We are in Malta If you're looking for a warm winter destination  in Europe then this video is for you. Welcome to Malta, a Mediterranean gem that dazzles  all year round. With its rich history, stunning architecture and vibrant culture,  Malta is a wonderful destination for anyone seeking unforgettable experiences.  In this video we are sharing how we explored this charming country  in the winter month of February. If you're new here, Welcome. We are Sakshi  ,DJ and little Pixie. We share our tr
avel and vegetarian food explorations from London,  the UK and around the world hoping you'll find your next food or travel inspiration here. Hi  folks and thanks for tuning in. We are in Malta in the month of February to enjoy a few warm and  sunny winter days. When we say warm of course it's relative cuz it's warmer where we come from  that is London and of course warmer compared to other European destinations as well. It's  not warm enough to go into the water just yet, it's really cold but o
therwise it's a very  pleasant 15 to 16° on an average. You can easily be in a light jacket when it's windy  and you don't even need that, you can easily be in a T-shirt If it's it's not windy and sunny  like today. If you know us you know that we like to travel slow and because we are here only for  three full days we didn't try to pack too much into the trip. But Malta has a lot to offer and  you can easily spend 5 to 7 days here because there's a lot to see and do here. Of course in  this vlo
g we are going to share how we explored Malta in our first time here. Valetta is where we  spent the most time and in the first part of the video we'll share all the things we saw and did  in the capital. We'll also share where we stayed and give you a room tour. In part two of the video  we'll share where we went and what we did outside of the capital. We'll also be sharing useful  tips and tricks throughout the video so make sure you follow along. Lastly, we have shared  all this information i
n a blog post as well, the link to which is in the description box  below. We stayed at The Embassy Valetta hotel right in the heart of the city making it easy  to get around on foot. We booked a deluxe suite which came with a reception room with a sofa  come bed, a large king-size bed in the bedroom, a bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet.  The room didn't offer much in terms of a view but it did have a stunning rooftop bar and restaurant  and a heated rooftop swimming pool with city vi
ews which made up for it. Spending time in the pool  and catching sunsets from the rooftop was was an enjoyable activity in itself and a great way  to unwind after a full day of sightseeing. Now let's move on to the things to do and see in  the capital, Valetta. Being in Valetta feels like you've traveled back in time. Take some time  to walk around the narrow winding lanes, sit back at an outdoor table at one of the many cafes or  restaurants, admire the centuries old Baroque buildings with the
hallmark colorful closed  balconies and just be there in the moment. A 30 minutes train ride on this trackless train is a  fun and family-friendly way to tour the beautiful city of Valetta. Starting from the center of the  capital, passing by fortifications and the amazing views of the Grand Harbor this is a unique way to  learn more about the city all for €5 per adult. So Malta is supposed to get sun for 300 days  and from the remaining 65 days we visited for 4 days and out of that one day it'
s raining and  windy, like what are the odds. And now we are heading out to Valetta Palace. A lot of it is  indoor so I think it's a good to-do on a rainy and windy day like this. Originally built in  the 16th century, the palace now serves as the seat of Malta's Parliament and the Office of the  President. You are welcome to explore its opulent Interiors adorned with exquisite tapestries,  intricate frescos and the priceless works of art that offers a glimpse into Malta's past. The  palace is a
bsolutely stunning and is so worth the visit according to us. So the palace was so  beautiful. I don't know how they created such beautiful and magnificent pieces of architecture.  The architecture in all of Malta is actually amazing and no amount of photos or videos are  doing justice to what you'll see with your own eyes. And meanwhile as you can tell the weather  has opened up, it's suddenly blue skies and sunny so we are sitting in this alfresco cafe surrounded  by beautiful architecture soa
