back to Midwest access you know I love these historic river towns like Hastings and there's one place in the historic downtown that if you want to come and and hear some great music periodically great comedy and experience phenomenal beer you got to check out this place it's called spiral Brewery come on with me let's check it out and wow when you come into this incredible space you immediately smell something roasting we're going to talk about that in just a minute The Roasting grains kind of i
mportant for this beer but it's really a space that is got this sense of History the pictures on the walls meeting really modern funky things back here and also a sense of a community a space where people can come together and enjoy some great beer and friendship and fellowship here is one of the owners yes hi welcome to spiral Brewery thank you for being here um we opened in April of 2018 so we're about to be 6 years old wow we're thrilled we're really excited and we're just we just keep doing
what we're doing we're Brewing every day so you are Brewing every day and that's what's happening so I came in here you're smelling the grains that are being uh roasted or how what's that process yeah yeah so the grain that we use comes pre- roasted um and then we we Mill it in we put it in some hot water we make it whirl poool and then we um send that hot water over to our Kettle we add some things we put bring it to the fermenters we add yeast and we make beer and the the spent grain that you'
re smelling right now that Morgan is mucking out is actually um being sent to a local Farmer for his cows oh great yeah so that's able to be used and kind of recycled correct um what is when people come in and talk about your beer what is so special about your beer that's you know worthy of a trip coming here I love that question um we love doing traditional Styles really well so we never want to like reinvent the wheel we just want to make really good beer that makes you want to have another on
e and what's special about this um Brewery and this business is it's women-owned it is and it's not only women-owned it's women operated most of our staff and employees who are full-time are female identified and we're really proud of that we have our head Brewer Morgan Smith who has um done incredible work for our Brewery and she is she's really brought us into the fold and that's really special especially during uh International women's week and women's History Month to talk about and you also
are tying in with Treasure Island as well talk about uh the the Treasure Island beer yeah so we've been partnering with Treasure Island for a couple years now um they're incredible Community Partners to start out so they support many events and many um nonprofits in our Hastings community and they're just such a treasure to to to know and to have in our in our community um so a couple years ago we ended up um making a proprietary beer for them and that was the island it's a Session IPA that's t
his pink can and um they actually serve this at all of the bars on the the campus and then also in the outdoor Amphitheater um so you can get the island Session IPA anytime at Treasure Island and then just this last year we created the destination which is a dark logger um we thought it would be good for the fall winter time to get those folks who are not really interested in a lighter beer um to to drink that so it sounds good yes it's wonderful if people want to come here where are you located
