thank you timeing out for News Talk we have Julie from the sedc County Emergency Management team we're here to talk about CCH training coming up here in the first week of April this is something I got to see behind the scenes a little bit a few months ago it's really interesting very important for the community kind of take us through what that looks like sure uh C is community emergency response team training it is um Hands-On training um to prepare ourselves for those first initial hours after
something bad happens in our neighborhood before the professional responders can get on scene um a lot of times you know that's what we do neighbors help neighbors um but we want to teach the skills to do it safely and also Empower folks to realize that they can do a lot more probably than they realize after a disaster hits and it's cool to see kind of what everyone else goes through in that situation as well kind of makes you understand the pressure people are under that kind of thing take us
through the training specifically I think it's what 20 hours or so yes what's it look like there it's 20 hours and we spread it out um over three days so we have a class coming up um April 5th through 7th in gard and we have a few hours on the Friday evening all day Saturday and then half a day Sunday um Friday is kind of the introduction to disaster preparedness Saturday is a lot of the Hands-On training where we go over basic first aid we go over fire safety we go over light search and rescue
and a lot of that is Hands-On so it sounds like a long day it sounds like a long weekend but it goes by really fast and then Sunday we actually get a chance to practice and go through the scenario and go through an actual exercise and apply those skills to a scenario that so cool and during the 20 hours you guys had these trainings quite a bit what's been the reception from people after they go through it it's probably a sense of accomplishment as well it it really is and a lot of folks uh have
that aha moment of like wow I had no idea that I could do this um a lot of folks a fire extinguisher is a prime example we we all have them in our kitchens but not many of us have actually felt it extinguish so we actually do put out a live fire so everyone can feel what that feels like to do it actually use a fire extinguisher that's incredible and who is this this kind of training geared for who are we looking at for people that may be sign up for this coming up in April uh just the general pu
blic um any body um again this is a basic program to teach our our residents how to again be that first responder when you come out of your house take care of your family and then how to take care of your neighborhood um it's also meant to be our extra set of eyes and ears on the ground so we need to know what's going on out there so we can line up the resources and prioritize who's getting what and when and how much does that help you guys I'm sure that kind of alleviates the pressure knowing m
aybe someone C certified at the scene already kind of uh what's that do for you guys to kind of alleviate some of the pressure a little bit absolutely especially for our First Responders alleviates a lot of pressure um they they get overwhelmed when there's a large disaster and they have to prioritize the most critical need and if we can take care of some of those less critical things on our own um that certainly gives them a chance to take care of those who really truly need that professional l
