Maryland Bridge Collapse Could impact Spring Break Travel Plans

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge has prompted concerns about potential disruptions to spring break travel plans in Maryland. Drivers are being asked to avoid Interstate 695 southeast corridor, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA) said. With detours of I-95 and I-895 in place, AAA is advising travelers to reconsider their plans and prepare for possible delays. yeah a lot of important information there all right thank you McKenzie and of course this port isn't just important when it comes to cargo ships it is also significant regarding the cruise line industry and at a critical time spring break underway our Tom Rousey is also live in Baltimore tonight and Tom you talk with someone from tripa actually on a cruise having to rearrange travel due to all of this yeah we interviewed her from the ship and you'll hear from her in just a moment Scott of course
this is also affecting Travelers going by car as well because if they wanted to use this section of 695 as you can see there is not one car on it instead if you look over the other direction you'll see where police are forcing folks to get off a short distance before they would hit what used to be the Key Bridge sailed under the Key Bridge uh pointed it out to our family members we spoke with Regina Ali after her cruise ship docked in the Bahamas she left Baltimore Sunday on Carnival on Tuesday
and I happen to turn on the TV and our cabin and it's like did a double take and like why is Maryland news on her ship will now have to return to norfol instead of Baltimore with bus service being offered back to Maryland Regina is actually a spokesperson for AAA and the loss of the Key Bridge happened during a busy travel period I know this cruise is full um lots of people here on spring break Trav not just for Marland and Baltimore that also means a lot of people are driving through Baltimore
on trips North to places like New York and South to places like Florida so we know there's going to be a lot of traffic going both ways on Interstate 95 Regina's AAA cooworker Morgan Dean says losing the Key Bridge will make that traffic worse so I think for folks that are trying to get in that spring break travel that are always expecting you know kind of backups and delays on I95 maybe seeing something much bigger than they even expected Dean says the loss of the keybridge will force a lot of
vehicles onto either I95 or 895 both of which have tunnels that go under the papsco river the keybridge saw an average of 31,000 Vehicles a day 895 sees 77,000 and 95 in Baltimore sees 168,000 per state numbers with 95 and 895 now expected to get more congested plan out your trip could we do it overnight could we do it late in evening could we do it after the morning commute but before the evening commute when volumes might be a little bit less all right so when could the Key Bridge be rebuilt
and when could this section of 695 East of where I am on what's called quarantine Road reopen well we're told by Governor West Moore's office he was briefed on just some early preliminary ideas for rebuilding the bridge and also on traffic mitigations but the governor's office at this point hasn't told us what he was actually told in that briefing about all that reporting live in Baltimore I'm Tom Rousey 7 News

The fact that this made it on the news is testimony enough that America is doomed. I’ve sacrificed so many vacations to squirrel away money for retirement; plan ahead….”make hay while the sun shines” things my parents taught me… I hope the northeast part of America pulls its collective head out and thinks about what’s actually important.

@quarstrongforce

No more party on the bridge!

@raid55

no more taking them to the bridge!
