You may think that the Baudelaires ought to prevail, And be tucked some place all safe and sound. Count Olaf captured and rotting in jail, His henchpeople nowhere around. But there's no happy endings, Not here and not now. This tale is all sorrows and woes. You dream that justice and peace win the day, But that's not how the story goes. You might think that two parents, Both brave and both true, Would live till a nice ripe old age. But I'm sad to say I have bad news for you, The curtain rings do
wn on the stage. Yes, there's no happy endings, Not here and not now. This tale is all sorrows and woes. You might dream that justice and peace win the day, But that's not how the story goes. I once loved a girl, And she thought well of me, We thought we'd be happy together. But now I'm all alone, as you can well see, And she's cold in her grave forever. There's no happy endings, Not here and not now. This tale is all sorrows and woes. You might dream that justice and peace win the day, But tha
t's not how the story goes. The world is a pair of ill-fitting pants, And other dire, hideous clothes. You might think that three children, would lead pleasant lives, But that's not how the story goes. Some people smile at the end of the day, Some people laugh, I suppose. But to me there's nothing but gloom and despair, That's just how the story goes, That's just how the story-coughs

@JelloApocalypse

I hope this gets a second season mostly so I can see how they adapt Esme Squalor to the screen.

@animemanXLK

It's weird but When Olaf sings like this he becomes almost sympathetic

@ramennoodles471

Violet has a really nice, soft undertone in the song. It makes it all the more pleasing to the ears.

@scoobygotwaves3832

I'm I the only one who has a hard time letting go of this show

@meganowens

Ugh the way Lemony Snicket is clearly holding back tears at “some people smile at the end of the day” reeeeeally gets me in the heart

@foxesbest6873

The fact that Poe's smiling while singing this shows how he doesn't actually care about the children. It's chilling.

@mcclawsnt1299

If you are allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, specifically if that thing is cats. - Lemony Snicket

@David-xc9ie

For Beatrice: Today was a chilly day As chilly as your remains

I always liked Lemony Snicket’s interpretation of adults in A Series of Unfortunate Events. The majority were oblivious to the Baudelaire’s claims of Count Olaf and they went ignored, thinking it was the wild imagination of children. They believed what they saw on the surface rather than looking at the signs and bad acting. The bad adults in the book exploited this, using fear and influence to make their misdeeds go unnoticed or played down. The good adults who listened and believed the Baudelaire’s were typically ignored by the other adults, didn’t have enough power to stop anything, or they were too passive to speak up to those higher than them.

Me when I rewatched the movie after the series: THAT'S NOT HOW THE STORY GOES

@jagadambikar264

Anyone appreciate how good Olaf’s actor actually is

@kaitlynb5467

It’s official this is my favorite Netflix series Reasons: This show is different, it is a piece of artwork. They planned all 3 reasons from start. There are so many clues and the parent plot from the season1 tricked even some of the book readers

@rjhale9261

the true mystery of this whole show is why Mr. Poe just can't stop coughing

@tesssully4250

As someone who grew up on the books I was super impressed with this series. Obviously some creative liberties were taken but it does the books credit..I love how they break the 4th wall.

@bellacollier845

0:16 So we’re just gonna ignore Neil’s absolutely PERFECT singing voice?

@caitlinrichardson7812

U ever think that the quagmires might notice the people singing and whistling behind them...?

@nathan8750

I really appreciate that everyone is singing it, even Olaf. Everyone’s a victim, everyone’s tales an injustice or wrong that can’t be righted

@greentoad64

1:02 Not enough people talk about this part, but I feel particularly bad the way he says "But now I'm alone as you can now see, she's cold in her grave forever", he really lost everything, or so it seemed, he had his siblings but then they also died, at least the baudelaire children had each other.

@Naomi-ok8wf

Who's here after the 3rd season but can't let go of the story
