a plan to end no dogs allowed at California rentals pet owners limited to where they could rent and often times pay Hefty additional fees thanks for joining us here at 10 I'm Tony Lopez and I'm Marley gter CBS 13's Madison K joining us from a pet friendly apartment with this one Madison so Kota is my co-star tonight here and we are in my friend's apartment who paid an extra 50 bucks a month on his rent so that he and Kota can live here together now when they moved in he had to pay anywhere betwe
en $200 to $300 more on the deposit to have sweet Coda call this place home too and a new plan would make every apartment Kota friendly as well as eliminating all those extra fees the sound of unconditional love for pet owners I think pets is important the part of your it makes home from the house the sound of a pet though for Neighbors isn't always wanted each apartment complex should have certain amount of apartments that will allow for certain pets but then not just every the push to require
landlords to accept pets got renters talking the problem the lawmaker behind it wants to solve there's more renters with pets and a shortage of places where they're okay to live this bill does not allow for an increased security deposit it doesn't have any consider ation for your neighbors you know and I think that while we understand the need for you know pet friendly housing we need a much more balanced approach the state Apartment Association has concerns about the plan as it is right now wha
t would some of your suggestions be to find that common ground or change this start first with a pilot program that said to landlords if you accept pets you can collect the larger security deposit in Sacramento only 18% of apartment listings on Zillow up for rent allow pets it's not only that it's just that we don't have uh the space for it to cuz a pet needs a lot of room the light is a lowed here for Kota that is not something that he agreed on when he moved in to this apartment right but ther
e is push back of course by landlords and owners because of damage that can come from pets and not being able to collect a little extra money to cover in those incidental moments is something they're citing as a concern really their call is to just leave it up to them on a case-by Case basis but this is still in the very early stages can't deny though it is quite the talker right yeah definitely is it would impact a lot of people that's for sure people have their pets

Oh my, good news for the legal profession bc this will result in soooo many more tenant-landlord lawsuits!
Make it cheaper to build housing geared toward owner-occupants.
See, you really don’t own anything in Commiefornia. The politburo will tell you what you can and can’t do with the property.
Well that's when you make it if you make it pet friendly you get to do monthly checks and make sure that they're keeping up with their animal in the property it's really that simple
Naaahhhh I lived in a pet friendly apartment.....the neighbors upstairs never took their dogs for a walk...they let their dogs shit and piss on the balcony above my patio....the piss leaked through onto my patio furniture. 😮it was so bad that management had to get evolved. They still didn’t care.
Insurance is getting harder to get and insurance companies are declining to renew policies at times due to some types of dogs. Insurance companies are leaving the state and we are forcing lanlords to renew leases indefinatly and now we talking about forcing them to make all units pet freindly. We are seeing businesses enhance profitablity and shareholeder value by leaving the state or reducing their exposure to it. People who have made the mistake of investing their money to build housing for others to live in California.
I think if a pet is a nuisance and get complaints, then either the pet goes or both the tennant and pet. That lady said raise deposits... smh that don't fix those kinds of problems. ❤ 🐾
i'm in the Ca Valley and we had to pay pet security 800.00 per dog on top of first and last, which we are fine with it's expensive but we now will get it back if we keep it clean.
With the way the pounds are overflowing with pets, it makes sense this would get pushed. There can be a happy medium if people want to be active pet owners. Pets don’t need a lot of room, they need exercise and mental stimulation with enrichment toys. I have a small space and walk my dog/take him to the dog park daily.
This is gonna be a disaster lol. There's too many people who don't take care of their pets at all. Rents are going up and so are noise complaints no doubt 😄😄😄.
What a cool dog.
Very good. New law will finally get a lot of veterans with ptsd off the streets. They can rent and keep their dogs. Big step towards reducing homeless.
I own a 34 unit apartment building here in ca. If this happens i will increase everyone's rent to cover the potential destruction of property..
Medical conditions or allergic reactions
is california going to reimburse the shitty tenants that let their dogs piss and poo everywhere? no, they want to put the cost on the landlord and have dogs running around
They do cause damage sometimes
Hopefully they can bring things up to CODA. 🙀🤭💩

There are innumerable situations where a pet couldn't be allowed. Noise sensitive neighbors, allergies, ....
