hello everyone I'm Daniel continuing our best  True Crime documentary Series today we will explore another horrifying case the murder  of Renee Pagel she was brutally murdered with dozens of wounds on her body on August 5th 2006  at her home in courland Township Michigan USA the quiet Town suddenly became chaotic when local  authorities received a nine double one call from Renee pagle's parents Renee Pagel 41 years old  used to be a nurse but she quit her job to teach at a technical center to sp
end more time with her  three children she was discovered on conscious in her bed on August 5th 2006 blood was on her face  her body and all over the walls and ceiling even on the bed where she was lying Renee was attacked  multiple times but one wound particularly stood out to investigators a cut across the palm of her  hand suggesting she had been attacked as she tried to fend off the as salent but did not succeed she  passed away painfully the police quickly arrived at the scene and began inv
estigating the remaining  Clues according to the investigation just 5 days before her death she donated a kidney to the  father of a student who desperately needed it because she had just undergone major surgery she  could not move much and her health was still very weak investigators have questioned whether the  murder knew about her surgery and took advantage of the fact that Renee Pagel was physically  limited during this time to murder her the nie began taking statements from people close to
Renee  her father said he last Saw Renee the night before when he picked the children up at their father's  house about 15 minutes from Rene's house he also spoke to her on the phone that evening calling  to ask about her health after the surgery Rene's father said the most suspicious person in his  daughter's case is her ex-husband because Renee Pagel was going through an acrimonious divorce in  the weeks before she was killed people who knew the couple also said that at first they seemed  lik
e a perfect couple But as time passed things got worse Michael reportedly wanted Renee to work  while he stayed home with the children and the two often argu friends said their problems peaked  in early 2005 when Michael gave Renee divorce papers and Michael doesn't just want the house in  full custody of his children he also wanted Renee to pay him $2,000 a month in alamon but she  did not agree 7 weeks before her death Renee Pagel was in court with her ex-husband because  the two could not agr
ee on the terms of their divorce the Court ruled in favor of Renee Pagel  she won the case that her ex-husband had to pay her monthly Alamar although Mike Pagel was the  initial suspect in the case there was not enough evidence to directly link him to the murder when  authorities obtained a search warrant from Mike pagle's home they could not find anything there  to identify him at the crime scene the murder weapon in the case has not been found yet Mike  pagle's mother told police that he was w
as at home playing with the children the night of the  murder when the police informed Mike Pagel about the death of his ex-wife he did not even react  but just gave the police a business card and on it was the phone number of a lawyer the weeks  that passed after Rene's murder quickly turned to months and years with no answers and no new  leads for investigators the case gradually fell into a deadlock when no more useful Clues  were found and it grew quiet in the years after Renee Pagel died bu
t her loved ones were  still devoted to finding out what happened it was not until nearly 14 years after Renee pagle's  death that a new clue of appeared that helped the truth of the case gradually be revealed Renee  pagle's close friend Chris crle ran a website to preserve her memory and gather useful clues  for his friend's case through this website in November 2019 Mike pagle's brother Chris Bo Pagel  reached out through the site Bo Pagel was one of the suspects in the murder of Renee Pagel b
ecause  he and his sister-in-law who was also the victim did not get along however he was quickly cleared  as a suspect because he had a solid Alibi for the night of Renee pagle's murder Bo Pagel asked  Chris Crandle if they could talk about the case Crandle agreed to Bo pel's request to chat and she  recorded it Bo Pagel details how he became afraid of his brother and he feared he was in danger at  the time he was clear about linking his brother to the murder of Renee Pagel but he hinted that
Mike Pagel had done something terrible in the past Chris crle quickly handed over the recording to  the police and when the police heard the recording they called Bo Pagel in for questioning during  interrogation Bo Pagel admitted that his brother had previously confessed to murder his ex-wife in  2011 he also claimed that Mike Pagel showed him a knife that he said was the murder weapon according  to Bo Pagel Mike Pagel threw the knife into the river Bo wrote a formal statement incriminating  Mi
chael and laid out everything he knew in 2011 he and Michael were sitting together in a  car drinking and looking out at the river when suddenly Michael took out a bag inside the  bag was a knife wrapped in cloth he told Bo this is how I get my divorce finalized B said his  brother's confession made him extremely angry because he believed that Michael was innocent  and even defended Michael is upset with B's reaction and throws the knife into the river  Bo directed police to the area of the rive
r where he remembered Michael throwing the knife  and after 3 days of painstaking efforts police were able to recover the weapon a large knife  of the exact type that investigators had used forensic said was used to murder an [Music] a  when asked why he didn't report the incident sooner B said he was afraid he and his loved ones  would be in danger police arrested Michael for the murder of Renee on February 6th 2020 soon after  prosecutors offered a plea deal involving the charge of second deeg
ree murder and a prison  sentence of 25 years up to 50 years Michael agreed to plead guilty that may but at trial  he surprised the court by instead claiming that he had actually hired his brother to murder Rene  however the police did not can find any evidence linking the case to Bo so you [Music] knew  back on August 5th 2006 at 9050 13 Mile Road Northeast you knew that you had hired your  brother Charles correct yes sir hired your brother Charles to to kill your wife Renee  Pagel correct list
ening to Mr Pagel the court is satisfied that there is a sufficient  factual basis for a finding that the defendant is guilty of second degree murder murder  based on the legal theory of aiding and abetting would you agree Miss konsky yes sir  would you agree Miss Joyce yes sir another search at Michael's home revealed more evidence  against him hard drives hidden in the ceiling contain disturbing diary entries where he  writes about his hatred for Renee and his plans to divorce her in October 2
020 Michael  Pagel was sentenced to 5 to 50 years in prison for murder specifically murderous wife according  to the laws of the state of Michigan USA murder is considered one of the most serious crimes  and can be prosecuted as first-degree murder or second deegree murder first-degree murder  typically includes planned malicious and brutal murder and is strictly punished by law with  a sentence of life in prison without parole meanwhile second degree murder often involves  unplanned or spur of
the moment crimes and the sentence can be more flexible depending  on the specific circumstances of the case in the case of Michael Pagel he could be  convicted of first-degree murder because of his brutal Behavior towards the victim and his  prior planning however because the prosecutor had agreed to the previous plea agreement Michael  Pagel was only sentenced to second degree murder with 25 to 50 years in prison however the jury  also declared that he would only be eligible for parole when he
was over 80 years old which was  also a great relief for the victim's family in the case of Michael Pagel although justice has  been served for the victim's relatives the pain of loss still lingers they continue to regret  and miss the victim carrying within them an endless pain that time cannot ease this case is  also a warning to everyone about the importance of protecting yourself we need to always raise  our awareness of security and self-defense to protect ourselves from potential dangers
