o the national championship game pack 12 Championship 21 game winning streak he is now as you know the Alabama head coach and and Alabama starts spring practice this week we're already into Spring football he gets an opportunity to instill his culture on a very different roster uh Bama is actually at a scholarship deficit a lot of kids going into the transfer portal not as many coming in so it's his first opportunity to put his thumb print on the Alabama program as the successor to Nick Sabin no
w one Alabama player that we honored last year is not in Tuscaloosa any longer that is our Shawn Alexander freshman of the Year safety Caleb Downs now at Ohio State the Buckeyes have had a very splashy off season so far Caleb DS is one of those centerpieces best get in the entire transfer portal he takes over in Jim noll's defense look at what Ohio state has done they they bring Chip Kelly in to be the offensive coordinator uh will Howard is now the new quarterback replacing Kyle McCord that's a
n upgrade uh and you've got Caleb DS as the centerpiece of the defense I think he's going to be a serious contender in year two at the college level for our bedar award and that brings us to Payton Wilson he's our 2023 bedar Award winner uh last week at the combine in Indie 443 in the 40 leads all linebackers fastest linebacker in Indianapolis one of the fastest in the history of the combine we have him pegged going in the second round I think will be a great pick and finally our Maxwell Award w
inner also at the combine Michael penck Jr Washington quarterback threw well didn't really test in drills threw well but but the big thing for Michael penx is Medicals checked out that's the big question mark with Michael series of injuries in the past Medicals look good I think he goes somewhere in that 20 to 40 range maybe the fifth or sixth quarterback there's a bunch of teams that are kicking the tires on him I think he's going to have a great NFL career as long as he stays healthy uh so we'

n and a half at UCLA tonight yeah look Wisconsin season is over I don't believe anyone that loses as many games as they have over the last three weeks deserves to be in any kind of tournament whatsoever but I think they can win this game tonight in cover because they are so desperate to have a good game they I mean they just can't get out of their own way and Ruckers is adequately awful to provide him with that flooring and then I like Washington State in Pullman to handle Washington I bet Oreg
on this morning and laid three and a half against Colorado in Eugene I don't think it's G to be easy at all but if the Ducks are ever going to prove that they have anything you got to win at home uh and you got to Colorado out and then Arizona's flat out better than UCLA now I have watched this UCLA team play late night on the coast right and they're just not good and they're not going anywhere either they're not going to the tournament they're not winning the Pack 12 tournament that's not happe
ning Arizona needs to go in there tonight and frankly bash their face in I mean Arizona is one of the top 10 teams in the country and if if they have for round with UCLA tonight you know what it'll tell me Mike it'll tell me that they are not legitimate to go on a a lead eight or final four run at all if you can't beat this crappy Cronin team then you're not worthy of anything right it's true uh this is a big rebuild this is a rebuilding year for Cronin UCLA's been awful for most of the Year ter

o be that's not a secret to them for the most part but the bottom line is with Justin Simmons he turns 31 later this year he's he's number 31 a terrific player by the way great straight development but he's been there a long long time the only team he's played for at one point the highest paid safety in NFL history uh they did release him today Vic Fango who former head coach in defensive mind is in Philadelphia we'll talk about the Eagles in a second here uh the eagles need safeties but Justin
Simmons right now is on the market uh Denver's is going to be re it's going to revamp that safety position now we know about the quarterback position they have a major cap issue for this year next year this team the Denver Broncos is in a rebuild don't have they don't know who their quarterback's going to be they got to figure out some things on their offensive line they just they just cut Justin Simmons they've got a cap crunch yeah it they're kind of one of these situations where I don't want
to call them in purgatory but they've got a lot of problems there it's tough being a Broncos fan now because you've got the the problem of the Russell Wilson contract that's it's going to be felt this year next year there's no way it won't be felt it's going to be it's going to be felt for two years let me just ask you one other question about um Shawn pyton when he was screaming at Russell Wilson and literally lighting him up on the sideline in games and I mean there was no getting around how a
ngry he was that was not like you did something wrong that was I can't stand you and you're going to do it my way uh and you're not going to be here I mean he was absolutely in his face what was that relationship like was it that bad Shawn pton this is what son who worked with him told me and this is what Seattle went through but Shawn's even harder on it you got to play Within timing and the structure of the offense get the ball out if it's a five-step drop in two seconds if it's a seven step d
rop 2.3 you don't run around and try to make a play he tries to be Superman that's been the problem it was a problem for Seattle it it was a problem for Shawn pton and it frustrates coaches because you saw it with Drew Brees once Drew Brees got the offense down New Orleans he became an absolute Superstar he pton runs a a great scheme he's a tough coach to play for there's no question about it but if you do what he's a what you're asked to do by Shawn pton who by the way calls the plays you becom
