Newspeakは、2016年にリバプールより帰国したRei(The Never Never Club & ex. John Doe Tokyo), Ryoya (ex. go!go!vanillas), Yohey (Curtiss),プロデューサーでもある Steven(ex. Kando Bando)によって2017年東京で結成された。
同年6月に会場限定盤としてリリースした1st EP「What We Wanted」は発売から4か月で完売、11月には2nd EP「July」をリリース。結成初年度ながらサマーソニック2017、マグロック2017といった大型フェスティバルへ出演のほか、MANDO DIAO東京公演サポートアクトも果たしている。
