Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and
welcome into the 2023 Fantasy Awards. I am your host, Spencer, AKA Mr. Fantasy. It is great to be with you. After a long 2023 season, we have to wrap
things up and put a bow on the season that was. Champions were crowned and punishments
were dealt out to losers. And these were the players that were the
reasons why you won or lost. This is Mr. Fantasy's 2023 Fantasy Awards. Good evening everybody and welcome in to
the fantasy awards for the 2023 regular sea
son. I am Mr. Fantasy your host and MC for the evening. We will be giving out a total of eight
awards plus a couple of miscellaneous awards such as performance of the year and
fantasy playoffs MVP. And then we will crown the number one
overall fantasy MVP for the 2023 season. So let us begin our quarterback of the
year. He was drafted early, but it didn't matter
because he returned on his investment. Josh Allen is your quarterback one and is
your quarterback of the year. He had 385 fantasy point
s, 24 points per
game, which was more than you needed on a given week. He had 24.1 fantasy points per game, which
is plenty. He had 24.1 fantasy points per game, 3,947
yards through the air, another 457 on the ground, 15 rushing touchdowns, 27
touchdowns. through the air. Who cares that he turned the ball over 19
times? We're talking about the fantasy awards and
he may not win the MVP of the NFL, but damn it, he is the fantasy MVP at the
quarterback position. Our fantasy running back of 2023 is
none
other than Christian McCaffrey 1400 yards on the ground another 564 through the air. for a grand total of 21 touchdowns and 391
fantasy points, which is the most besides our wide receiver one who we'll get to in
a moment. But Christian McCaffrey, 391 points, more
than 100 points clear of the RB2 and PPR leagues, Travis Etienne with 268. 24.5 fantasy points per game for Christian
McCaffrey. He is going to be the number one overall
pick in 2024 in fantasy drafts and rightfully so. He likely s
hould have been the first
overall pick this past year, but hindsight of course is 2020. Our wide receiver of the year in fantasy
is none other than CDLAM 367 fantasy points on 122 catches. 1651 yards and 10 touchdowns. By the way, I only am going off of weeks
one through 17. We do not count week 18 because you should
not be paying. Just to start expectations from the front,
all of these awards are based only on weeks one through 17. I do not acknowledge week 18. It should not be a part of the fa
ntasy
season for what that's worth. Now that has been established. CDLAM this year was spectacular. The Cowboys, they may have left the, the
Cowboys may have left the playoffs early in real life, but CDLAM was a massive
success for your fantasy playoffs. And he was very much probably the reason
why you got your championship if you had him. Your tight end MVP of the year. And this one is crazy. The tight end of the year. The fantasy tight end of the year is Sam
Laporta, the rookie tight end from
the Detroit Lions. We have never seen a rookie tight end come
in and immediately make the impact that Sam Laporta did, but he was sensational. He had 81 catches for 860 yards and nine
touchdowns, good for 225 points. on the season. He should be back at the top of drafts
next year. He's going to be the keeper for a lot of
teams. He was also someone that probably was not
drafted very highly if he was drafted at all. He has a case to make for waiver wire
pickup of the year. Although I would still p
robably give that
award to Kyron Williams, but nonetheless, Sam Laporta is going to be a very precious
commodity in 2024 fantasy drafts. and he dethroned Travis Kelsey, who had
been the tight end one for the past three seasons. Now, before we go on to our value picks,
we will then, before we go on to our value picks, we will go into our bust picks. Now, our bust picks are not going to
factor in injury. I don't believe that is fair. If you followed along all year on Mr. Fancy's therapy sessions,
I don't like to call someone out in a game
that they were injured in. So these nominees are independent of their
injury status. So our quarterback bust of the year, he
was being drafted as the quarterback eight, going as high as the fifth round. And Trevor Lawrence finishes the year as
your quarterback 14. 258 fantasy points on the season. And it was especially bad when you
consider the fact that down the stretch, Trevor Lawrence was pitiful. In weeks 15, 16 for you in the fantasy
playoffs, he w
as 21 and 26 on the week. And of course he did not play in week 17. But all season long, Trevor Lawrence was
very unimpressive. He had a stretch of four games where he finished as a
quarterback one, but other than that, it was a whole lot of mid, a very
disappointing for Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars, not only in fantasy,
but in real life as they choked away the division to the Texans on the final day of
the regular season. Your running back bust of the year is
Austin Eckler, a pl
ayer that is near and dear to fantasy players hearts as he is
someone. who actually plays fantasy. He's not one of these other fantasy
players. He's not one of these other NFL players
that talks down on fancy players. No, Austin Eckler actually is one of us. He plays fantasy, but he was atrocious
this year, finishing as the running back 25 when he was drafted in the top four
overall. Now, Austin Eckler, I don't know if he's
going to be someone that is going to be even on the Chargers. next year.
