the first time in the Parent Trap. She was such a great supporting actress in that movie, and as Whoopi said, I'm really happy she's finally getting her big moment.

@Sassyellechica

She really is apart of one of the best ensemble casts. I ❤ Abbott, I can't go with missing an episode. Best show on network t.v this far

She and Whoopi started talking as if no one else was in the room. 😂 She's loved on Abbott Elementary and Whoopi knows everyone. ❤

@abbysberry

Whoopi had such ease about herself in this I haven’t seen in a long time

@lightworks3172

I forgot L.A.W. was in Eddie! That was my favorite movie as a kid. I was one of the only black families in my town, and the librarian introduced me to Whoopi Goldberg movies at the library. Eddie was one of my favorites!

@lindawilliams429

Joy could definitely play her Mom on Abbott Elementary!!❤❤

@BroadwayBabyyy744

If ever they make Joy's life story Lisa Ann is the best choice.
