i had a long time friend from college who was from here so i visited for the first time in december 2015. and after literally the first day i was like this is where i want to live hands down hands down an expression super commune in this thousand hands down i remember i went to a bar or a club once in medellin when i just arrived here and we went out and they sat us down at this table we went out went out los americanos for that we went out we went out went out espe es el pasado de go out salir

salir and we went out and they sat us down at this table and he was in a cantina so they started playing music and we had just gotten our beers and i started sipping on my beer and then they put on this song and the whole table just stood up and started dancing and like like said to me hey kelly you gotta go up and dance now i'm like oh please let me finish my beer you know one beer at least you know yeah so yeah they know how to have a good time they know how to have a good time i love that tha

t's so cool so i mean to answer your question of like why i came here i've always wanted to have an abroad living experience uh in latin america yeah like spanish was always the i always had this affinity to like latin culture and spanish yeah so um and i knew that after i graduated was like the best time to do it so i went to college with a lot of um colombians ecuadorans and dominicans okay and by the second year of my college time i was the president of our latino organization awesome imagine

a gringa being the president of the latino organization so awesome i got to know the latino population on campus a lot and i just you know dove head head first with my study abroad and just i dove head first this is my expression needles to dive first el pasado dove first head first pasado you know dove head head first with my study abroad and just said hey like i just really want to live abroad after i graduated medellin was just checking off all my boxes i mean medellin cuando algo is that ch

be like that so um but i do like for instance how they are very family oriented yeah um and you're sorry to interrupt your family they're all in the u.s um yeah yeah sisters brothers mom dad i take that back one i have an older sister and a younger sister so i'm in the middle of three girls my older sister lives in bali in bali indonesia yeah she's a surfer no she's a yoga instructor oh yeah it was either a yoga instructor um so yeah she's the only sister that like lives abroad but all my famil

an add something to that that might sound a little controversial but english or languages in general is not intellectual things so if you want to learn learning a language is not like learning mathematics so mathematics is an intellectual topic whereas you need to understand you need to make connections in your brain yeah and that's you know if you're smart it's easier if you're not so smart it's super super hard whereas with languages it is more a question of exposure and repetition and acquiri

ng new vocabulary so you know there are 300 million americans something like that okay and there are amazing people like you and all those amazing entrepreneurs that build huge companies in the us but there are also a lot of crazy people in in america and all of them speak perfect english so it basically tells us that it's not an intellectual thing it's just a it's so we don't need to punish ourselves with the thought that oh i'm bad at english or i'm stupid or we don't need to punish ourselves

with the thought that we're stupid no tenemos que castigar nos a nosotros mismos con el pensamiento so we don't need to punish ourselves with the thought that oh i'm bad at english or i'm stupid or i'm just as slow because it's just a matter like it's it's it's just the fact that you just haven't exposed yourself enough to the language you haven't studied enough and your mistakes is basically proof of that it's just basically that so if you if you think if or if you feel that you're not good at

english or you're not talented enough always go back to that thought and think you know what i am smart i'm smart enough i learned my first language i can learn any language it's just a matter of exposure yeah and i also want to mention and add something that i love because i i also want to mention i also want to mention wanna es want to tambien quiero means and i also want to mention and add something that i love because i tell myself and i always say this to my audience as well i don't want to

be perfect at spanish you know why because if i am perfect at spanish so perfect that anyone who meets me with spanish spanish muy americano pronunciation me with immediately think i'm latina it it actually kind of takes away from allowing others to see how mistakes are vital and it puts up this like image that um is not always attainable by everybody i want to be always um relatable yeah in my process because i did learn it from zero i don't have one drop of latino blood or any family members

that helped me out you know like this was um due to my own efforts yeah right this was due to my own efforts esto fue gracias amis propios esos yeah and i kind of like you know i i have sort of like improved my spanish a lot and it was fun back when i was you know struggling a lot creating sentences because people are like you're very very exotic yeah it was more like an ego thing you know they wanted like perfection's not not not um not realistic yeah and we should never try to even attain perf

t gin tonic all over her dress oh my gosh because i wanted to show something with my hands and like i did this and this old entire glass just fell over her lap it was so embarrassing but it went well so it's memorable it's memorable you know there you go those are awesome experiences i have lots of stories you know times that i messed up and it just makes for a good story to mess up to mess up holes i have a lot of times when i've messed up experience i have lots of stories you know times that i
