just inform to your friend then that join the meetings with the official email ID only will will not allow anyone who is joining from other email ID just uh put a words in your WhatsApp groups and all like those who want to join they can join from official email ID is will start uh at 7 7 or 75 we can wait for 5 minutes and then we will start okay that's fine okay so a very good evening to all yeah so very good evening to all so welcome you you all for the oration for BDM Keon project so the pro
ject is handed by Dr Ashwin and uh me as a instructor and we have a team of uh T who are handling the submission and W right so this is what basically we'll give you the insights about the project what exactly the project is all about and how you to proceed with the project so there are some basic questions maybe I can just uh explain and after that Dr will start with the uh uh like what exactly the pattern and what what are the guidelines you need to follow for the project so the basic thing is
that like uh if you are registered for this project in this term the fees is valid for two terms like uh this term also you can do the project if it is possible uh to complete it uh in this term then it is fine otherwise if you are going to make this term and you feel like it is not possible to complete the project in this term then you can just proceed in the next term only with the help of registration but you need not to pay the fees again so the other thing I want to focus is like uh it's n
ot something like you have submitted a proposal in this Stu so it is not necessary in the next term if you're registering you have to start it from the scratch means you are start you have to start from the project you have to start from the next like if your proposal is accepted then you have to in the next term you have to start from your midterm or end term whatever the submission stage you are in uh in the previous one from the next uh uh submission stage you have to start with the next the
other thing is that like uh we have certain guidelines and we have certain things our support team is very like we are very active VIA mail if you have any queries you can drop a mail but the things we are already circulating we have already circulated Dr as already sent the email regarding all the document we are going to upload all the documents in uh the drive itself in the portal itself from where you can access all the documents okay these are the documents you to access it in case if you a
re finding any difficulties but when when you are dropping a mail just try to refer the documents what whatever we have shared and then you can just drop a mail in case if you are finding a difficulties but we uh suggest while dropping a mail uh before dropping a mail you refer all the documents and guidelines so most of your issues most of your problems will be shorted out so it's a very rich document database we are having we are having nearly 10 to 15 documents books uh other uh uh support sy
stems are there we have a videos we have a lecture from the best cap project a students who in the previous term from there you will get idea okay what exactly the project is all about they are giving the presentation about your project so from there you get idea okay these are the things you have to focus in the project and these type of analysis you can do it so the project is basically related to uh your it's not something like I've seen I and ass we have seen like most of the students are pu
tting in the discourse they are telling it's only data collection activity it's not a data collection activity uh so basically the project is uh focusing on your skills which you are going to develop in your uh uh academic or in your courses which whatever you have taken machine learning courses different data scrapping courses visualization courses right whatever you have learned till now you can just try to incorporate the skills you gain from the classroom learning to the real data so this is
basically the main motive of the project it's not something only a data collection from the project itself uh uh we got a feedback like a students there are some students who are totally hesitating right they are hesitating to communicate with others right so after the project they we got the reviews from them like sir initially we thought like how we can run the project because we don't have such communication skills but this is in from this project at least they gain a skills they are try to
communicating with others to get a data and they are developing the so it's not basically a project which focusing on your uh uh one uh skills it's a multiple skill uh in this project you are going to develop multiple skills right so this is what the project is all about the detail explanation Dr ashin will give you all and we'll share the documents and after then we can take a question from your side as well like in case if you are having a doubts uh we can just try to address how many uh doubt
s are possible like we'll try as much as doubts uh uh we'll address in this meeting uh after then we have we have every Sunday meetings are there you can in come and you can just clarify your doubts so it's not an issue we have uh good support team so don't hesitate if you are feeling uh nervous you can just come up and just tell us okay this is the problem we are facing on so we'll we'll try to help you out right so maybe what do you Dr ashin you can just start uh the presentation yeah yeah uh
so thanks a lot adya and thank you all for joining so we have close to 25 so uh um this session is going to be pretty long uh it's um uh uh likely to be a three to four hour session but what I would be doing is that I would be explaining to you what Capstone project is if you are able to hear me please give a thumbs up um if you're able to hear me if I can okay fine great uh the questions would be addressed the questions would be addressed at the end so uh please do not put any questions in the
chat box because uh it would kind of disrupt when I kind of present okay and please do join only from your official email IDs which is study email ID and what I'm going to do in the next two or three hours from now is that explain to you what BDM Capstone project all about is and you know in addition to that we have come up with secondary data as well which is something which I would be spending some time and explaining so the first one or two hours I'll be doing my presentation and post that an
y number of questions that you have uh we'll be addressing them so a brief about uh me I'm Ashwin and I'm an assistant professor of marketing at sales at ESX School of Management Paris France so I'm based at France and I'm also a PhD from I Madras and Aditya is also a PhD from IIT Madras and he's Associated currently as a research uh in a research role in IIT Madras currently okay so now let me go straight away with my presentation without wasting much time okay so what is uh just wait for a mom
ent for the screen to be shared um yeah are you able to see my screen it's it's loading adya are you able to see it okay yeah okay okay so what is this U BDM Capstone project all about so this time you see that I have made two documents one is BDM Capstone project analysis with primary data and this is something one second yeah uh now I request everyone don't to put Emojis and all because it is creating a disturbance so when uh Dr as will be asking you then you can put Emojis and all and after t
