No $5 Trillion Economy - Until We Solve THIS | Shocking ASER Education Findings | Akash Banerjee

Education in rural India always has been in a precarious state, but with rising school enrolments things were looking better≥ However the ASER 2023 Survey - spanning 26 states and touching close to 35,000 students - has a grim story to tell. Indian rural youth in the 14 to 18 age bracket .... the same youth who will become the backbone of the labour class - is struggling to even do class 2 level academics and even the most basic of life calculations. If India has to capitalise on its 'demographic dividend' - then there is no getting around solving this problem of rural education ..... here's why ⛔️ BECOME A DESHBHAKT MEMBER - www.patreon.com/thedeshbhakt ⛔️ Unlock MEMBER ONLY: 1) Chats 2) Discord Server 3) Special Episodes OR Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmTM_hPCeckqN3cPWtYZZcg/join 👕 DESHBHAKT MERCH - India's First Line of Socially & Politically aware tees 👕 https://kadakmerch.com/thedeshbhakt 📧 BUSINESS ENQUIRIES - contact@thedeshbhakt.in 📧 ASER Core Report - https://asercentre.org/ The Problem With the Survey - https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/aser-survey-problem-reducing-learning-to-absolute-measurables-8393636/ Credits : Script : Akash Thumbnail : Mehul Graphics : Mehul & Ritam Editor : Khursheed & Mehul Producer : Aman #aser #educationindia #unemployment

