FILM DESCRIPTION: Based on the Holy Scriptures, with additional dialogue by several other hands, The Ten Commandments was the last film directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The story relates the life of Moses, from the time he was discovered in the bullrushes as an infant by the pharoah's daughter, to his long, hard struggle to free the Hebrews from their slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Moses (Charlton Heston) starts out "in solid" as Pharoah's adopted son (and a whiz at designing pyramids, dispensing such construction-site advice as "Blood makes poor mortar"), but when he discovers his true Hebrew heritage, he attempts to make life easier for his people. Banished by his jealous half-brother Rameses (Yul Brynner), Moses returns fully bearded to Pharoah's court, warning that he's had a message from God and that the Egyptians had better free the Hebrews post-haste if they know what's good for them. Only after the Deadly Plagues have decimated Egypt does Rameses give in. As the Hebrews reach the Red Sea, they discover that Rameses has gone back on his word and plans to have them all killed. But Moses rescues his people with a little Divine legerdemain by parting the Seas. Later, Moses is again confronted by God on Mt. Sinai, who delivers unto him the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, the Hebrews, led by the duplicitous Dathan (Edward G. Robinson), are forgetting their religion and behaving like libertines. "Where's your Moses now?" brays Dathan in the manner of a Lower East Side gangster. He soon finds out. DeMille's The Ten Commandments may not be the most subtle and sophisticated entertainment ever concocted, but it tells its story with a clarity and vitality that few Biblical scholars have ever been able to duplicate. It is very likely the most eventful 219 minutes ever recorded to film--and who's to say that Nefertiri (Anne Baxter) didn't make speeches like, "Oh, Moses, Moses, you splendid, stubborn, adorable fool"? No! No, get ready to leave! Hurry! They're going away, moses. The secret's going with them. No one need ever know the shame I've brought upon you. Shame? What change is there in me? Egyptian or hebrew, I am still moses. These are the same hands, the same arms, Same face that were mine a moment ago. A moment ago, you were her son, The strength of egypt. Now you are mine, a slave of egypt. You find no shame in this? If there is no shame in me, How can I feel shame for the woman who bore me... Or t
he race that bred me? Oh, god of my fathers! Moses, what will you do? This is the binding tie... And here I will stay. Moses. To find the meaning of what I am... Why a hebrew... Or any man must be a slave. Put back your things. You are not leaving. Moses... Has she done more for you than I? Will the life she gave you Be more useful in the black pits of slavery? Cannot justice and truth be served better Upon a throne,

God can do things that we can’t even imagine. He can do anything. Praise the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth. 🙏🏽

Even with all the digital technology in today's movies, I still get chills from this; and I'm 60 years old!

@joelsingh3339

I got goosebumps when moses said that Lord of hosts will do battle for us, and water parted. I don't get chills easily from modern movies which has extreme level of vfx, but this movie gives me chills every time I saw these scenes. Praise the Lord in every situation for he is the one who fight battle for us.

Arguably the greatest scene ever captured on film. Even with today's special effects it still reigns supreme.

@guyonabudget5209

Let me tell you this scene never fails to amaze me. This movie was made in the fifties and to do that type of special effects is remarkable even for today. Fantastic!

I would have liked to have seen Moses depart the Red Sea in real life. That will be an awesome sight to see. Today God is still doing amazing things that words cannot comprehend. God is good.