hat you can just try to listen it yeah okay okay thank you thank you than you so uh we have two Pathways one is uh analysis with primary data which is what we recommend you to do but in case you're not able to do this for some reasons then we also have analysis with secondary data which I would be explaining today so what is this BM Capstone project the first thing um U Capstone project is something which is there everywhere okay which means to say that any uh particular you know you join anywhe
re you'll see that projects are very important because it is something where your understanding is kind of put to test so what do you do in this particular Capstone project is that you are supposed to collect data pertaining to a business problem now what what do we mean by that is that this business could be a structured or unstructured sector which means that it could be your structured businesses where everything is in process in order for example manufacturing automobile it sector so on and
so forth or if you look at unstructured sector it is like these kirana shops small kirana shops or you know vegetable shops which kind of do not maintain things so that is what we refer to as unstructured business so when when you're doing this with primary data what you're supposed to do is that you have to collect primary data pertaining to a research problem now I'll explain everything step by step so what you do is the first step is that you would be approaching a business we have many docum
ents and as in when I complete the entire presentation you'll completely understand as to what I mean so in this particular primary data you cannot collect data from online sources like kagle or GitHub because if you collect data from these sources it constitutes secondary data okay so this is not that we want and it is an independent research project highlighted in bold and red because you know the last time we had two or three students who did the project as a group and at the end they were ca
ught and you know they got a failure grade so this is why I just wanted to highlight that this is an independent research project the questions would be addressed at the end now what is that you would be doing is that first step is to uh uh you know you approach a business and this business could be in B2B or b2c I'll explain what B2B and b2c is so b2c refers to business to Consumer okay so any business so let's say that I buy something from Amazon it is more of a b2c whereas B2B is something th
at is happening between both businesses let's say that there is an exchange happening between Amazon and IIT or some two businesses uh then it is referred to as B2B and each of them have their own characteristics a document which I have shared which I'll come back in some time so first you reach out to a business it could be in B2B it could be in b2c or both you try to meet the key people who are involved and try to understand the problems that they face okay every business will have problems be
it structured or unstructured they would be having problems and these problems are to be solved why what happens is when you do not solve problems I mean or these bottlenecks what would happen is that it would slow down your process or could kind of puncture uh your profits right so many things happen so the first thing that you do is uh once you uh reach out to them you try try to understand the problem or the problems that they face okay and then collect data pertaining to it so in this parti
cular process you'll be doing many things the first thing that you do is you prepare certain in field notes so whenever you um just go don't just go asking for data so uh in in a class which I'd be doing a week from now or maybe two weeks from now I'll exactly show that how is that you need to pitch it teach something called as sales here and I'll show that how can we actually use this concept which we are using in sales to kind of use it in data collection process and how to kind of get this pa
rticular thing done so uh you know you meet the key people who are involved which is in your case it is the student and the business uh how many meetings so this field notes is for your reference and why you need to have field notes it is extremely important to have field notes because you know as in when you get certain results which is kind of surprising you can actually go back and have a look at it okay and then understand the type of business this is extremely important because the characte
ristics are extremely different right so if it is B2B you know um they tend to be priz and elastic B to C try to be prize elastic and there are many differences which will come to which there is a document which is being shared and how do the businesses what kind of problems do these businesses encounter it is very important to understand and uh you know you may not get it in one go but you'll have to speak to them slowly try to develop a Rao and then slowly you know try to understand them well
and then try to understand this and then kind of ask them different questions ask them different open-ended closed-ended questions again something which I would be explaining next week and uh uh you know try to understand that is it something a one-time problem or is it something which is recurring which is something which is occurring again and again what is that they have done to resolve this so on and so forth okay and then you know let's say that they gave you a list of problems and then you
decide what is that you want to do right you might choose the problem statement which you want but make sure that it is in line it is addressing all the heads which we have asked in the rubrics which I will be explaining in 10 minutes from now how did you narrow down the problem how was the data collection done time period of data collection so on and so forth and then to establish credibility it is important to have certain tangible evidence right like the organizational charts we want the vid
eos of the service Cape if it is you're doing it in a Services domain then we would want certain documents or pictures or something so on and so forth the next step is to have you know the list of variables that you have collected as a part of data collection so as I told you that you try to understand the problem you know the businesses face a problem let's say that the sales is down this is a problem and then you need certain variables right you you need variables to kind of help address that
now that is what we refer to as variables now what do you need you might need the opening stock you might need the closing stock I'm just giving you an example in sales you can do it in different domains students have done an as much as you know 128 domains over the past two and a half years and once a data is collected what you do is that you clean the data and why you clean the data because the data you know there could be missing values this is something which you you might have learned in yo