Cow dung is more expensive than Kohinoor diamond. Chandrayaan can tell us the weather on the planets But I said, there are so many clouds, it's raining, there can be benefit of evading the radar Sanjay was sitting and telling Dhritarashtra what was happening in the war. There was internet. This disease has spread in the world and in our country too.... Man having sex with man. For years, I wondered that when politicians talk about such things, don't they fear that they will be exposed? People wi
ll laugh and put garland of shoes around their necks... what will they do without power? Enough, Editor you have become emotional. Have you ever seen a political leader who has committed suicide? It's not like that. I was emotional, I was naive, I was logical, I was factual. It was my fault that I could not understand the leaders. After years of hard penance, after understanding the leaders, I realized that politician was not the fool, I was a fool. Politicians know their voters and constituents
well. And when they are talking to their voters, they are talking to their voters. They don't care about us. That's why the government makes cow dung a diamond, farmer's income double, and GDP 5, 10, 20 trillion. Because they know that few people understand and fewer people ask questions. How many zeros are there in 5 trillion? It is difficult to say and even Dr. Sambit Patra does not have the answer to this. Sambit brother, how many zeros are there in 5 trillion? Tell me. But if you ask 14-18
year old youths in rural areas..... not zeros in 5 trillion, but what is 500 divided by 7 then more than half won't be able to answer Such basic maths is taught in class 3 and 4. It is not possible for a 14-18 year olds to tell the time, use a ruler or read a textbook in his native language. These are part of demographic dividend ... they will be looking for jobs, they will play an important role in making India the 3rd largest economy in the world. But ASER, Annual Status of Education Report ha
s given some shocking revelations. If we don't rectify them immediately, then let alone demographic dividend, it will become an endless unemployment nightmare. The goal of $5 trillion economy will be further removed if we don't focus on these findings. Let's start with the good news. ASER found that more children are enrolling in secondary education in rural areas. Despite the pandemic, parents are sending their children back to school. And compared to last year, most children are going to schoo
l. Enrollment is at its highest ever. But just like the GDP of a country does not increase avg income automatically, going to school does not guarantee education and learning. The survey of ASER has been conducted by the civil society organisation Pratham for a long time. This time the focus group was 14-18 year old youth. 28 districts were covered. In 26 states, 35,000 students have been tested. You can say that not the whole country, but 35,000 students in rural India. This is a big survey. Th
is survey found that 87% of rural youths are enrolled in an educational institution. Enrollment rate is 96% at 14 years of age. But it drops to 70% at 18 years of age. This has many reasons including family pressure This ASER report found that the basic skills of children are not good enough. Children from 14 to 18 years of age are not able to read grade 2 level text, are not able to solve grade 5 level maths. That means, half of these children are not eligible for skilled training Only 42.7% st
udents can read basic sentences in English. Of them 1/4 won't be able to tell the meaning. Maths is even worse. 58% students can't even divide a 3-digit number. How will these students manage their money? This is the reason why scamsters take advantage of this. How will the rural empowerment be implemented on ground? Maybe students are becoming street smart. Textbook is not smart, street is smart. So, how many children face problems in doing simple life calculations? 45% of the youth could not t
ell how long a child slept. They were told the time of sleep and the time of waking up. They had to calculate how long a child sleeps. So, in this condition, how will they go to the factory and check their timing? If we want to reduce the problem of unemployment in the country, vocational education is important. Not degree, at least you will get job opportunities But for that also, basic education is required. For example, in a task, 40% of the young men who were surveyed, they were not able to
use the ruler properly. Remember, this survey was not asking any difficult or Olympiad level question. The task was only that, can 14 to 18 year old youth do class 3-4 work? I mean, this survey was done at such a base level, at such a simple level, even then the result is this. Sadly, you won't get to hear the screaming debates on TV. No anchor will shout and scream for the students condition in school The situation is not a result of one particular party or government If we want to solve unempl
oyment, we need to accept the reality. Not like, we came and solved every problem ... however some people would like to believe that If any government decides to solve this problem, if it has such a will, then it is possible. If the government has a will, then people start clapping, if it has a will, then huge buildings get built. If there is a will, then the vaccination program is successful in a few months. So if govt wants, solution can be there. Question is, does the govt or politician want
people to be illiterate? It is possible that this is their plan to remain in the office. Because if people are educated, they will start asking questions. Some politicians have even given statements. Take the example of Kerala. What can we do? You may be like ... what issue is this? It is known that education crisis is there in rural India What difference does it make to us? All is well for us. If you think so, you are wrong. For your selfishness, listen to these two points. That how it affects
you - economically and politically ... We often think that demographic dividend or population alone will make India a manufacturing hub of the world But we forget that any MNC checks the funding, market, buying power, social conditions, political climate, and most importantly, quality of labour. No quality, no factory. No prospect of job, then there is no money and there is no buying power. Our economy will not grow as a result. If it does not grow, then the 5 trillion ton economy will be a dre
am for the next few years. Last week, lakhs of urban air travelers understood that if you give the airlines, airport and security to private players, sell everything and do not even do basic monitoring, then what happens? Delhi had runway maintenance in between fog. Indigo Airlines is accused of running their monopoly. Spicejet passenger had to travel in toilet. The passengers have no right to speak. So, in what form does anger emerge? Slap on the pilot Now, think about the situation in rural ar
eas? When the government does as it pleases, and there is no one to speak for it, no institutional system, or no one is standing up for it. Take the example of MSP, when farmers don't get it. the government is trying to impose privatization on them, against which farmers are trying to raise their voices. Until the people are uneducated, it is easier to suppress their voice. That is probably why the government is angry with JNU. Lack of education increases social and political pressure. Dictators
can increase their stronghold. But unemployment and unemployability are the two difficult problems. Which is the output of this lack of education. Unemployability is a subject we have made an episode on. That we do not have the right people to fill jobs. There might be a solution if everyone works together. In America, it is called a bipartisan issue. We might oppose on other issues... But when big issues like Covid, taxes or civil rights come up, all parties work together on these issues. The
biggest problem is that even if schools are made good in rural areas, the young people in rural areas have to help in household chores. The report says that we should use mobile phones to make education more flexible and mobile. Just like work from home, we should use SFH, School from Home, Hybrid model. Because everyone has a mobile phone. More than 90% of people have a mobile phone. ASER has also mentioned in its report that mobile phones are being used not for education but for entertainment.
Technical and vocational education needs to be taken care of. There is no chance that all degree holders can get jobs. It is shameful that we have to import $100 billion from China while they are trying to enter our country. But the lesson is that China has used its demographic dividend to upgrade its labor force And it has become a manufacturing hub. Not only because of its population but also because of its trained population. The ASER report says that we have to work in this direction. Now,
this report can lead to two conclusions. Either the government should understand that the report pointing to the truth is not made by Soros or Gandhi. It is showing the reality. If this is understood, situation can be improved in the coming years. We just need a little focus to change the game. Other countries have done this. Take the example of small South Korea or massive China. But it is possible that this report also gets rejected as anti-national and/or Soros funded. That this report is a
lso questioned. I have given the link below. There are questions on this report as well.... Measurement standards are wrong. This report is not up to standards, etc. It is possible that nothing changes. The condition of rural schools might get worse. And children learn that they are in danger on social media. Us versus them. And as far as maths is concerned, 80-20 rule Such reports and experts are only there to warn us that the car is getting off the track. After that, the public knows best what
to do A year ago, we had warned you about the startup collapse. We had made an episode. We asked what happened to Boycott China? A year ago, wildlife experts said that Cheetah import plan was impractical... while people called it masterstroke Now, when all cheetahs are dying one by one, it is quiet. If we could become educated, 5 trillion GDP by boycotts, trolls... we would have done it long ago. But to do this, you need to have the ability to ask questions to understand criticism and work on i
t That is missing. In the last 2 days, the central government has taken away the FCRA license of the prestigious Centre for Policy Research. Hindutva watch which covered hate crimes was suspended Now, if anyone asks a difficult question, silence them. It is possible that this will happen with Pratham organisation also. To show the truth of rural education But in the beginning of 2024, there was a promise. In the last 5 years, Deshbhakt has shown you the truth on subscription-based, ad-based mode

