re but when it comes time to vote many just don't show up yeah voted I feel good it's yeah get out vote super Tuesday the Super Bowl of politics a day in which millions of Californians cast a ballot some choosing to drop off their ballot others choosing to show up to the polls it's just a family tradition uh I think it's one of those things uh I grew up uh with my parents saying you know go vote in person but just how many people in krent County voted ballots are still being counted but so far S
tate data shows it was not that many many only 10% of registered voters in Kern County voted political experts told us this number is not surprising what are your thoughts about you know the voter turnout here in Kern County what has it been high was it low what what is a state or County saying well um I I would say it's followed trend of of being you know pretty low for these types of Elections they're usually not they're usually not as popular as you know the presidential elections let's break
down the numbers in total there are over 400,000 registered voters in ker County but really only a small fraction around 44,000 people seem to have voted krent County isn't unique necessarily in that aspect uh when we think about voter engagement in general um it tends to be low during our super Tuesday coverage we spoke to people out canvasing the DAT of the election they say often times people did not know there was an election happening we're going door to door because some people just you k
now they've misplaced their ballot they forget where they put it but they know that it's in their house so we go remind them sometimes gently sometimes a little bit more forcefully how important this election is a key voting Block in Kern County are Latino voters Latinos make up the majority of Kern County but it has been widely reported their voter turnout tends to be pretty low uh so obviously Latinos can be the Swing Vote in this they don't always come out in the numbers we hope them for you
know are always depending on them to do uh but I think we need to give them a little bit more motivation ballots are still being counted so these are not the final numbers the current County elections office told us the next update will be on Friday March 8th and the final results for the presidential primary and special election must be completed by April 4th in studio Les Molina iwi is news