ur stats or in your BDM Theory but if that's not the case what you could do is do something called as data cleaning which is very very important why it happens so that if you proceed with data which is irr aneous the results that you get is completely wrong right for example let's say that um there are four kinds of bread which is available um let's say that the cost per kg is €6 8 1010 and the fourth one the entry is ,200 and now you know that definitely the cost of the bread could not be €1,20
0 right so now you know that there is some error which is there so the best way to tackle it is go back to the business and kind of find out that what has indeed happened with it or you know kind of remove it all together so this is what it is and you will find out different ways of data cleaning for example the other way of doing it is like you know you find out the standard deviation if the standard deviation is zero um then you know it kind of gives you certain insights that okay maybe there
is something which is wrong once that is done you analyze the data once you have got a clean data set what you do next is you analyze the data you start drawing graphs and these kind of graphs give you certain Trends now we always recommend that do not do simple bar chart you know pie charts or spikes or paror charts because it is not adding much value okay for that reason what we have also done is that there is a PDF in the email that I have forwarded today tips to visualize you know tips to pl
ot you know how do you plot things so on and so forth just have a look at that PDF and with the data set that you have try different things out you know there is a box and whisker plot which you use when you have qualitative and something quantitative let's say that I want to know what is the poverty rate across country so you know box and whisker plot could help there in that case right Suppose there are two quantitative variables a scatter plot might be of help to you wherein you will find wha
t the correlation is and you'll find out what the R square is so on and so forth whether is this positively correlated negatively correlated this way you can draw certain different graphs which will give you newer insights now once that is done your graph is telling your story right the graph is showing your plot what you're supposed to do next is that um uh you're seeing a trend and that trend is something which you need to explain why is this particular Trend coming you know if it is spiking w
hy is a spike happening if there is a Descent Why is this descent happening now that is what you write and finally you give certain novel insights to the decision maker now what do I mean by novel insights it is something new which you tell to the business owner or the managers which they do not know don't give something by intuition your analysis should say that and that analysis whatever you find out in your analysis now your intuition what your Insight should be derived out from that and not
from intuitions okay so this is what do and then finally you tell what should the businesses keep doing what should they avoid and in what ways uh Your solution addresses the business problem and again as I said these insights should be novel not something which I know in advance you know for example a student wrote that do not sell ice creams during winter season now you know the data did not say that and we all know that you know ice cream doesn't get sold much during the winter seasons right
so that we don't want things like that so um that is what it is now how is the flow of the project so this particular project has four stages so this is what something which I wanted to explain the first stage is proposal submission and uh it is a five-page document so every submission we evaluate to 100 marks and it is scaled down so the proposal carries 20% weightage we evaluate for 100 and it is scaled down to 20% the midterm follows next again the timeline should be explained in a minute or
two it is scaled down to 20 the final submission is your final movie which is kind of scaled down to 40% and then you have a w OC which means typically once all the three stages are cleared you have a w OC which is again scaled down to 20% so these are the four stages of submission so what is the timeline so the timeline is something like this so every month you know we have a portal and uh all the details would be sent to you by the support team so we have a portal wherein you can make the subm
ission the submission for the proposal is open from 1st to fifth of every month which means you can upload your proposal every month between 1 to fifth so there is a deadline I think fifth we stop it at around 1:00 in the afternoon we stop it at that don't be under the impression that it is there till midnight no we stop it at 1 p.m. so that is why we give you a Fray window submit within that and what happens is that your results would be announced by 10th if you're lucky you might get it on Six
th if you don't get it on Sixth or 7th don't write to us saying that you know we have not got the results because the T can evaluate this up to your results questions would be addressed at the end your results would be will be announced by 10th so you could get if you're lucky you could get it on 8th you could get it on Sixth you could even get it on Fifth you could get it on 10th the midterm submissions happens between 6 to 10 so 1 to 5 is proposal once your proposal is you know cleared then on
ly the portal will allow you to submit the midterm submission right so if your proposal is rejected which means that you lose that particular window you can only submit in the next month you lose a month if your proposal is rejected so then comes the midterm submission so you it is always happening between 6th to 10th and the results are are announced by 15th similarly you have the final submission which is between 11: to 15 and this is followed by W so this is the flow which we follow and typic
ally we have seen that students take between 3 to seven months to complete the project so even if you do it pretty fast you will take three months because once you submit the proposal you can submit let's say that you submitted the proposal in February your midterm goes in MA Fe March and your final goes in April and you can immediately once your final is approved you can give your W so typically we see that the short time in which the students can complete provided that they have everything at
hand is 3 months but students have taken around seven months also so that is why once you make a payment as Dr adya said the payment is applicable for two terms and once two terms is done and if you have still not completed you need to make a payment once again okay so I hope I've clarified this so we also avoid what we refer to as the best Capstone project go to this document after my class go and see this this is something which we do every every time this is a video of last year we also have
some older sessions which you have done you can see in the links that we have given you and then Dr Aditya takes every um he takes a live session on every um um s Sunday so U I think it is 11 or 11:30 in the morning Indian time so uh make use of this opportunity is extremely experienced and um he's somebody who has his own startup when he was we were students and he was extremely excited and he has his own Venture so you know uh learning you get to hear from the horse mouth itself straight so he