If he is, he could be a value pick, but if
he is looking at a different team and he is finding a new home in the 2024
offseason, I am not going to be in on him in 2024. If he is sporting new threads, I am out on
Austin Eckler. Our wide receiver bus. Now this is a tricky one because he did
battle some injuries, but Cooper Cup, not only was he, you know, unavailable to you for most of the year,
but he is the bust of the year because when he was healthy, he was the wide
receiver 25 on the year on
a points per game basis, meaning that when he was
healthy, he was not even a wide receiver to in your lineup. And this is someone that you were drafting
to be your wide receiver one, your stud, your go to your most reliable fantasy
option. And he did not come through for you. Now, Cooper Cubs should be fine next year. Matthew Stafford will be back, and the
Rams had a good season. They should be looking to contend next
year. But Pukunakua, I think, has supplanted
him. But Pukunakua I think has su
pplanted
Cooper Cup as the wide receiver one for the Los Angeles Rams. We will see what happens. He might even become a value because of
that reason, but the days of Cooper Cup being a first round pick are over. Your tight end bust of the year is Kyle
Pitts. And we don't need to explain much more
other than saying Arthur Smith, his former head coach who is no longer in the
building, thank God we might finally be able to finally draft Kyle Pitts with
confidence in 2024. Arthur Smith is long gone
and Kyle Pitts
should have a path for success. in 2024, but he is a bust in 2023. As despite being someone that still slid
down draft boards, he was still being drafted in the top six, simply based on
potential. And he had 51 catches, 640 yards, three
touchdowns on a 8.3 point per game basis for one of the most, if not the most
talented players in the NFL. Kyle Pitts. Now, our next category, we're going to be
going through the best values at every position. These are guys that are opposite of us
. These guys were drafted late, but they
returned a lot of value for where you drafted them. Now, everyone at this position will also
be nominated for our fantasy MVP, and I will run over the MVP nominees at the end
of the episode stay tuned for that. Our value quarterback of the year is
Jordan Love. Now Jordan Love when he was being drafted
before the season he was being drafted ADP of 149. That is about the end of the draft that is
I would say um about the 15th 16th round depending on how deep
your league is. So he's basically going undrafted yet. Jordan Love finished as your quarterback
five on the year, 3,843 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also ran four touchdowns in on the
ground. 19.5 points per game. Jordan Love was a top five quarterback in
fantasy. He will be drafted as a top eight
quarterback in fantasy next year, but can he repeat it? We have seen quarterbacks get hot at the
end of seasons and they don't carry it over into 2024, right? We saw that last
year with Trevor Lawrence
who ended 2022 hot, but never really seemed to find his footing in 2023. Jordan Love though does play in an easy
division, has a good amount of weapons that are surrounding him and who knows,
maybe the Packers go out and make a splash and... They add some more pieces around Jordan
Love and give him an offense that can actually produce consistently despite them
having a great season. The Packers were inconsistent all year
long. So perhaps Jordan Love could replicate his
success next season. Your running back value of the year, and
there is not much debate on this one, is Kyron Williams. Kyron Williams was so spectacular. He was the only other running back other
than Christian McCaffrey to average over 20 points per game. He only played in 12 games as he did miss
a lot of action this year because of injury, but he still ended up as the
running back five overall. And again, running back two on a point per
game basis, 1,144 yards on the ground, 12 touchdowns. 32
catches for 206 yards and he caught
