Ohhh to be 70 again! Happy birthday, Sydney Film
Festival! Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday, Sydney
Film Festival. You don't look a day over 69. It's been a long journey to this night. We've
of course thought very carefully about the 70th edition of the Festival. It's crazy. It's
a lot. There's so many cameras. I'm like, overexcited, actually. This is just
incredible. It's like the perfect thing to do in winter in Sydney. It's cosy,
the theatre
's amazing. The whole thing. To share that experience with a whole lot of other
Sydneysiders. And some great filmmakers too. We were really searching 'til the last moment for
the perfect opening film and we have the perfect opening film. What's not to like about Warwick
Thornton, Kath Shelper and the incomparable Cate Blanchett? Oh, I hope they laugh and they
cry and they start dancing in the aisles. We have some of the greatest established
filmmakers in our line-up. We have some fascinatin
g new filmmakers. It's a
perfect combination. I think we see the great present of cinema and we see the
future of cinema at this festival program this year. This is the right place
to be. Not anywhere else but here.