's somebody who is very experienced and uh you should make use of this opportunity and you'll see that uh most of the students who have taken it have kind of I've rated our project pretty highly okay and then what is to be done next is u a declaration statement is a must now why what is a declaration statement in the Declaration statement you clearly kind of mention that you have done the project on your own okay and it has not been done just give me a minute please in the Declaration statement
you mentioned that you you have done the project on your own and it has not been done by anybody else okay if you do not provide a declaration statement we disk reject it now why we had to bring in declaration statement it was because we found out that in one or two cases the student did the same project and to avoid this we have done it so first thing in mind an independent research project second thing is if you're doing it with primary data you need to approach a business try to understand th
e problems that they face collect data pertaining to the problem clean the data analyze it provide novel insights to the decision maker okay now then if you have certain queries we we do get a lot of queries uh on an average we answer 50 60 emails a day but if you have queries related to your payments registrations you have to send it to synu jja at study atm. ac.in if there are queries related to the project write to us but make sure that you have gone through the documents and do not write to
us without going through the documents if you have not gone through the documents or it is if it is something that we have addressed in the uh documents that we have sent to you we would not be addressing them because it's a waste of our time okay and for that reason we have provided you 20 Rich documents everything has been crafted a lot of time has been wasted I mean not wasted you know you spent a lot of time in creating quality documents and that therefore we would want you to go through the
documents so if you have not done your homework please do not expect us to answer them so this is how the timeline is and now let me explain what is coming in the project proposal so what is uh the first step that you have is something called as the project proposal now what is this project proposal it is the trailer of your movie right so basically if if you have a movie the first thing is you have a teaser or a trailer right so this is like a trailer so what you would be doing is that the pro
ject proposal has to be four to five pages long it is evaluated for 100 marks scale down to 20 and a pass of 50 out of 100 is essential for the process to be for the proposal to be approved so if you do not score 50 marks so if you're score score is 48 or 49 you you know it means that you failed and you will have to submit it in the next month and we need two objectives uh for pro objectives but if the if there is one objective and it is very Broad and it is something which you can answer all yo
ur heads using it then we don't mind okay now what is that you have to do the first thing is declaration statement we have already provided that in the uh I have sent you an email and it is also on the portal uh so the Declaration statement is a must if you let us say that you give us a perfect report no declaration statement desk reject we will not AI I'll answer your questions later at the end all questions at the end if there is no declaration statement it's a straight desk rejection okay the
second thing what we do is that when we get your proposal we put it on a software which is called as turn it in so it's a plagerism checking software and if your plagerism is more than 20% again it's a disk rejection so we will what we do is that once uh the portal takes the submission it is automatically linked to turn it in so it will tell us the similarity score if the similarity score is greater than 20 we will not even you know bother checking that we straight away write that it is plageri
sm and rejected okay so now what is that you need to do there are many things that are needed in this particular proposal and we have also given the word limit for the same the first thing is executive summary now what is this executive summary the executive summary is basically something that summarizes your report now what should be an executive summary we have a document which uh two more documents from now 10 15 minutes from now which I'll tell you what executive summary is so basically exec
utive summary is the summary of the report so you're actually telling us that what is there in your report you'll say that okay um you have done this particular analysis for this particular business this was the problem identified you know you you summarize everything so that is what we call as executive summary you then provide a certain background about the organization you know what the organization is whether it is into B2B b2c or both what kind of business they do if they have a mission and
vision statement if it is organized or a structured business they have a mission and a vision statement mission is the basic purpose of existing vision is the statement of future reality what we aspire to be in the near future but let's say that um if it is a Kira store or vegetable shops they don't have it it's fine but just write it what what they have you just write it and then list down what your problem statement is you can State your problem statement and then give the objectives okay eve
rything is being explained in the coming slide uh in the coming documents it should be in the form of points and not not in paragraph your objectives are always in the form of points once that is done you can provide a brief overview on the background of the problem what is the problem all about and what is it so on and so forth have a look at the word limit make sure you Adder to it the problem solving approach okay now that we have a problem which is identified okay now that we have a problem
The Next Step that we do is we go ahead with problem solving right so uh you have to justify you just don't you know take R draw random graphs and show us spikes now why is Spike of no use what do you mean by Spike is a bar chart they are basically descriptives right which means to say that you're just saying that okay on on a Monday the number of defects were 98 now it is just telling me the frequency or something so it doesn't give something new so why do I need to plot it that way so we don't
need something like that uh what we want you to do is that we would want you to justify if you're using a box and whisker plot justify why a box and whisker plot if you're using a correlation uh what do you say a scatter plot tell us why are you using a scatter plot if you're using uh if you're doing some tests tell us why you doing that and once that is done you have something called as work breakdown structure now what is this work breakdown structure typically this comes from your project ma
nagement when we construct a building or any anything any projects when we do we break down the words work into different parts right now that is what a work breakdown structure is and finally there is a Gant chart again and then what you have is an expected outcome so you might be asking me how can I give the expected outcome in the very first go see the point is this that you know what the problem is okay the problem is kind of very clear so you know that what is that you wish to accomplish or