another three touchdowns. Kyron Williams will be a first round pick
in 2024. We saw enough. He looks the part, the Rams again,
offense, the Rams offense again is a good one and should continue to be a good one. As long as Sean McVay is the coach. Now they could add some more pieces, um,
at the running back position. I don't think they're set on just having
Kyron Williams. and they're running back behind him,
Ronnie Rivers. I don't think they're satisfied with
that. I expect them to add other bodies, but
Kyron Williams nonetheless, will be the starter week one in 2024, and he should be
a first round pick. Your wide receiver value plays for that
same team. He was someone that went undrafted in most
leagues and was the top waiver edition of the season, and it was Puka Nakua. Pukunakua finished the year as the wide
receiver five, 1,445 yards and five touchdowns. And he was setting rookie records. If it wasn't for CJ Stroud, Pukunakua
would have been the
rookie of the year. But nonetheless, Pukunakua will be drafted
higher than Cooper Cup in fantasy drafts in 2024. He likely will be a second round pick. And the Rams should be back next season as
one of the- more fantasy friendly offenses for 2024. And finally, the value tight end, it's Sam
Laporta. Now he was the overall tight end MVP, but
because of the value of where you drafted him, Sam Laporta was drafted in the 14th
round. He was ADP of 146. So he's being drafted at the end of
rounds. He wa
s being drafted at the end of your
drafts or picked up off of waiver wires. And he ended up being the tight end one on
the season. And Sam Laporte next year will be a tight
end that you draft in probably the second or the third round. He's going to be that much of a premium
next year since he literally outpaced Travis Kelsey who was going in the first
round last year. But as I said in one of my previous
fantasy therapy sessions, We are never drafting tight ends in the
first round ever again. We
aren't doing it. I'm not doing it. You shouldn't do it either. Alrighty. Now, before we go into the fantasy MVP for
the season, I have two more awards to give out. The performance of the year goes to Jamar
Chase. In week five, Jamar Chase put up a stat
line of 15 catches. 192 yards and three touchdowns, an
absolute nuclear performance. He is the nuke of the year, 52.2 points
versus the Cardinals in week five. And then your fantasy playoffs MVP goes to
your wide receiver MVP, C.D. Lam, who in wee
ks 15, 16, and 17 finished
the following wide receiver nine, wide receiver one. and wide receiver three. He was consistent all year and he stepped
it up the highest when it mattered the most. And he brought home a ton of fantasy
championships. So as we near the end of our awards show,
I will go ahead and rehash everyone that is nominated for the fantasy MVP of 2023. We have Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, CD lamb, Sam Laporta, Jordan Love, Kyron
Williams, and Pooka Nakuwa. But there can only be
one, and your 2023
fantasy MVP of the season is... It's Christian McCaffrey. Look, Christian McCaffrey, it seems
obvious, but it cannot be understated how much better Christian McCaffrey was than
every other running back. Again, the only other one to average over
20 points per game was Kyron Williams, and he was injured for a lot of the year. But Christian McCaffrey, someone who used
to be looked at as injury prone, played an entire season in a... Kyle Shanahan offense. He is the best running b
ack in football. We're not gonna overthink this award. He was drafted in the top two. He finishes as your running back one
overall. He's going to be your number one overall
pick in fantasy drafts next year. So for all of these reasons, Christian
McCaffrey is the 2023 fantasy MVP. Congratulations Christian. Your MVP award will be sent in the mail. I just. I don't know what I'm going to send you as
an award yet, but I'll figure something out for you. But until next time, this has been the
2023 Mr.
Fantasy Season Awards. We will see you next month. Until then, take it easy.