king in the vibes and enjoying a cuppa. Some of you might have seen a  lot of cathedrals in your life. After all they are ubiquitous all over Europe but this one is a  masterpiece and quite unlike any other we've come across in the past. The exterior doesn't really  stand out too much but as you step inside prepare to be a struck by the intricate Baroque design  adorned with stunning works of art by celebrated artists. This is one of the most magnificent  Cathedrals we've encountered on our trav
els. Besides it's also a great to-do option on a bad  weather day. Perched atop the city of valetta are the tranquil upper Barrakka Gardens. These gardens  are beautiful with a lovely water fountain, benches to sit on and a small cafe offering some  snacks and beverages too. From the gardens you can enjoy panoramic views of the Grand Harbor,  the fortified walls and the city below. Adjacent to the gardens the Saluting Battery  stands as a testament to Malta's military history. Today you can witn
ess the ceremonial firing  of the cannons twice daily, one at noon and the other one in the afternoon at 4:00 p.m. You  can witness the cannon firing for free from the top of the gardens if you do not wish to enter  the saluting battery. However for just €3 per adult we would suggest being on the platform from  where the cannon is fired for the full experience. Let's move on to the next part of the video where  we venture beyond Valetta. To get around we opted to drive and rented a car from Merl
in Car Hire.  We recommend renting a small car here which is ideal for navigating through the narrow  streets and parking in tight spaces. We went with a Mitsubishi space star which cost us €60  inclusive of insurance and a child seat. Mdina is a medieval town characterized by its narrow  winding streets ancient limestone buildings and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.  For Game of Thrones fans it is also the filming location of Kings Landing from season 1. Once  the capital of Malt
a Mdina invites you to wander through its labyrinthine alleys and explore  its hidden courtyards and landmarks. Or you may choose to tour around on a horse driven  carriage for that added historical charm. Enjoy some cake, cannoli and tea while admiring  the countryside views at a lovely Tea Garden Cafe called Fontanella while you're  here. Just across Mdina lies Rabat, another quaint town steeped in history. Apart from  walking around we chose to tour the town of Rabat and the surrounding area
on a Malta Fun Train  yet again. It was a nice way to rest our legs, learn more about the place and it was a lot  of fun for our little one too. One of Rabat's most notable attractions is St Paul's catacombs,  underground ancient burial chambers dating back to Roman times. You can also explore St Paul's  Church and take a leisurely stroll through the town streets lined with cafes shops and  traditional Maltese houses. Do try the pastizzis at the Crystal Palace Car here. This is an iconic  eatery
that remains open 24/7 on most days. All for 50 cents per piece you can sample hot of the  oven fresh and absolutely delicious pastizzis. The Blue Grotto located on the southern coast  of Malta is a natural wonder renowned for its azure waters and a network of limestone caves.  We wanted to go for a boat tour which takes you over the water and under the caves. However due  to the weather conditions the boat service was unfortunately closed so we settled to admire  it from a panoramic viewpoint
that we could drive up to. The views from here were stunning  and serene, letting us appreciate the coastline views. Marsaxlokk is a traditional fishing  village nestled along the southeastern coast of Malta. It has a harbor and you cannot miss the  traditional luzzu boats painted in bright primary colors that line the sheltered inner harbor.  The village is also known for the Marsaxlokk market which is mainly a large fish market which  takes place along the seafront on Sundays and a tourist mar
ket during all other days of the week.  For those who enjoy Seafood there are plenty of sea facing restaurants to choose from. Here we  took a leisurely stroll alongside the pictures waterfront promenade and the narrow streets of  the village, then we went for a short 25 minutes boat ride around the harbor which was lovely. It  gave us a different vantage point to admire the azure waters of the Mediterranean and soak in  the views. Longer duration boat rides are also available that will take you
around the harbor and  natural attractions such as the St Peters's Pool. So there you have it. This was how we spent  our time in Malta in the winter. As you would have noticed we didn't venture to the islands  of Gozo and Camino leaving that for a future visit. Overall we had a splendid time in Malta and  would love to revisit someday.