what is that which is coming out from this right what is the expected outcome this is something which you need to explain okay so this is something U you can say that okay these are the expected outcomes now would this remain the same throughout the project it might change as well right so as and when you are kind of marching ahead and going from one stage to the next you might see that whatever you have defined in the proposal might not remain the same this happens right you know when we const
ruct a house we have a plan will it actually stick to it we certainly cannot say you know 90% of the times it might change as well so that's that's absolutely okay so do we have separate documents for midterm and final the answer is no we have we have made one document for proposal you are supposed to take cues from it and work on it for the midterm and final the second ter second is a midterm submission and this is 8 to P 10 page submission okay the submission is 8 to 10 pages uh again St strai
ght rules you know you don't need a declaration here because you have provided a declaration statement in The Proposal because at the proposal level we want a declaration statement if no declaration statement reject for midterm we don't need it because it's just a first stage process we check for plagarism again you know if it is greater than 20% straight rejection and then again we have asked you for executive summary now you might ask me why an executive summary here and why is that you asked
here now I've given a point here student might see that some sections are similar okay these things get refined as in when you navigate through different stages of submission for example when I'm when I T this particular subject for the first time I thought it in a particular way but when I you know after two years you know the way I teach the approach everything changes so similarly as and when you navigate through stages the executive summary or everything gets refined and that is why it is de
liberately kept okay proof of identity something which is very very important we need primary data if you have done you collect the data if you want to do surveys you're free to do so uh um let from the organization in lettered and their stamp and sign images of the service Cape so suppose you're doing in Services then there's something called as service Cape the place where where service is given right so you go to a restaurant where you have food that is a service Cape and then a short video o
f interaction between 3 to 8 minutes with the founder uh don't give us a video which is uh where we cannot establish credibility if this stage if the pictures or the videos are missing we reject your um project because it is important extremely important to establish credibility and you can go back and have a look at the different links that we have shared where you'll find everything then what we have is metadata and descriptive stats so you might ask me what metadata and descriptive stats is y
ou will see the link one two here and that is where it is but to briefly tell you what it is so once you have a problem you know that there are different variables that you need to solve that particular problem now these are your different metadata and for every variable that you take you have to give the descriptive stats which could be like what is your range what is your mean what is standard division so on and so forth so that is what it is all about and then you kind of explain um the diffe
rent process maybe for midterm we kind of suggest that limit your graphs to three to five four to five but explain it in very much detail and kind of then explain your findings okay so this is something which is needed in the midterm but make sure that the page count doesn't exceed 10 okay uh it should be within 10 pages do not make similar submissions for midterm and final so I'll come to what final submission is later but don't make similar submissions if you make same submissions we will re i
t straight away and video interaction is a very very essential component to establish credibility and let's say that if you have lots of videos and pictures do not put all the pictures throughout the document what you have to do is provide us a Google link and put it in that and give us access okay and I also want to assure you guys that whatever you share with us remains with us and it is purged once the submission is passed we don't keep it with us it is only done to check whether it is genuin
e or to establish credibility okay is that fine after this we have something called as the final submission now this is your final movie right so this is tighter so it is 18 to 20 pages long we scale it down to 40% and if the plagarism is again greater than 20% we reject it right away and again you see here there are certain more components which we have asked you have to do all this and all these things are explained okay now you free to use any any tools that you want excelr or python but you
know excel in itself is huge that you know you can do anything on Excel U there are so many options which you have not you might not have explored so Excel is really good we don't expect you to do rocket science take a simple problem do it solve it in a structured way and give it you know that is what it really matters and once you clear it you have the W examinations so what is this WWA OC you have a presentation so we have people from industry and uh they come and take your W so you make a 10
page 10 slide PP and you present to them the WWA could be somewhere between in 30 to 45 minutes and then you complete this okay and there are four reference textbooks which I have given I would personally recommend I'm an evid reader I would also personally recommend that you have all these four in your library especially if you're working in the domain of services which I'm carrying it here also not recommending this thing I don't get any benefit out of doing this but this is a fantastic book b
ecause I'll be teaching this in March a fantastic book all these four are fantastic so suppose you're working on Services then you have to buy from yoken wordss if you work in the domain of operations like let's say that lead uh reorder point or you want to find the lead time economic of order quality so on and so forth one and two is a must I mean they are the Fantastic books and uh you should have them and they are like not very expensive it is within 500 600 rep base but something which you s
hould have in your library this is what we say and most importantly while we keep saying this every term please don't share these documents online because you know people make you know put it on the web or something this is something which you it is for your reference and not something to be shared despite saying we see this online okay so now what is this BM so whatever I've explained what has happened now is that this is the document which kind of tells you about the proposal so your report sh