e a good quarterback now uh it was it was reported locally in Pittsburgh that Russell Wilson by the way once he gets released will visit the Steelers and the Steelers have interest in signing him what they've won and we talked about this weeks ago what the Steelers want is so to compete against to compete against Kenny picket you and I know this if Russell Wilson comes in he's going to win that competition yes there would be a competition Russell Wilson is a Super Bowl champion I know he's not t
he same quarterback but what you have there in Pittsburgh is a commit to the Run game and their defense that will help Russell Wilson that'll help anyone who's starting a quarterback and by the way the the Steelers still have as I told you weeks ago they want Mason Rudolph back this gives them leverage at the very least Rudolph now knows that there's another quarterback who's in the mix now to be their potential starter and Russell Wilson but Mason Rudolph remains on the Steelers radar and to me
there's a couple things here though if you look what are the missing pieces quarterback obviously and they need one more offensive lineman they need another Corner opposite Joey Porter Jr they need two more safeties they cut K Kean O'Neal here uh today who was on injured reserve last season who was hurt so he he didn't pass the physical so he's available they need a couple safeties but once they get the quarterback situation right they're going to be an absolute playoff team there's no question
about it with that running game that defense they got to get the quarterback right and improve their offensive line wow I mean what a mess honestly I I can't even tell you how frustrated I am uh to hear about these dealings and meetings and possibilities and uh and you know even Rudolph like if I'm Rudolph like you're just going right back to number three again uh you would think he'd won something better for himself or do you think he's just satisfied with that role yeah I don't know that thou
gh see here's the thing though I don't see them bringing Wilson in and Rudolph because Rudolph absolutely showed that he can compete for that number two job don't Ryan tanah Hill is another guy if they strike out with Wilson keep an eye on tanah Hill obviously Arthur Smith work for uh but the bottom line is Russell Wilson who was obviously humbled by what happened there in Denver he was terrible he got he got benched it didn't end well we talked about Jared did being their starter going forward
or they're going to have competition for him probably a rookie but the bottom line is when you look at their situation in Pittsburgh they've got to get it right at quarterback it's been a while by the way Mitch trabis signs with Buffalo they know him he's been there before to be a backup to Josh Allen but the bottom line is it's it's it's got to be about the quarterback here and I'm interested to see if Russell Wilson could regain any the last highly competent season he had was 2020 that's how l
ong it's been forel since Russell Wilson's been a good quarterback so let's just be clear guys don't go from being good in their last season in 2020 to being good again in 24 25 I don't care what anybody says it never goes from that to that and that's just all there is to it it goes from that to worse which is what it's done ever since 20 for Russell Wilson he's gotten worse by the year they must be stupid to bring this guy in honest to Christ don't get me started uh let's talk about uh what's g
oing on with the secondary in Philly yeah boy Scott they're gonna have probably three new starters now I'm I'm counting a nickel Corner as he started in a secondary he goes play a lot of 5 DBS last season with Vic vanjo he does that a lot so they caught Devonte Maddox their nickel corner now madx missed 21 games over the last two seasons he's never played a full season in six seasons of an as an NFL player he was a fourth rounder 2018 2018 out University of Pittsburgh very talented guy really go
od athlete one of the better nickel Corners in the league but they cut him they've left the door open for him to return but he he would have to take a major pay cut probably be cut in half he was just making under 7 million had he been on the roster for 2024 which is the last year of his last extension but they need that James Bradbury is under contract there's no way he's starting the season if he's on the roster so they're going to need another starting Corner uh they need they're going to pro
bably add as I understand it two safety their secondary Scott's going to be revamped it's going to look completely different it's amazing two years ago they're in the Super Bowl with a great secondary they were incredible under Jonathan Ganon who who's now the head coach of the Cardinals but things have changed and and man there are a lot of defensive backs it is a buyers's market at safety Scott there are like 15 starting safeties now out in the market including some of them who've been cut thi
s week so if you need starting safety you could find one out there in the market well you just told me the Steelers need them and then they never do anything in that department it just sickens me all right let's talk about uh the Bears they had uh like a a plan in place they didn't want to lose Jaylen Johnson and it looks like they won't yeah so here's what happened so they knew that they they made progress earlier in the week but they were not close enough on his extension so they tagged him th
ey used their franchise tag on them and then they extended him now what I was told when they gave him permission to seeet trade during the trade deadline their ask was so high that it scared other teams off and that's a good thing they really never wanted to move him and to that point they sign him to a a four-year extension today and they had a ton of cap space and a ton of cash to spend their secondary is one of the best in football very very young which is what you want but Scott their proble
m is up front they've got one good pass rusher montz wet they don't have a starting end next to him they don't have two star defensive tackles so they they have to add that they have to continue to reshape their offensive line which they address last year but the big one is quarterback I keep telling people Jess Fields right now as I told you a week ago at the combine they still don't have a team for him and I know people are talking about Atlanta he's not a good fit for Atlanta's offensive sche
