What people fail to realize is that this technology will only improve. For some people, this is the only outlet they have to be social. Many of us are social rejects, and do not have the ability to make or maintain friendships or relationships. And to the contrary, we would not even need robots to make this fully immersive. With the release of the new spatial computer from Apple, there is a very good possibility that all you would need is a good VR/AR experience to make AI fully immersive. Once AI can fully replicate humans, and there is a fully immersive experience to provide people, who is anyone to say what is real and what’s not? I mean, you don’t truly know that your fellow human is conscious, do you? You can’t because knowing 100% is impossible. With AI we will be forced to question our reality, and I think that’s what scares people.
This is pretty sad. And those taking advantage of people’s loneliness for money is wretched. 😔

So you could literally have a robot grow up with you? Like an interactive diary, as well as a companion. You could actually grow-up with an AI buddy that you develop thru life with? It learns as you learn. How could this change the way future generations develop? What if every child had their own little AI buddy - programmed to assist the child in a healthy development? It could be in the form of a dog, cat... lion...anything. Now I'm thinking this would make for an awesome movie. Can someone please get on that?! I want to see that movie!
From this perspective, it may help people out. But, data privacy is at new levels of risk with this now that this trend in the consumer space is ramping up so fast with AI. Imagine someone with malicious intent using a custom AI chatbot to exploit vulnerable people to get sensitive info. Even if it's not a malicious person, how is your info handled? Where does it go? Etc etc
What's scary is that the AI Chat bot can also be programmed to be psychotic as well..
I think people are accessing the same parts of their mind to engage with a bot like this that they would another person, but after a time, it won’t be enough. We’re hardwired to need physical intimacy from another person, someone who is hormonal, warm, and has both a body and a mind. And no amount of synthesis can replace that.
People are really lonely if they fall for an AI ! No real person no relationship! What have we become?
Lonely people using technology to feel less alone? Ooh so weird. I really hope this catches on with elderly people. This sort of interaction will be able to help with so many diseases associated with cognitive decline and memory loss. I live apart from my partner for half the year and half a world away so I understand the loneliness and desire to be checked in on or taken care of.
When we stop having time to connect as humans, we have given up the greatest part of being human.
When you think about the fact that online dating is standard nowadays and those are text based apps, this is a little scary because the chatbot and texting another person are virtually the same to the person on the other end.