ould have a name and role number so we have also given a template so use that particular template so every report dis you might submit it on the portal and you might say that okay the name and role number is on the portal so why do I need to write it on the report it is just like giving an answer paper uh without writing your details right so how do I know it is you who have written so that is very very important and formatting is especially important let me kind of say that do we kind of read n
ewspapers or books which is not formatted well the answer is no it looks weird so please don't do it we request you to stick to the terminologies which we have given which is Times New Roman 12 1.5 spacing Left Right justification okay so this is what you do now what should be the sample titles like okay the sample see these are quality sample titles so you know optimizing custom support workflow of an e-learning program or price prediction and demand forecasting Etc do not say that you know we
are trying to find the profits of a idly shop this is not something which you want and whatever I explained in the executive summary there in the previous document this is what an executive summary is wherein you summarize the key um things in the report right so it is just like a summary of the entire report and what is to be there it everything is mentioned purpose of the report uh purpose of the report uh you know the major points bjor descriptions conclusions recommendations you have to writ
e it very tightly it is like the abstract if you look at abstract you convey all the things but in that 200 250 words so 250 words is roughly a page or so okay so once that is done you provide information about the background of the company so this is what we need about the company the Inception Inception is when did it start Founders if there are information about available about netw worth so on and so forth what are their offerings whether they are into product services or both whether it is
B2B b2c or both how many employees they have what are the locations so on and so forth so this is what is expected in background of the company if it is an unstructured business you can just say that this particular business is run by so and so they are in this particular location they have been the business uh has been in existence since 1999 and it's a family run business so on and so forth okay now once this is done uh uh you have to um you will have to understand what the problem is and this
you'll uncover only after uh you have a discussion with them so now one important thing that I would like to mention and I me and Adia we keep on uh kind of specifying this to PE students is that don't be under the impression it is always important three things we all need to follow in life right we have to be polite we need to be sympathetic we need to be professional in our approach and that is something which I'll do in a week or two from now just if you go and say that I an I madas student
I want data nobody will give it to you and also I see on Disco some of them simply writing without attempting the projects that you know this is a data collection exercise the answer is no uh and for the very reason what I did yesterday I'm not sure if people have gone through it uh we have sent a LinkedIn post I I shared a link of LinkedIn post of a student called Prashant who did it in the last term uh Prashant had his own challenges and uh uh which you might have understood by now and you kno
w um despite that when we spoke to him and we told him that let's give you the data he said no like you know uh I want to do it on my own and you know despite the difficulties that he had because he had to be you know accompanied by his parents had to accompany him all the point of time and then he was in frequent touch with us and he successfully completed the project and not only that he got the best Capstone project ever too so we have covered that success story so that you get motivated and
second thing is that if you do any subject not only ours any subject if you do it for the sake of formality just that you want grades or I madas great card it will not help these days you know having knowledge is very very important okay and how you translate your understanding so that is where you you kind of uncover it in project so people tell us that we have got 10 GPA the question is so what you know there there were students with 10 GPA as grades who flunked in the project so what I want t
o convey here is that you know having a good GPA is good but it is not the only indicator so we recently we got a mail from a student saying that he has 10 GPA and he cannot collect data but he doesn't want to do secondary because there is degrade and we say that no this is the only pathway if you if you don't want do that way if you don't want you know this is the only pathway grades are important I also have a very high GPA and that's why I'm here but the thing is that it is not the only indic
ator of a person's success knowledge is also very very important and unless you you know dirty your hands you will not learn all of whether it is me or Aditya we have worked very very hard during our student days we also continue to work very hard even now make these quality documents it has taken a lot of time it has taken close to uh you know 150 200 days to make us all these kind of documents we had numerous discussions debates and then we have come to this finally you have your sample object
ives and this is how you should Define your objective every objective should start with two okay and you kind of don't mention what you'll be doing in the objective right you don't say that see to improve the efficiency you don't say to improve the efficiency by doing this that is the method which you're speaking about it is the objective that drives the methodology not the other way around so keep it in mind so you're stating the objective you're not going to say how you're going to do it how c
omes in the methods part okay and then what kind of data you would collect so essentially the data collected should be in line with problem statement now let us say that uh you have uh uh stock out issues and in that case what would you be collecting data on you would collect data on the opening stock closing stock selling price demand forecast so on and so forth and once you get these variables you have to check once again okay is it helping me address the problem statement if the answer is no
which means that you have to go back and do this process once again now let's say that you want to find something that that you know you have U things are going out of stock and you have details regarding the marketing expenses and you know there is no correlation between that so in no ways you can solve that right so that is very very important to understand some sample graphs always name them this have for proposal you don't need graphs but I've just shown you what kind of graphs we actually l
ike right you know this is a very unique graph so this was done by two students so I've just put it there were many good graphs but you know I just wanted to show you these are the kind of things which add more value in your CV then simply drawing drawing a spike or you know histogram or so on and forth questions at the end please once this is done every time you know you have to write table number figure number and also indicate in the text that is very very important for the proposal there is
