[Music] he sticks to his guns he take a road as it comes take a shine all these years [Music] says it's a shame you know it may be okay but I won't play [Music] it's burning the grass take up a glass [Music] it crosses the floor he opens the door he deck asleep on the street [Music] and she's telling me you're crazy she's a saying listen I'm your wife [Music] she's standing me you're crazy you just can't believe if your life [Music] most of my viewers are from the USA and you you've all read the
news Lake so this song is for Kobe Bryant I saw a lion in use and I thought I guess I need to learn news now each time I learn a new song I go to youtube and there's lots of comments like it's my favorite song you know it's the masterpiece underrated song whatever and it's true this song is extremely good well executed great arrangement and of course guitar work is phenomenal and here's how I think it was played for the guitar part mark uses this extremely extremely economic approach where the
whole verse part of the song is mostly within like feels best spent in four or five chords depending on how you want to play it's a minor and B minor in seventh position then C in fifth position B minor again a minor in fifth position notice there's no sixth string because since the bass line is on the fifth string so Froemming this bass was down strange and this is perfect for the band situation since the bass player can feel all the proper bass notes to make song so punchy and groovy [Music] a
s it is a lot of it happens thanks to this bass and rhythm guitar separation I like this transition between C and be mana [Music] because the hand is moving up the neck but the harmony actually goes down code-wise creating this interesting feeling this is a theme in the song and you can find at least three places where it appears I'll talk about that in a minute this song you got to employ this interesting approach where for a couple of bars its finger style classical boom chick Chet Atkins thum
ping and then just try me so great news is there's not so much to learn but it's a great introduction to finger style guitar players I'll play the boom chick part slowly so it's easy to hear what is going on [Music] you [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] at some strumming and you'll learn the whole song almost the chorus is simple because a lot of it is just silence in all dire straits is a kind of a band which is famous for its dynamic range and uses a perfect example where one minut
e in its rocking and then it's silence [Music] amazing the chorus is so free I have to resort to using these percussion elements because if out if the chorus becomes free-for-all so you have to use your imagination to play drums or just use the guitar as drums here is C 2 D [Music] then C the D but up the neck in the e shape going to a minor through a little diminished [Music] Iman the leak is played just in this position two strings at a time wait again C to D [Music] this is another place wher
e the harmony goes down [Music] and the guitar part goes up [Music] as in the back to see like that in 2d shape [Music] it all leads the second-longest stop yet on this a -7 suspended 14 it's open 5th string than C shape and add a tenth fret [Laughter] this pose is interesting since it last for one and a half baths two three four one two my favorite way to count it apart from hitting Nikita is just to play or imagine two additional a minor seven shapes and going down the neck [Music] [Laughter]
[Music] [Music] and it gets it back to the verse so one and a half baths six beats [Music] easy to count it can't get any longer because it's a full stop and counting it for two bars would make it sound like the song has ended it would be just too long I said it the second longest stuff because this part from the chorus is full two bars long so mixing long and shorten stops makes it more interesting to the listener another great example of good songwriting from early Mark Knopfler I will say the
re are three places where the melody goes up and in the harmony goes down the third being right in the beginning [Music] anyway I think not so many people notice different post duration or cross harmony but it is there and little things like that always make a bigger picture thank you [Music] you [Music]
