Nonprofit in Chelsea to open as day shelter

La Colaborativa, a nonprofit in Chelsea, Massachusetts, will open its doors as a day shelter for people with nowhere to go. That shelter is set to open for the first time Tuesday.

now a nonprofit in Chelsea will open its doors today for people with nowhere else to go NBC 10's Oscar margain is live in Chelsea with the details Oscar yeah that's right Bianca the LA collaborativ here in Chelsea has been working with the state for several weeks now to try to make this happen to try to make some space here in their offices and host about 200 people during the day now we were given exclusive access to the areas where the homeless will be able to spend the day while the staff off
ers the meals clothing and Case Management Services most if not all of the people who are going to be brought here are migrants who are staying overnight at another shelter in Cambridge which is occupied during office hours by the middlex County registry of deeds now La Diva says it's receiving grants from the state safety net shelter program in order to help ease the burden on other shelters which the governor's offices are at capacity this is a place that is going to prep them it's is going to
evaluate what their needs are but it's going to prep them so that they can immediately find a job many of them have work authorization if they don't have work authorization we will do the fill out the application get them with a immigration lawyer and immediately our hope is to prepare resumes and get them to work all right so the plan is to try to get the people from the shelter in Cambridge every morning and bring them here so they can spend the rest of the day and it's going to happen every