no need of graphs okay then comes the expected timelines so it should be explained in the form of work breakdown structure and a Gant chart and uh every project is defined using this so how do you do this as I said that if you have to construct a home uh then you know you know you break it into Parts you start with the this thing right so you basically have a proper foundation and what do you do post the foundation so even before you have levels you need to have a strong Foundation once you have
a foundation you have the pillars once you have the pillars you start putting levels so similarly how is that you're going to go about so you break it into parts and you're going to explain and in the Gant chart so you're basically telling us the timelines this is very important so you tell us the timelines in Gant chart so which means that okay when do I start something when do I expect to finish so on and so forth and this can change you know uh none of us can be very certain that okay I have
told that from three months from now I'll be finishing what if it did not go see it is always possible right I always you know come with a particular plan every day I make a plan for myself in my book that I have to read five research papers six research papers sometimes it doesn't happen for different reasons right so that's fine so now you may ask me a question that Ashwin why is you know this line is from April to March why is this coming from April to June why is it not coming post March wh
ich means to say that you know some activities go parallely for example I can um um let's say that a construction of a house is happening uh so they are working on the um you know your ground your base to fix that parall they can also do something on the agreements right so these are you know something uh uh not mutually exhaustive right so happening of the one does not prevent happening of the other so that is how it is and then you put the expected outcomes so you kind of tell okay what are th
e deliverables what deliverables you would be providing okay the likely implications from the project again remember want to stress here that this inside should come from graph and not by inion okay and uh don't draw this we don't like this especially if uh I randomly check submissions and if I see bar graphs and perto I will give a straight away zero and a rejection because I don't like them and then finally graphical analysis should uh be provided from the midterm and it is not needed from The
Proposal I just wanted to show you and all the documents need to have page numbers very very important formatting look at the way I have formatted it's very neat applicable from the midterm justify the rational for drawing a particular graph so if you're drawing a pie chart I don't want a pie chart but let's say you're drawing a scatter plot tell us why did you draw a scatter plot why was a scatter plot good and there are no separate documents for midterm and final you should take cues from thi
s one and work and we strongly recommend that you read the reference book that we have shared and this will help enhance your understanding okay so the these are the first two documents now I'll come to the third one which is called as for those who find it difficult to work with primary data so bharti Madam mentioned to me that you know it is essential that you know some of them just don't want to do this but they just want to do this and exit the course while we I and adya strongly don't recom
mend you to do this because it absolutely has no weightage so let's say that you walk into your internships or for your jobs irrespective of you having a job or not what everybody is interested is what project you have done you know your grades yes it is needed but you know what really matters in life is what kind of projects you have done and this is the pedagogy if you see it is worldwide it is the same so here what you'll be doing is that you'll be collecting data in the first one you have to
collect primary data now here you collect secondary data which is data which is available in a repository or a public source so on and so forth like any repository and then you do the analysis right away right but you know when you do this we should also give you certain penalty and we want it to be harsh so the only grades that you'll get is D and E nothing less than that how much ever well you do a project you have only d and e grad so if you have done the project extremely well you get a d g
rd if it is bad e-d if it is further bad it is a fail grade okay however since that we are giving only two grades this will have only two stages of submission there is no midterm midterm is something we have ruled out in this particular case so you'll have a proposal which is here which is same as that of this thing and then you have something called as a final submission so the Criterion are the same and again what should be there for this you know all these documents are similar you can refer
to the Capstone uh primary data things to kind of write this now how do you work on this this is pretty easy uh so what you do is you scrape things you can do it but you have to give us details of the repository so on and so forth for the proof of originality obviously since you're not kind of interviewing the people and so on and so forth you have to provide us details about the uh from where you collected the data so on and so forth and um we will be crosschecking it and one more thing you can
not copy the submissions um as I said once you give the report it goes into turn it in you can also go back and check it and turn it in detex every single thing if there is an overlap or if you find that students have copied from each other which has happened earlier as well they have res they've got a fail grade and they have to do it all over again so it's a waste of your time never do uh uh never be dishonest with this profession because if you learn you have to learn and earn here okay it is
not just just that you take shortcuts and get certificate some of the students kind of write that we just want certificate that mindset itself is wrong such students you know I personally I'm not a fan of such this thing because you know you have to learn and earn you gain it okay so if you just want shortcuts it will actually not be of help again this is an independent research project which means again you have to do it on your own but the only difference here is that you do two stages there
is no marks you just get an accept or reject decision okay so you have two rounds and then you have a w OC and the W OC is very very complicated so we wanted to make sure that the WWA is pretty complex here in this case so what happens is that so what we' have done is that uh uh it is expected to be tough and the student would be asked to demonstrate the data questions at the end please student would be asked to demonstrate the data this W could go up to one and a half hours so that is why we wa
nted to have certain penalties for this so I and adiya do not recommend you to go take this route but in case you want to take this route you're free to but you get a d and e e grade only okay is that clear so this is the third document I have four more documents ad shall I complete this ad there okay so let uh yeah you can complete okay so now what is this particular we can we can take some of the questions now and uh after then we can continue with the next next document so in case if anybody