Respect to Dr. Ambedkar to understand the importance of education. ❤

@rumanapatel6809

My father has worked as a teacher and a principal in a higher secondary school (government) in Gujarat for the last 35 years and according to him there were 8 teachers in the school and slowly all retired in the last 20 years and there have been no requirements so far. So now the school is running on temporary teachers only. The case in tribal areas is even worse. I have visited schools where the entire school is running on only 1 teacher, now you can only imagine the education children are getting when 1 teacher is managing 3 classes at the same time.

@shrutikashyap6340

First of all this episode was needed .... so thank you ... we really need to undersrand the gap which lies between the market and data ...

@aathoo537

I kept saying this to all my friends, we can never become anywhere close to a superpower if we cannot fix our basics, that includes education and healthcare. We are trying to build a skyscraper on a marshland!

@tristein_stan

I'm from Rural area (Malkangiri, Odisha). I can relate 😢😢. Most of the govt. High school students don't know even simple mathematical calculation like addition, substraction. But in our Odisha, government focus on school infrastructure (5T) not on students education or skills.😮

@nandkumarvagarya3143

Unemployment Poverty and Illiteracy are not problems but an advantage for the political leaders.

@rashidakhan4202

I m an employee of Pratham and currently working in an govt. School as a nursery teacher on contract basis. I am so proud of Pratham that's working so hard for the education sector of India. Political leaders are too busy in their politics that they even don't know what's the actual level of education in our country. After seeing your video , I am so glad that there are few people who are actually concerned about future of India. Thank you

One of the best episode. You proved yourself real deshbhakt by discussing this very crucial problem of the country, which most of us neglecting

Hey Akash, today's episode hit close to home. Coming from a privileged background, I had the chance to attend one of the state's top schools. I want to share a story from my school days. In our Telugu class, a friend from my Hyderabadi community, though from a Telugu state, struggled to translate due to our Nizam-influenced background, which wasn't inherently Telugu. The Telugu teacher made him a laughing stock in class during my 10th-grade year. Despite being in a Telugu-speaking state, many from my community faced language challenges. Frustrated, my friend boldly expressed, "I spent a decade in this school mastering Telugu along with other subjects, yet I struggle to translate a simple Telugu sentence. The remarks made are a reflection of the school's shortcomings, despite its top-ranking status in the state." Unfortunately, his outspokenness led to a month-long suspension for perceived disrespect. Afterwards, his parents intervened, and he was compelled to apologize to continue attending the school. This incident highlights issues within our education system and the challenges faced by Indian parents, even in top schools in India's fourth-largest city. It's a reminder of the disparities that may prevail in India's rural areas, where a significant 60% of the total population resides. Despite challenges, stories like this one shed light on the complexities within our educational landscape.

@SuryaPrakashBheri

This is exactly the kind of reportage we need . A billion reports/programs like this are needed. Akash salute to you. Save India !!!

@kaberiganguly7330

There was this famous bengali film 'Hirak Rajar Deshe' by Bharat Ratna Satyajit Ray and there was this famous dialogue 'era joto beshi jane toto kom mane (the more they know the less they obey)' is very apt for the current situation.

@anurag-kumar20

There is so much to be done to take our country forward. Things looking in control right now is no gurantee of things continuing to remain so. We need to continuously steer the ship with genuine efforts towards the goal. Empty chest thumping is not going to save a sinking ship. Thanks again for bringing some of the hidden pulse of the nation in the open. Continue doing your bit.

@pradeepkumarpradhan338

Considering India's population the Portion of our GDP allocated to Education in yearly budget is like feeding handful of grains to an elephant.

@gordhandass3561

I am a government teacher in rural India in Rajasthan I am watching it closely and on daily basis. The girls have to do the daily household work and the boys usually participate in agricultural work on the farm. There are many families in which the youth have to earn to support their family.Yet the government is trying to train already trained teachers.

@diarydate6720

As an UPSC student, your every video is working as a revision video, especially education, health, unemployment, and government schemes. If I say it in layman's terms, you are doing a tremendous job. In your recent video, you discuss obligarchy government with Dr. Raghuram Rajan, which is really concerning.