is having a doubt uh they can just yeah can to this point if there is there is yeah up to this point if there is some difficulties you can just come up and ask and the other documents and then we can take other questions right so up to this the doubts you are having if no doubts are there we can proceed forward yeah we can take uh a doubt from uh GM Nandan Kumar yeah tell us yeah London are you there okay we'll go to mandip MIP are you there fine so I think uh if anybody is having a doubt they c
an just speak or we can just because a lot of uh hands are raised but I don't know why uh are not giving the answer so maybe as you can continue uh we'll see later okay at the end we'll we'll take the outs hello sorry uh sorry I was just on uh I was on was I un mute throughout one second please adya can you hear me now yeah yeah yeah I can hear you now yeah yeah I'm sorry I I'm sorry that it went on mute and it went unnoticed so where did you hear me until where did you hear me uh where was the
last thing that you heard me I'll just uh I'm not able to um I think starting from starting from the document this document said yeah okay so uh this particular document was of vijayam coffee uh so uh what happened was that I I got to interact with this particular business owner when I was staying close to tagar and uh this is a coffee uh shop uh which is in U place called tagar in Chennai which is one of the most happening places of Chennai so what uh happened here is that they had 15 to 20 tea
shops but you know one shop which was crowded most of the time was this particular Vijay Ram's coffee and I was very curious as to why is this particular shop always crowded and uh uh this is a family run business which is uh uh which is you know there is a person called sentil and his father who ran ran this particular business his father was almost 80 years old so he would kind of sit only in the morning and it was sentil who ran the show now while there were many shops in and around uh what
happened all the time was that uh uh what happened all the time was that you know a lot of customers came to them and I was naturally curious to understand why was this the case and then typically in marketing we kind of find out that when you have when the customers are satisfied you have something called as a loyalty Dimension which gets added and because of which the behavior intention increases right so this particular person always made a point to interact with the customers so the customer
s actually liked that he had a kind of personal con connect with the customers he developed a kind of personal bonding took f back seriously did not kind of sell any tobacco or other related product the moment he kind of uh you know perceived that there was a shift in the market he started introducing something called as Coffee shots for 10 bucks which became instant hit in the market and this way he was very successful in managing customer acquisition and you know retention successfully so this
was a a write up which was inspired by him and then we have something called as faq's am I audible adya am I audible okay uh so then we have something called as FAQs which is the frequently asked questions so any any number of questions that you have uh you know we have kind of documented everything here as and when we have got from the students so what are the primary ways to get good grades in this particular project uh you know how to increase documents and decrease live sessions sample repo
rts what is plagerism what are the common causes of rejections you see these kind of graphs without justification will cause rejections and then we also have a shorter write up which is to explain what a Capstone project is which was again um you know a write up which was a tweet which I came across and based on that uh a write up was made by both of us and this kind of explains you as to what a Capstone project is and then finally you have something called as the insights from professional B2B
selling into Capstone project where I kind of said that the business could be both in B2B or b2c so you have to understand the characteristics of uh both markets both markets have different characteristics if you look at b2c they tend to be price sensitive which means that that as a price goes up the demand could actually fluctuate right but in B2B they are mostly price insensitive and there are various things that have said that how you should approach the data this is a session which I plan to
take uh two or three weeks from now because uh in the next coming weeks we would also get students who have successfully completed uh the projects they would come and they would share their experiences with you and from there you can also ask them different questions so this is what I wanted to cover today and if you have any questions um we would take it from here and adya it's over to you now yeah so basically are you able to listen now yeah no there is you haven't given there is no access to
mic and chat that's what I'm getting an email no no I think I think I have already given the chat option if chat is already on uh share the screen send chat message it's already on so I have all muted so I don't know no no if anybody will come up and they can open the mic and uh they can speak up then you'll come to know no I think there's something okay wait a minute see I see chat and mic permission is not given so you'll have to do this chat access is not there you have to go to the chat box
and just please wait we are just fixing this and now you check anyone of you can check are you able to get something no I don't think there is some no but I think options are already on that is what I'm checking here it is showing on I don't know why it is not would you send some other links in that case okay no maybe you can just do one thing you can post your questions in the uh uh streaming YouTube one right and then we can address the question you can share the link here ad if it is availab
le which link no again we have to Res we have to create a meeting link now so might be some students they are not having and it is not getting streamed again because it is connected with the same Link in YouTube Let Me you can check from the setting because you're also a host no I I don't see anything uh you might have to send a new link again in that case I don't know what's happening yeah now you can check no okay ask Q&A is now open are you able to now do it yes okay fine so I'm able to uh ca
n anybody speak open q okay uh raised hands uh vians are you able to kind of speak no we are all provided a viewer link no adya this is not working mic is inactive can you just create one more link and share stop streaming this and you can create a new link and share it uh in the group uh can we take more than two uh terms to complete yes you can take more than two terms also however what happens is that when the number I have created a link I'm stopping this one I created the link you can join
can can you just send it in the emails to them so that would be better yeah I'll send it I'll send it y
